to those who want my advice, i'm sitting my exam too. 1. Don't stress - Quite ironic as I stress myself too but believe in yourself, once the exam is over you never have to think about English Literature ever again. 2. Memorize some paraphrases, sentence starters & extenders, even if you're stuck with your analysis you can extend your paragraph with these extenders. 3. Always attempt unseen poetry, regardless whether you understand it or not (the question already establishes the purpose of the poem). 4. Pre-write your introductions, this saves me time honestly. Obviously you actually aren't going to write the actual introduction for the question since you won't know the question, however ensure you make a structure that is suitable for anything you can write about. 5. Do not rely on predictions too much and obviously go through every poem whether it's in dept or just a bit a brief understanding of the poems is great. 6. ESSAY PLANS!! Pre-prepare some potential essay plans. 7. Ensure you know 3 quotes for each poem and characters/themes for your Modern Drama. 8. Practice writing some paragraphs too, this cools down your nerves and establishes you into the examination environment. 9. Read Grade 9 essays and analyse the areas where you can improve your essay in-order to obtain those top grades. - Good luck, you'll smash this.

@@prishak9451 Just ensure you have more than one interpretation of a quote you embed. So for example "half-formed ghost" [analysis + explanation] then proceed to add your 2nd analysis. @kaela3096

@@MrSallesTeachesEnglish absolutely. i can break them down into two sections. key: practice essay plans (learning these off is a bit of a cheat, but, in my opinion, should AQA repeat a question or very closely mimic it, that is through no fault of the student's and recreating a practice essay in the exam is perfectly acceptable); practice writing essays under timed conditions; mindmapping linked quotes/themes/characters for understanding; and (perhaps most crucially) rereading each text at least 2 or 3 times throughout the year & drawing my own conclusions about characters (annotations are optional but not necessary). non-essential but helpful: using flashcards and blurting techniques to memorise quotations; reading full mark sample essays (this is most helpful when a teacher, or, better yet, licensed examiner, has annotated the marking points); asking teachers/tutors for feedback on my own essays; reading actual mark schemes (AQA's are, unfortunately, far from clear, but this was VERY helpful to me for the unseen poetry section, because AQA tends to look for similar ideas from year to year, and especially because the theme(s) are often similar (i.e. as was this year, the natural vs human worlds, which had come up in past papers, and so reading these older mark schemes helped to orient towards what to look for when reading an unseen poem)); retelling the plot from memory; and picking out key events, which can be written about in any essay (for example, A1S5 from macbeth, or the ending of AIC).

I did paper 2 earlier today, It wasn't that hard, just rather long and strenuous. You've been rather helpful Mr Salles, not just for but also for many other students within my year that regularly use you for their revision. I imagine if you stopped making your videos, the average GCSE English grade across the UK would drop significantly. Keep up the good work sir.

thanks Mr Salles. Though, I'm still stuck with memorising quotations. I genuinely only want to keep on writing writer's intentions throughout. I did that with paper 1, and I feel like the lack of analysis with the quotes I dropped in. I don't know how I feel about English so far.

How would you use the ‘human condition’ in a sentence ?
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish 4 ай бұрын
Blake is writing about London in the 1790’s, but his call to action, that we should break free from our “mind forged manacles” is a timeless characteristic of the human condition. He doesn’t just call for a better society, but for each of us to pursue freedom of thought.
