You asked for opinions on the Shark Byte. I have three toothpick builds that differ only in the video system. One with naked Vista at 200mW, one with a tiny 400mW Eachine analog VTx, and one with the Shark Byte at 200mW. The Vista and analog quads fly around the outside of my house fine. The Shark Byte video disintegrates into unflyable snow as soon as I go behind the house. I'm going to replace the board with a Vista.

@@yuvalyosef I would not consider them to be in the same class. This one weighs as much with battery as the Phantom without ;-) Not saying that the phantom isn't a good copter. For me it is important to be able to fly as many copters as I can on the same type of battery, this way I don't need to bring so many quads to a session - I always bring 2 - sometimes 3 quads per battery type. My main batteries are 2S 450mAh. The phantom is 4S, so i would at least need another copter that takes 4S, otherwise I am running the risk of having a bunch of 4S batteries that I have to discharge at home, because I crashed my only quad that I can use them on.

I wanted it to be as light and quiet as possible, and I think 2S is plenty. 2S batteries also tend to be lighter than the equivalent 3S batteries. I have a 4-inch DJI drone that is super powerful, but it is too dangerous and noisy to fly in my backyard and neighborhood. That's where the light Babytooth platform opens up opportunities for me. If I build it like a TP3, then I'm sure it would fly great, but it would be less unique for me. Good question!

I've just ordered a Phantom HD with amax 1303 motors. I wonder if I can use just the bottom plate and mount the battery on the bottom to get closer to this weight. @benmast3r8653 жыл бұрын
I want to build something similar with a Nebula Pro and still as light as possible. I'm struggling if 2S or 3S is the right way forward. 2S saves weight an therefore makes the drone lighter (which is important to have it as silent as possible). On the other hand I want to have the acceleration feeling that I'm used to from my other normal freestyle quads. But it would obviously add weight due to the added cell (450mah is minimum, 300-350 don't work very well imho). This would then make the drone more noisy again.
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
If you raise the voltage and lower the KV in proportion, then it doesn't really change the speed. So, if you can control the 2S/3S choice and you control the KV choice, then speed isn't the way you want to think about it. The difference is that a higher voltage drone will be able to deliver the same power with less current and thus less voltage sag. If you want to fly in a small yard then you're not going to be using a lot of high throttle and the sag of 2S probably won't be a problem at all. In that case, 2S is perfect! If you like to fly in larger spaces and you like to rip around on high throttle a lot, then 3S will help you do that without your battery voltage sagging as much. Also, the weight difference will matter less in those larger spaces. Make sense? P.S. I agree that there aren't many good 3S batteries on the market that are smaller than 450mah.

@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
Good eye! It might be improved through tuning. I haven't tried yet. The stutters only happen when dropping into dirty air at very low RPMs. The motors have plenty of power at higher RPMs but maybe they struggle to get started. A slightly higher idle speed will probably help. I'll experiment more when I have time.

Great build, I really want to get involved with the little baby toothpicks as well. They look so fun to fly. I found in my FPV career, the R Line Lipos give the most raw full power. Once they get below their nominal voltage though they will sag hard on you, but its full power till the last second. I found the GNB lipos like cruising more. The r-line packs are also very light and small in comparison to their Mah rating. Best part about the Tattu range for me has been the durability. Only lipos that survive my crashes.

Those weigh a tremendous amount more than his entire quad plus batteries, I don't think that would be a good pairing. At that point like you hinted it's going to be a different build with different motors, bigger props, bigger frame. Also those go way lower running voltage which may not play nicely with the camera since it will be closer to 5v rather than 6+v at the low ends.

I am loving this build! it is surprisingly fast! How much power will the naked vista take? can we go up to 1,000mw in a coolish climate 60 degrees or so?
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
The vista is powered directly from the battery so it should have all the current it needs. I have not tried the high power mode on this drone however. It might work in a cold climate but the risk of overheating would be much higher.

Never seen moss grow on asphalt like that. I have seen where there is maybe a layer of dirt an inch thick and some grows but nothing so evenly distributed. After looking this up I see "moss season" is a thing in WA. Weird.
@MrShutterBug2 жыл бұрын
Haha! The ground is wet most of the year. Moss is definitely a thing.

nice build! You can save another grame or so by going with a linear whip antenna. You wont notice much of a difference flying proximity with DJI.

Pretty awesome... been waiting to get some of those motors.. they seep to sell out fast.. Also where do you live.. Looks like the PNW..

incredible video keep it up😊❤. i wanted to build this toothpick but i have the dji fpv controller, does it work with the caddx vista(like the dji air unit)? and if not then what should i use?
@MrShutterBug2 жыл бұрын
I just put this drone up for sale on FB Marketplace, if you're interested: facebook.com/marketplace/item/670413367777353 Since it has the Caddx Vista, it should work with the DJI controller. I don't have the DJI controller, so I added a Crossfire receiver to mine. Switching to the DJI controller might be as simple as a Betaflight setting, but maybe the wiring would have to change? I'm not sure about that, but I could look into it if you're interested.
@arsamyazdanian71232 жыл бұрын
@@MrShutterBug thank you so much❤️ i'll definitely check out the facebook marketplace and no need to research for the wiring i'll do it. thank you very much for your time and keep making great content😊

Love this build! Also I saw someone swapping battery connectors from XT30 to Betafpv's BT 2.0 connectors on 2s. Not sure how many amps you draw, but 9-15a might be enough. Also, would nebula pro camera fit? I'm migrating my dji cams to nebula pros.
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
Nebula Pro would make this build a lot nicer, but no, it would not fit in this particular canopy.
@explodingevo3 жыл бұрын
@@MrShutterBug how long are those stack screws? I got everything but need longer screws apparently :(
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
@@explodingevo Mine are M2x20 (20mm length). Using that length requires pretty small gaps between boards, which are spaced by nylon nuts. Good luck!

@@MrShutterBug I got it done this afternoon. It's a little heavier at 61g but I'm using tracer with dual antenna. I will probably move it to crossfire and chop off that little mount like you did. Holy crap though, I just did a couple preliminary test flights and I can see it's a powerhouse omg I love it. I messaged Phoenix 3d about a version of that canopy supporting the nebula pro, hopefully the quote isn't too high.

So if I'm using the DJI controller would I need to put crossfire in? Also, could I even use crossfire with the DJI remote? I'm new to this and never quit understood this
@MrShutterBug2 жыл бұрын
I had to add a receiver to my drone because I do not have the DJI remote. If I had the DJI remote, then I would not need a separate receiver because the DJI receiver can control the drone through the Vista Air Unit. Crossfire is a different protocol from DJI, so you cannot control a Crossfire drone using the DJI remote.

This canopy is not on thingiverse but you can buy it. Link in the description. However, there are lots of other canopies that you can print.

Amazing, just ordered everything for this build. Any issues with the vista overheating?
@MrShutterBug3 жыл бұрын
No issues so far, but I do not live in a hot climate. For me, the biggest thing is that I have to be careful about heat while it is plugged in on the bench. I blow a fan on the drone any time I have to do that, just in case.

This is the nano Holy Grail for FPV. Too bad the image quality still falls short. Would love to see a naked DJI camera or Nano Pro (naked?) as well.👍
