I say this as a Canadian, who previously did a lot of indoor winter practice - never hit your short irons and wedges, besides a quick warmup, off of mats - it will destroy your game when you return to real grass - you will quickly develop a lazy picking style for your short irons off mats, that will result in brutal blades and chunks off real grass when spring returns. My rule of thumb now is only 6/5/4 irons to work on your swing mechanics, 3-woods off the matt, and tee'd-up Drivers.

Sure, if you want to pay $500. I've got a 5×4 GoSports Pro mat for $130. I have used it for over a year, and no visible signs of wear. I have hit 1000's of balls, and haven't even rotated it. No wrist or elbow pain, either.
