Very much worth the time watching this and absorbing your insights. Apropos of something you mention about Bird, Ornette (in the liner notes to Soapsuds in 1978) says that when he first met Charlie Parker "I was playing and writing the things I play today" but that he wanted to master Bird's music (which of course he did at an absurd level). This must have been in the early 1950's, so Ornette was still very young and before even the Hillcrest Club era. So the experience of birthing gigantic music ideas at a young age and then developing them for a lifetime (or in BIrd's case, a career lasting barely more than a decade) is common between them. I get the same sense of Coleman Hawkins from listening to his very eariler recordings.
