Quite possibly, the most underrated and under appreciated ballplayer in the history of the game. He played in the Midwest during the era of Mays, Mantle and Aaron and probably never received his just due. This guy was an absolute stud . . tough minded and fearless . . and his career statistics rate right up there with the best of the best. He was the childhood hero of tens of thousands of Red's fans . . including me.

@@patrickgray5633 How many outfielders did they pick ? The best 5 outfielders of all time are Ruth, Mays, Aaron, Cobb, tie between (Robinson, Musical, Clemente, Speaker, and a couple of others). Lol, it's all subjective.......but there's no way on earth that Pete Rose is a better baseball player than Clemente.....Higher average, more homeruns, more gold gloves.

I think Frank Robinson might be the most underrated ballplayer in history. As tough as they came, he was hard as nails on the field. As complete a player as there's ever been, including Willie Mays. The heart of those great Oriole teams along with Brooks. Pete Rose got himself in trouble in Cincinnati for associating with black players, mainly Frank. To his credit, he didn't care and continued to go out to dinner and hang with his guys anyway. I've always respected Pete for that.

I've read about the 1971 Oriole tour of Japan. THE CHRYSANTHEMUM AND THE BAT by Robert Whiting. The Japanese were angry they couldn't play the Pirates, "Why did we have to play the #2 USA team?" Suffice to say, the Japanese grossly underestimated a team that could have won 3 straight World Series Championships. Cuellar's screwball was un hittable. I think the final series tally was 14-2? for the Orioles vs. Japan All-Stars and the Tokyo Giants, in the middle of 9 straight JL Championships. The Orioles dynasty of 1966-1971 maybe played their best baseball in November 1971 in Japan.
