That's what I have : 06 LL Bean :) LOVE the boxy-wagon-y style so much. Got 65 profile A/T tires and it's the perfect beater. Not ALL is perfect but I really like it., Need to replace the fuel filler neck soon, hoping it would fix "very small" evap leak" code.

Just coming up on 69,000 miles on my 2007 Legacy wagon (non-Outback, last of its breed) and now feel like a profligate driver. I had the timing belt replace at 55k, which was just shy of 13 years, when I realized I was driving on borrowed time and those things never break at a convenient time!

Some times it doesn’t matter the mileage or age. I’ve seen 2013 Subarus with 90k and need a ton of work. And 2000 Subarus with 200k+ that don’t need anything. It’s a matter of maintenance per age and miles.

I got you beat, bought a 2008 ll bean forester with 13,000 miles. The car was bought to take a ladies dogs to the vet, and Krystals on Friday. Garage kept, never driven in the rain, so pretty special. Tires and everything were original. Tires replaced, oil changed, not sure about what should be addressed. Engine looks brand new. Time capsule for sure, any thoughts would be appreciated.

The dogs must of been sick often, unless the vet was far away🤔. If the car has no mechanical receipts, u might need to change the coolant & the brake fluid. Hopefully the spark plugs aren't seized (hard to remove) from age. Get the battery tested also.

Needs brakes and rotors, likely replace struts. Front end looks good. Not too much rust being a Pennsylvania car. All the pulley fronts are extremely rusted. Going to replace all of the soon. May do the water pump too. I'm a self taught mechanic. Now 63 I'm learning a ton of great information from you. Thanks !

I have 170k on my '15 Impreza and has mostly been problem free, sans the dealer never reminding me to do the spark plugs and #1 ate the electrodes and copper core of the spark. Needless to say, the rocker arm on the intake valve didn't like having something stuck in the valve and it popped off, the valve dropped, and then... well, I guess you can put two and two together. Fun little fact FB20B engines are super cheap. It only cost $4k for a 45k engine and the labor to swap it, plus a new flywheel and clutch. Lesson learned. I'm taking over the maintenance for the things I can do, which includes the plugs.

I bought my 2005 Forester 2.5X two years ago with 70,000 miles. I paid $800, but I’ve put more money into her than I should’ve. I’ve so far put in a new: -exhaust system, from header to tailpipe (rusted out, and re-welded poorly by previous owners). -horn (rusted, and sounded hilarious). -alternator (died suddenly). -spark plugs. -PS/Alt/AC belts. -Windshield (was cracked). -Rear view mirror (was missing). -Both front window stabilizers and weatherstripping (fabric had dried and flaked off, or the metal had rusted, scratching the windows). -Oxygen sensor (twice, from P402 codes). -Battery. -Gear shift cable (rusted out). -Front control arms (still under recall, dealership replaced them for free!). -Various bulbs; (dash and exterior). -Front rotors. -Front and rear brake pads. -Front callipers. -Rear brake springs. -PCV valve. When I have the money I’m getting the original Japanese timing belt replacement kit, with water pump, as well as new thermostat and related hoses, and new rad fluid. Also need to replace the rear wheel bearings. All the labour was free (done myself). The hardest part was replacing the tiny bulbs in the dash board and clock, and in the gear shift display.

Awesome find. Stick shift too, oh man so good. The timing belt does age, i mean look at those Pilot Exaltos, they look brand new, but look closely and you see the dry rot and those tires are from 2012. The T-belt is from 2006 so you can imagine it had to go to.

Nice vid! Awesome to find one in that condition. I am looking to buy one in The Netherlands and we only have 2.0 litre engines. Do you have an opinion on those engines specifically? I have driven one recently with 200k kilometres on it which was bone dry everywhere but there were issues putting me off. Like a rev counter that did not work, sunroof that did not work, ugly resprayed wheels and a failing winshield pump.

Best design ever. Rav4 cargo space in a Crosstrek footprint with car-like handling, good ground clearance, 2500 lb towing, easy reach to a Thule cargo pod, good power, fantastic visibility, excellent ergonomics and simple rugged design. Maybe a little too much road noise. If the head gaskets were multi-layer steel in the first place, the 06-08 Foresters would have zero flies on them. Replace the originals with MLS gaskets when you do the timing belt, and you're good to go for another 100K.

I had a 2007 Forester and I loved it. Drove it all over the country for work. Had to sell it because of rust. I now have a 2012. It too suffers from extreme rust everywhere except the body, frame is rusty, every nut and bot is rusty, front of all the pulleys are rusty. So I'm going to replace all the pulleys, water pump, suspension bits and pieces, rotors and calipers. Going to clean the rust of everything. Use a good rust proof paint. Most of the rust is not deeply embedded. Am I on the right track ? Any suggestions ?

@@vermili0n I'd say manual if you can find one, but any turbo Subaru from the era is probably due for some maintenance. I needed to replace just about every PCV hose and Small coolant hose on my WRX just about every time I worked on it. It probably would have cost $100s to have a pro do it, so just be prepared for a bit more maintenance than another older Subaru.

Being a tow behind the miles on the rest of the drive line could be super high, I wouldn't really call this a low mile vehicle. I purchased a Jeep that was a tow behind and also had low miles. Everything but the engine still had all the high mileage issues (wheel bearings, diff bearings, shocks, ujoints, bushings, etc). I wouldn't pay a premium for that for sure.

I have the exact same model with a manual tranny too. Mines gray. Bought it new17 yrs ago. I have 104,400 miles. I change the oil every 3000k and keep up with the coolant changes more than you have too. Hopefully I won't get the dreaded HG problem. I do have a small valve gasket leak and it hasn't increased since I discovered it 4 yrs ago or so. Always garaged. I looked at new cars and they seem overly burdened with junk I don't want and some with a CVT's and turbo.s...no thanks! No manuals anymore. Think I will just keep cruising with my 6 cd changer and AM radio !!
