I’m a handpan player - well no, after seeing this - handpan owner myself. 😁 What a lot of people probably miss are the subtleties on display here. The player is very advanced and she makes it look easy. She gets tones from her instrument that aren‘t normally there (overtones). Try playing a melody and sing something else to it. That‘s difficult on any instrument. But on the handpan the notes aren‘t in a row. They‘re scattered all over the instrument, so you also need a „map“ of the pan to hit the right notes, with some on the bottom where you can‘t see what you‘re hitting. I could go on with this for a while, also mentioning the high production quality of this clip. But then I‘d rather just enjoy the good music and be inspired. 😊

Yes, you have all said. I play on guitar this song (which is not so easy)... She has respected it with her instrument which is not really made for that kind of music : it is the proof that when you are a real (a gifted one, I should add) musician, your instrument and the way you play it is just a clear extension of your soul, of your mind... Congrats.

Are they at least set up the same from instrument to instrument? In other words, can she pick up anyone's handpan and play it just as well?
@richardervins2 жыл бұрын
@@desertrat7634 No. With a high probability not. There are different manufacturers with different models. If you have to play a different model, you have to start all over again. It takes a while until your muscle memory is trained well enough to reproduce a song the same way as on the other instrument. It‘s fun nevertheless.

@PETERGREENDAY1004 жыл бұрын
@@Cypri666 this is not only about being creative, it requires coordination in order to play the right notes, it isn’t just a creative flow Being creative is not a problem for me, the problem is that I can’t express my creativity in a professional way like she does lol
@MumiHandpan4 жыл бұрын
@@PETERGREENDAY100 I feel you because I still struggle when it comes to making music. My approach to creative works changed a lot when I started to make handpans and I felt the pressure of people's trust on my shoulder. But even more when I realized that doing something isn't just about the "core" job. For example making handpans isn't just crafting and tuning the handpans, but it's also so much more. I think it's the same with music! My partner once told me "a project is like a rocket: you need all the pieces to make it work. If even just one is missing the rocket won't launch, or even worse it will launch but it will crash". I think a lot of us also grew up thinking about creative passions/jobs as something that has to come spontaneously, that you can't force because it has more to do with your inner talent than anything else and so pure that caring about anything else would corrupt us. I think this is a huge lie that makes us forget about the other pieces of the rocket that are missing! Also between being an enthusiast or a professional there are many shades, all of them valid. I think it's just all about finding your own shade!
@PETERGREENDAY1004 жыл бұрын
@@MumiHandpan thanks for your comment, it was so inspiring! The rocket metaphor was on point. I agree with you that music isn’t mere talent, and my first comment was about this. Your voice, the way you play the handpan, even the video editing, everything is part of the “rocket”. That’s why I said that it’s not a “left side brain job”, this is not just creativity, it’s also putting effort in every aspect of your work! I hope that my comment was clear, sorry for my poor english😖 and keep creating “rockets”, you’re amazing in doing that!!

@@MrValgard I make them! I'm the maker and tuner (and co-founder) of Elaia Handpans :) In general in most cases the people who are handpan tuners are handpan makers as well. There are very few professional tuners that aren't makers anymore, yet all of them have been making handpans in the past. Tuning is strictly related to knowing the rules of crafting the instrument (the process of giving the architecture to a shell is called shaping, that follows the layout and dimple processes). At the same time a good shaper most of the times has to know how to tune, otherwise he wouldn't grab the difference a hit of a hammer can bring into the tuning process! Unlike instruments like guitars or piano, the notes and the body of the instrument are the same thing. You shape the body of the instruments so you can obtain certain pitches and partials. It's unbelievable that anyone would "dislike" this video. An out-of-this-world voice and musical talent. I have shivers down my spine everytime I watch this video.

I don't find it unbelievable - I dislike almost all covers of Nothing else matters - HOWEVER! This freaking blows my mind how clean and how much her own she made this cover. Its amazing.

This song, (the original version), saved my life. I was in a bike accident and then hit by a car. I was in the hospital, and saw a light and heard the song being played. I followed the song because it's one of my favs. Then I woke up in a world of pain. The doctors said that they were losing me then I started to "Come back."

Truly amazing.. She makes playing the handpan seem so easy, which we know it isn't.. And then she starts singing, a pleasant surprise.. touching the soul...
