I don't understand why people think we're created in God's image. The Quran tells you God doesn't have an image. He's something no eye has seen no mind can imagine . God is light. Light of heaven and earth. No image. And human are one of his creations.

the written word is an image of sound. It would be nigh impossible to formulate any perspective of the word "image" that wouldn't describe what writing is. The words of the Prophet (Peace be upon Him) were composed of breath (i.e. alive), not written. The Beloved is beyond ink and paper. Worshiping text might not be as pious as many seem to think--certainly slaughtering other children of the One because of a cartoon image (ostensibly because of their own worship of a written image or text--Nasruddin is rolling in his grave). The Beloved is not dead nor asleep, so look up from your book and seek Truth. It is bigger than words. How could It be otherwise? i hope this helps. Namaste.

People need to realize that Islam doesn't refer to something founded by Muhammad and it is an insult to those that believe that God sent messenger prophets to all peoples and exemplar prophets with enough of an influence through remains of scripture and other traditions to guide all civilization. The conservative who doesn't trust his interpretations of teachings and fishes around till he finds guidance either remains unguided or makes his mistakes and the ones of their guide.

True , Prophet Muhammad PBUH didn't established an Institutional Dogmatic religion which called Islam , but rather he was just continuing the survive of the ancient Gnostic wisdom of surrender to the divine exploring the divine within ( Islam itself in Arabic means surrender ) and already Islam predates the current so called religion of Islam as quran already states in too many verses that Abraham was a Muslim , Noah was a Muslim , Joseph was a Muslim , Jesus was Muslim etc but actually they never followed the modern day dogma of the institutional Islam they were Gnostics/ Arifin/Sufis who followed the way of surrender oneself to the Divine , even the bible record the final words of Jesus PBUH on the cross as " I surrender " ie he surrender his soul to be united with the divine , this is Islam which of course predates " Islam the institution " which means Yes Islam doesn't refer to something founded by prophet Muhammad PBUH , you are right , and all what you said already matches the quran and hadith of the authentic prophetic wisdom before the distortion/Tahrif made by The Umayyads may Allah forgive them , May Allah Bless you .
