#meltandpourbase #recipeday #46
Today we are making a melt and pour base from scratch! This is an easy peasy recipe with easy to source ingredients and a great end product suitable for all skin types. It's a good way to dip your toe into the melt and pour bases world, which is necessary right now, given the increase in prices for pre-made bases these days.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

when making liquid soap, the KOH can be dissolved in glycerin...you can probably add it at any time...and I think it may induce the reaction to happen quicker.

Both types have their place! And let me tell you, from experience... using boxed cakes is less expensive and takes up less space. And one can always change the flavor of a boxed cake by using butter vs. oil or adding almond emulsion... or adding vanilla... Just sayin. ; ) There's also a place for M&P as well as CP or HP.

Mrs Soap & clay : - Can i make the MP base using any other CP recipes (with no adding ingredients like clay, flower, milk) and add glycerin? - I dont have a crocpot, can i use a electric temperature-controlable cooktop? - Can the HP be substituted by a CP soap- after 1 day of curing and we cut it to pieces, then cook with Glycerin? So, on the question of “Can any CP recipe be made into a glycerin m&p base,” can it, as long as you’ve got a boatload of castor oil in said recipe? My basic CP recipe is lard, coconut, olive, cocoa, canola, a little something like hemp or avocado oil, plus castor oil. I see most M&P bases also add beeswax. So if I pump up the castor %, add some beeswax and hot process it, I just need to add a 75-100% glycerin at the end to make it M&P?
@MrsSoapAndClay

Hi, What kind of tea are you drinking? If it is black tea, it is a diuretic. It will just go through you and you will have lots of trips to the toilet. You may be lacking in minerals. I drink a glass of water with an electrolyte tablet and I don’t get thirsty and it has mineral salts, it rehydrates you. I have heard of skinny teas. They don’t work and are not healthy.

@@MrsSoapAndClay Sounds like you have picked a healthy herbal tea. Dandelion detoxes the liver, Ginger and Ginseng are great too. Orange peel, being bitter also helps with detoxing the liver. I drink a ginger, ginseng and lemon tea from M&S. If you are trying to lower your blood sugar, try eating blueberries and sour cherries as they contain anthrocyanins that helps lower your blood sugar. Apple cider vinegar, about a teaspoon in a large glass of water is also a good cleanser and is good for your stomach. Lemon juice in a warm glass of water also cleanses and is an age old remedy.

Others add sorbitol as well. Can we please have a video that just explains all this. i truly want to try this. Why would someone want this type over cp? Like how do you market it against your cp soaps?

Some people just genuinely prefer glycerin soaps over cold process. I’ve found that those with oily skin gravitate to it.

Help me understand...so melt n pour is basically glycerin soap? As a child I remember glycerin soap being clear, and yes, very drying. Or is clear glycerin soap a whole different thing? Also, when would someone not accustomed to melt n pour use it? Would it be a stand alone soap? Or more for within soap designs, etc? I promise I'm not melt n pour prejudice. I started with CP, but want to learn and understand ALL the processes!

Melt and pour is glycerin soap, whether clear or not. And it can definitely be drying, but it doesn’t have to be!

@@MrsSoapAndClay , So why would we melt and repour it? Isn't it already soap after what you showed us? Seriously, I'm trying here! LOL!

@@paulalynrider4009 I think what she is trying to tell us is that the melt and pour that are made already are very dry and she is just showing us that it does not have to be so she adds softness to the melt and pour process. That way after the saponification it will feel very soft to your skin did I explained it right I hope that makes sense.
