I have been a seamstress tailor for 40 years. I was watching your tutorial on sewing paper. Very nice I might add! I have a quick tip for threading your needle.. When you get ready to thread your needle, always take a sharp pair of sissors and cut the thread not straight across but on a diagonal. Imagine You will be cutting a wedge .It should make threading.the needle oh so quickly!! Pass it on.. Lynda😊

LOL!!! You’re killing me! “I guess I shoukd preface this with I don’t know how to sew”. 🤣 That’s actually comforting because neither do I. And who better to show a non sewer how to do this sewing on paper than someone who’s successfully done this and also doesn’t know how to sew.

Thank you so much Liz! I was just given a new sewing machine as a gift, and I wish to use it in papercrafting but have been very intimidated. I haven't sewn in years and always found machines to be hard. I'm keeping at it though and hope it gets easier. I appreciate you showing how you see around corners; makes perfect sense seeing it but I hadn't thought to do it that way myself. I love how you sew your pages and hope to be able to do so as neatly as you. Thanks for doing this video!

This was great! I, too, don't know how to sew but I have a sewing machine that I now want to use for all that you have been showing on this tutorial. When I see you just whip those pieces together without pause it shows that if I just start in and practice that I'll get better with time. Hopefully someday I can be as confident as you are when you work. I really want to be able to do these projects and all the other ones I've seen others do. Thanks again for sharing this with us!

I am a professional seamstress and was so impressed with this tutorial. Sharing that you did not know how to sew before creating journals and how easy it really is with a little practice, hopefully will take the intimidation factor out of the picture for those who want to try. Wonderful video Mrs. Cog!!! Thank you for sharing! Many years ago I was taught a tip by our neighbor, who was a seamstress. If you slip a small piece of stiff white paper behind the eye of your machine needle, it is much easier to see exactly where to put your thread through the eye. I never had any trouble threading my machine after she showed me this simple trick!

Gosh! You are so lucky to have such an involved partner! Even if you joke it is so he can retire sooner! LOL That is still sweet! I took Home Economics in 8th grade as a required course. My parents went out and got a brand new Sears Kenmore sewing machine, with discs that offered a plethora of stitches just for the occasion! I still have it, too! I remember, fondly, my mother sitting over my left shoulder helping me to navigate this amazing sewing machine! The course was straight forward and factual and an awesome experience. But, momma, right there, with me, was the absolute best training any girl could ask for!!! Some memories just stand out better than others, I guess. Thank you!

Nice tips. I grew up sewing (daughter of a long-time sewing machine store manager), but I do very little of it now. Except for periodic OVER THE TOP Halloween costumes for my granddaughters . Great sewing! Thanks for sharing! Just a note...if you'll place the top thread to the side (R) and put a finger on it, it won't tangle. This has really been a good thing for me to know through the years. I sew more fabric than paper, but the paper-sewing has been fascinating to me as I'm getting started in making journals. Blessings!
