I support a 25 year old Ugandan girl who has an orphanage there and takes care of 10 children. She was originally a child of the streets who has been taking care of kids since she was 10. I talk to her daily via what’s app and know all the kids. 150$ a month can pay their rent. It’s sad how government corrupt and impoverished conditions ruin a beautiful continent and it’s people.

I have never seen such a powerful emotional reaction to this song, but, I GET IT! There is something about that chorus that just gets the feels all up in a fervor! There's what I call a "cry" factor, not just cos that's how it makes some listeners feel and react, but it's how the vocals, or even the occasional guitar solo or sex solo sounds. Greta reaction! I love to see anybody express such an emotive response to music. The album this song is from, (Toto IV, 1983) is an absolute must-have for any music collection. Just about every song from start to finish is great : Rosanna, We Made It Before, Lovers In The Night, Afraid Of Love, Make Believe, It's Feeling, Waiting For Your Love. Most are more upbeat and rockin, but It's A Feeling is real chill and mellow. Other notable hits include Georgy Porgy, and Hold The Line (from Toto I, 1978).

David Paich went to Catholic school as a child and regularly heard talk about missionaries to Africa - how they would bless the land, people, animals and nature (the rains). He also heard of how the church women would go visit the lonely missionaries (“she’s coming in, 12:30 flight”).

Beautiful reaction Blessing. Africa has 3 distinct keyboard parts. The intro starts with a Yamaha CS80 using the brass setting. The 2nd is a Yamaha GS1. This is used on the Kalimba setting heard throughout the song and was overdubbed 6 times, Lastly the solo is played on a Yamaha CP 40 using the flute setting. In a word...Brilliant. Great reaction video! I cried with you ;) This song is simply phenomenal. Greetings from a 50+
This song always touches the heart and emotions, even for people who have no ties to Africa. Now, as to why Toto wrote this song, I'm not exactly sure, but in the early 80s, there was a lot of attention drawn to Africa both politically and in the entertainment arena. There were several movies that were about Africa, in some form or fashion, so maybe Toto just kinda jumped on the bandwagon because of that, I don't know, but that explanation makes as much sense as any. Some of the movies were "The Gods Must Be Crazy" (1980) and comedy, but with a serious subplot, which apparently spawned 4 more movies, 3 of which i was not even aware of. "Sheena" (1984) starring Tanya Roberts. "Out of Africa" (1985). "Baby: Secret of the Lost Legend" (1985) starring William Katt and Sean Young about a baby Brontosaurus in the sub-Saharan Rain Forest. It was kind of a fun time back then with all these African-centric movies that came out that showed the beauty of the continent.
