Actually in general I've noticed even in his other videos that he doesn't seem to know much about a lot of the classics and things most people around the world would know about, be it movies or music or just stuff in general, because he doesn't get a lot of the pop cultural references; it's surprising he hasn't had that kind of exposure, but maybe he wasn't into any of it until recently.

Actually the What is love MV shows the girls who imagine themselves as the protagonists of all those romance movies, the scenes that appear are from different movies, it's not so much how inclusive love is, it's just how something fun for them that their own classmates play the role of the boys in them. La La Land is the only film from the last 5 years, the rest are roughly 20-40 years old … Personally, my parents weren't into film so I'd heard of many of these but not seen them. Only Pulp Fiction was included in my undergrad uni courses.
