PRGR is a Japanese golf club company owned by Yokohama Tire. They make awesome forged clubs some of which are forged at Miura. I have an old set of Data 601 irons that I love. If this swing data analyzer is as high quality as their irons, I'm all in for one of these. Great review!👍

I have my PRGR a year now it does take a leveled tri-pod to give decent readings. It is not the end world really to set a £5 amazon tri-pod, My club practice area is up hill, which is a dilemma, still configuring for this 5% gradient. It will never be ignored when at the practice range. Overall brilliant unit. Garmin R10 may be competition from August 2021 forward.. Bushnell now too have linked up with GC monitors, viewing one the first in Europe on Wednesday, at an invention Golf event sponsored by them. Due out Oct 2021

I think it gives exact distance from the PRGR itself from however far behind it you place it. Most seemed to be off by 3 yards and that's how far back you hand PRGR on ground. That seems right on the money and seems more accurate than the $450 one.
@barebarekun161
@barebarekun161 4 жыл бұрын
Their manual mentioned a distance of 3.5 to 5 feet directly behind the club. It has to line up to where you aim as well or the readings won't be accurate.

Just got mine the other day. Tried it indoors (for golf), set up in the prescribed position using the included batteries (unit was displaying full battery). Tried 7 & 4 irons and got very low numbers. Changed to new batteries and took it to the range. Only had a handful of balls to hit, so used 7 iron only. Got results I'd consider much more realistic. Club speed mid to high 80's, ball speed around 115 and carry average high 160's. Indoors, I had to blister one to get a carry of 150 or more and swing & ball speeds were much lower also. I have yet to try it indoors again, but will soon. The difference is either the batteries, the setup or the indoor/outdoor factor. Regardless, I can't see why indoor/outdoor should be a factor on clubhead speed. My net was set up about 8 feet in front of the ball. I hope I don't need much more than that to get accurate readings. Any tips?

Thanks for showing these side by side! The nice things you get with the SC300 doppler monitor are a barometric pressure calibration, plus ball spin, ball speed, launch angle and club loft specifics (you specify lofts at set up) that factor into the data it reports. I don't think the PRGR doppler monitor measures/factors any of those variables...PRGR simply calculates an estimated carry/total distance from a static loft/launch/spin database average based on the club you enter (again, lofts are averaged here, not specific to your bag) on the two factors it does measure -- clubhead speed and ball speed (without a barometer (temperature/altitude)). The great advantage of the PRGR is that you don't have to hit a ball to get clubhead speed, so it's one of the best bang for the buck options for speedstick training feedback without a ball. I think the SC300 is much more accurate but it's best to use it on the course with a real ball vs beat up/limited flight range balls. PRGR is probably a little better on the range since its metrics are more static/averaged.

A little incomplete. I would have tried to elevate the monitor a foot or two to see if it would pick up the wedges better. Since those are your scoring clubs, it would be critical to be able to dial in some in between yardages.

I finally got my hands on one of these. I traded It for a rangefinder. So I roughly paid 100 dollars for it. It is amazing. So much fun, no phone needed, highly accurate. The only draw back is it won't pick up my Sandwedge and the woods is just a little off. I believe it maybe because it does not measure rpms, but I was impressed. Use a tri pod if you are having trouble getting readings, especially for a driver.

Thanks Mr SGG. I retired at the beginning of December last and I'm picking up My clubs again after a 25 year layoff (why on earth did I do that ?). Currently in the UK our weather makes playing on course a miserable experience. So, My routine is a visit to the range and hitting 100 shots. Something simple and affordable like this is just what I'm looking for. Other Launch Monitor units seem to be as expensive as Annual Club Membership, so clearly NOT an option for an Average Hacker like Me. Congratulations for showing the units failings, somehow other reviewers miss this out. It doesn't seem like a deal breaker to Me, because the PRGR is still giving more feedback than simply eyeballing the shot. BTW I subscribed.

Interesting product. I have struggled with a decision to buy one of these. I just don’t see a practical use. On the course I have several other indicators for distances including a range finder. On the range this doesn’t really help because I am using range balls, so distances are off from the premium ball I play. Can’t use it to hit into a net because the radar has to track the ball flight.... The price point is great, just can’t find a reason for it. Thanks for the review.

Numeric display devices have good uses for personal, non-commercial use. No spin, no point. Also not sure if you're being very accurate. On the last one at the cart path for example said 260 and you called it on 270. The shot before it was 250. If you're saying this one is on the money, does it mean the swing caddie is not as good? You also have that a really good review, if I remeber correctly. Sure, it seems really good for swing speed, doesn't match the carry and is unreliable for about 30%. How about comparing to the more mobile swing caddie, I think its the 200? If also measures the same details, same size and similar price range.

Just got the Japanese model HS-120 red body measures in Meters per second instead of MPH,pretty cool little device it does pick up speed and is pretty accurate and will give you more data for reference and gauging your game progress and just over a $100 I paid for it,it's a steal. Those PRGR demo guys can't be that naive,they don't know that they actually sold these elsewhere and told me "it's not for sale" I have to import the thing from Japan,you have one hell of a product but don't want to sell it here,I guess they're too focused on selling their new drivers.

