When faced with the 80yd shot a lot of times I'll decide to play it safe and layup to something like 35yds. Sometimes I'll decide to skull it 160yds over the green. Rarely do I decide to hit on the green.

I watched this vid , Top 5 Tips for the 80 Yard Golf Shot, about 6 months ago. I've been practicing it ever since, and it literally "turned my game around". I've found I have this shot about 6 or 7 times a round. I'm now confident with it. I am saving 4 or 5 shots a round!! Thanks MSG!!

This is one of the most helpful golf videos I have ever watched. Perfect this simple swing- you can use it on every single club in your bag. It will not maximize distance, but if you master this shot, you can be hitting greens from 150-180 yards with confidence. Take a little more club, simple 60% controlled swing- beautiful. Thank you Matt!!!

I really like your approach to the game and teaching. You're upbeat, encouraging and have a sense of humor. I love the advice in this video. HOWEVER, a challenge we all have is feel vs real. You make a thoughtful and deliberate effort to show the short length of swing necessary for this shot. You demonstrate where your hands should NOT be (high) compared to where they should be (about waist high) with more club. But if you look at your actual swing when you demonstrated the shot, you, like most of us, you went well beyond the practice swing. Maybe 3/4 for you, but it was easily a full swing for most players. I wish I could post a screenshot of the two different positions to show the difference. Just some constructive criticism. I'd love to see a follow up video where you challenge yourself to really hit that abbreviated swing. I'm positive you can do it. That in and of itself is a great lesson for most golfers. Cheers!

Practised this for the first time today, work to be done, but went very well. Instant solid feel when I got it right. I even went up to a 9 iron for 100 yards. I think this is the way to go, crazy trying to hit full wedges, too easy to lose control. Really like this one, many thanks

Great tips Matt. I used your tips yesterday at a challenging (6083, 70.4/133) golf course that I played for the first time. I was successful on at lease 80% of my approach shots that saved me a lot of strokes. Thank you so much for your excellent, down to earth, instruction!
@larryd43525 жыл бұрын
I use this shot a whole lot...as I have a bad left knee. Most of my iron shots are hit this way...it helps me make good contact with the ball without putting a lot of stress on my left side. I may use an 8 iron from 120 yards...but I hit it low, under the wind we always seem to deal with in central Texas...and accurate. From inside 100 yards, I use my Gap Wedge...or even my 9 iron if I am in the rough, which I call my "Baby 9 iron" shot. It's low, accurate, and over the years it's become one of my money making shots! Great advice...people...go practice it on the range...you'll save shots using this technique...and find yourself putting for birdies more often!!
