Today we're doing weird stuff with schnapps. And I'm also talking about why not all alcohols are created equal in your solvent solution for a clear melt and pour base. Let's have some fun!

Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I love the idea of the peppermint in this 😍! Peppermint is always my biggest seller at Christmas and alcohol soaps always sell out. So combining the two winner winner all the way around 👏! Keep on going with the experiments Chantine I love when you do these kind of things 😀! Love you 😍 💙 ❤️ 😘 ♥️ 💜 😍!

Did I miss the crystal clear recipe day? I'm in a pinch with supplier not shipping my order, but a customer placing my first wholesale order 😳 Chantine to the rescue once again. I've got 99.9+% isopropyl and 40% by volume vodka made from organic grapes for my alcohols on hand. Skimming the comments for further advice. But between these two videos I'm feeling pretty confident and extremely grateful.

This one kinda makes me want to make it for a winter themed soap, add some cute embeds or something. But yes, I def need to try your true recipe version to have on hand for other projects. Making from soap paste is intriguing too though, as I plan to keep that on hand. So for that I'd just melt my paste down and add the sugar solution and alcohol, correct? After checking my paste recipe to make sure I've got clear oils already in it. I like to keep things consolidated, so having one paste on hand for many applications would be great!

You accomplished a natural ombre! From white to pseudo-clear! Also peppermint scented soap is heaven to me... So with the sugar, could you use sugar substitutes like Splenda? If they can be cooked into a simple syrup like normal sugar? So alcohol substitues aren't a great idea for clear but what about water substitutes? Would using a (white) wine, lighter colored beer, cider, white claw, aloe, etc. for the lye solution have a significant impact on the color? What about subbing in a portion of the sugar solution water with one of those? This has me all kinds of curious!

Do you think 99% isopropyl alcohol would work better than a liquor such as distilled vodka or everclear; or would it hinder the bubble even though it would be clear?

@@MrsSoapAndClay right, I did make some whipped sugar soap scrub the other day. I was looking for clarification on how to make melt and pour out of soap paste. I haven’t made melt and pour before so I only know the process based on the full instructions but I can’t seem to wrap my head around how to go from soap paste to melt and pour. Does that makes sense?

What do you think will happen if you try to use a fatty alcohol to make soap? Will it be clear? Will it saponify?
@emerencespringer

What is a fatty alcohol? Versus a not fatty one. oOoOO I have to know more because the gears are turning ...
@MrsSoapAndClay
@MrsSoapAndClay 2 жыл бұрын
So you can for sure play around with other fatty alcohols such as cetyl or cetearyl in place of the stearic, and it will saponify and remain clear. As a primary ingredient in the solvent, however, I’m not sure it would. Clarity aside, it would saponify, but I think it would decrease the lather? Sounds like a fun test.