I usually love your content but i have to be critical with this one. First, Being accurate on carry distances will be player specific. It is not measuring launch and spin therefore it just uses a stock programmed number. Obviously different players launch and spin differently. Second this seems to be almost exactly like the sc100. Ball speed, swing speed and estimated carry. I just bought one brand new on rock bottom golf for 150 and it has a remote(which actually comes in handy). It also doesn't have problems picking up wedges. Id tske that all day long over this.

I just purchased my PRGR and I received the newest model (HS-130a) vs. the one shown in this video (HS-120a). The HS-130a displays four data elements (club speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry or total distance). After a few sessions with the HS-130a I can say the radar looks to have been improved for lofted wedges. I haven’t had any misreads on my full wedge shots. The distance accuracy seems very good too. My main use is for over-speed training. No complaints on the launch data provided.

A more accurate test would be to hit balls with each unit individually, then compare numbers. There is likely some interference caused by having both units side by side and running at the same time.
@anthonygovantes2456
@anthonygovantes2456 4 жыл бұрын
How would that be more accurate? Without using the same ball and measuring from the same swing the results could never be comparable. I've hit range balls that fly anywhere from 100-250 yards from a driver due to how beat up they are. If you hit enough balls with the radars side by side, you'll see a trend forming that product 'a' is always 5 yards/ short or long; but it's consistantly 5 yards short/long. Consistancy is king, in golf.

@@anthonygovantes2456 The numbers from both monitors are suspect when they are side by side. There is definitely interference from the doppler radars on each unit when they are right next to each other and measuring at the same time.

How about you go to a flat level area and have someone go out and mark the landing area and then you shoot them with your rangefinder so you could do some actual measurement that makes sense.

Question for Mr Shortgame. Recently purchased the PRGR and seems to work well. My question is do you know what they have the lofts set at for the irons? I play an old set of blades and am afraid it will be giving me bad info based on newer iron lofts. Can’t seem to find this info anywhere. Thanks and love your videos!

@@bl6369 I actually just sold it on eBay. I think it has a hard time picking up the more lofted clubs like 8,9,wedges. I’m choosing to go with the arccos system because that will work better for me!

@@charlier3189 thanks buddy. I've done a lot of reviewing and it just seems to inconsistent. Who wants inconsistent data? That's probably even more harmful than no data. Also my driving range has a trackman setup and I'll just go there when I need numbers.

Thanks for the video. I'm curious about your particular swing speeds. Are you using the same swing for all of the clubs, attributing the difference in speed to the difference in the length of the clubs, or are you swinging harder with the longer clubs? I ask because I tend to swing harder with longer clubs, increasing inconsistency. But if you're using the same swing and you can measure the difference in club head speed that would be valuable feedback to get. Keep it the same to keep it consistent (tm). Looking forward to the next one.

I think you will swing faster with lighter shafted clubs. For instance, if you have a 60grm composite shaft in your driver, it will swing faster than say a DG R300 steel shaft in your irons.

Looking to get a LM and will look into getting it from one of your links to help your channel. What I wanted to know is out of the PRGR, SC300 or MEVO, which one would you recommend? Looking to get this for my son who is starting out but he doesn’t have a fast swing speed so I don’t know if it’s the height of the ball or the slower swing speed that would be the problem? I know it’s on the wedges for most of these but is that based on the slower swing speed or the height the ball gets up? If it’s height and I wanted to use it, I would have a problem as I have a very naturally high ball flight (Jason Day type). Also wanted to try and dial in my wedges for shorter shots but I don’t think any of these are good for that (30-70 yards).

Thanks for the review. I am interested in your opinion on how important would knowing launch angle while trying to dial in your swing is. I have so many reviews and unless you spend over $10k the launch and some of the other advanced options are not that accurate. So if there are not that accurate does it definite you to see those numbers? Looking to make a purchase asap!

@@MrShortGame I bought it and just returned it and of course I am out the shipping cost both ways. It is horrible( it was saying my 6I was going 130 I carry my 6I 190 yrds) hitting into net and hardly records wedge even in a open field. Out 30 shots with a 54 shots around 50 yards it recorded 4 distances and they were off 7-10 yards after shooting them with a laser.

Great vid, Unfortunately I have not had much luck with any off the shelf launch monitor, I had the SC100 and the SC200 and both were total garbage 100 yd shot would show 80 one shot and 120 the next when both balls were 5' apart on the range. Over and over again, perhaps someone will come up with an accurate one but until then I will pay to hit where they uses GC quad or trackman to get my #s.

trpe71 If you haven’t tried the Mevo you might look into that unit. Swing speed is almost identical to Trackman and carry distance is MUCH more accurate than the SC100, Sc200 or SC300 (which are all so overinflated they are a joke). I don’t really trust spin or club head speed too much with the Mevo but in my opinion the best option of affordable launch monitors I’ve tried.
