I will always associate dear Glad with some of the happiest times of my childhood, singing along to her LP's with my Grandmother. Mrs Mills will always have a special place in my heart.

I can identify with that sentiment entirely Anthony. My Grandparents were also responsible for my introduction to Mrs.Mills when I was very young - the piano featuring heavily in the family. Thanks for the great comment.

It could only be Glad, love the simple backing from Mr Love and what a great choice of tunes

The whole LP is like this Al, carefully compiled by Norman Newell to compliment Glad's style.

Hi, Oldies Al! I absolutely love this music! It reminds me of my father and my uncle, who played in a similar style ....and I try to emulate it as well!

This is the style of her playing I prefer. Nice. Her version of 'I'm In The Mood For Love' is also a beauty. 😍
@IVORIESMAN2 жыл бұрын
…I’ve always thought of our Glad as having two distinctive styles - this LP demonstrates her reserved approach showing her superb arrangement abilities with trademark subtle chord formations and timing, and her ‘full throttle’ style can be heard in the ‘Chicago etc’ medley I uploaded a while back, equally impressive.
@shiralleehaggart722 жыл бұрын
Love this tune. I don't think I have this version by Winifred Atwell though also like the record player you played this on.

...Winnie also recorded party medleys but in her own style. - as for the player, these Hackers were known as the 'Rolls Royce of Record Players' back in the day.

MarcusTomatos Hi Mark. Yes I reckon our Glad would be right chuffed to be likened to one of her idols.

They don't compose, arrange, sing or play them like this anymore. Great melodies are like great paintings, if you do not preserve them, you lose them. Were it not for the wonder of KZbin and the diligence of Uploaders, we who are of an age to remember the tunes of yesteryear and know what to look for, would have virtually no music at all.

What a great sounding suit case phono. Who makes Hacker?
@IVORIESMAN4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ronald - Hacker was a British electrical company formed in 1959 by the brothers Hacker which ran successfully until 1977. Their aim was to produce high end equipment despite a high price tag. Consequently this and other Hacker models were considered to be amongst the best in the business. Today Hacker equipment is still regarded by enthusiasts as superior in build quality and performance.

@@IVORIESMAN THANKS How old is that one? Ironic that hacker has a completely different connotation.
@IVORIESMAN4 жыл бұрын
@@ronaldstockton3825 ...haha yes I've heard that comment on more than one occasion recently. This model (GP42 Gondolier) dates from around 1965.
