Ok, if you're going to complain about the Forrester's fuel economy, at least compare apples to apples. To put the Forrester up against it's hybrid competition isn't close to fair. How does the Forrester compare to the non hybrid CR-V and Rav4? I've got a 2022 Outback that I traded a 2013 Rav4 for. The Rav4 rarely approached it's EPA estimated fuel economy ratings, something that always disappointed me. My Outback has easily matched it's EPA estimates which means it has routinely returned 2.5 to 3 mpg better, across the board, than my Rav4 and that's with the Outback's AWD besting the Rav4's 2-wheel drive.
@robertknight46727 ай бұрын
Scotty Kilmer did a review of somebody Subaru Forester wilderness and because the owner had a bigger build the RAV4 was a bit small for him so we went with the Forester.
@Intrepid175a7 ай бұрын
@@robertknight4672 - My Rav4 was ok, comfort wise, but I think the Subaru is better. Obviously, I'm more satisfied with the Subaru's fuel economy than I was with the Toyota's. The best thing I can say for the Rav4 is I traded it in with 135k miles on it and in that distance, I never spent one dollar on the car for repairs. Nothing ever failed. All the money I spent on the car was simply maintenance related. So far, my Outback, approaching 50k miles, is in the same boat. Time will tell how well it stacks up against the Toyota on that statistic.

The non hybrid RAV4 motor also sounds like a piece of old farm equipment. I worked at a Toyota dealership when the current Rav model came out with that motor. As each sales guy drove the car the comments were “oh boy that’s not good” Hybrid model camouflages that a good bit and is definitely a better choice IMO…..but not apples to apples with the Forester. I would personally love the boxyness of the Forester in the Outback’s length….with an H6 😆 I can dream.

I did a lot of research for a couple months on the CRV, Rav 4, Mazda and Subaru Forester. I think the CRV was the best looking of the 4. The Rav was expensive to get the Subaru options as was the Mazda. In the end I went with the 2024 Forester Sport because i wanted the dual X mode and 2.5 engine and loved the black rims. Those 6 reasons won't affect me from buying the Subaru Forester. I just bought a used 2020 Forester Touring with 50Kmi. last week, in white with brown leather interior. I'm driving Honda Odyssey and my wife is driving Toyota Highlander. This car will be for my 18yrs old son so he can drive to UofH soon. This will be the first Subaru for me, for my family. After doing a lot of research, I decided to buy a Forester for my son. The main reason is safety and insurance cost. We only have this car for a week and so far, to be honest, I like it very much. MPG is around 29.5 for mix city/hwy driving. It has a lot of custom settings which I like. It has even more bells and whistles than my wife 2017 Highlander Platinum (except for 3D bird eyes view). This car is Made in Japan which I just found out later on. All in all, me my wife and my son like it so far.

As someone who owns the same exact car since new, along with eight Toyotas during my life, I can tell you this: The subie requires fastidious maintenance. It will also be in the repair shop more than your Highlander. I like the ride, visibility, and comfort but it is more delicate than brand T. Do a complete, 60K service at the dealer before junior goes off to college. It will run you $1600 but will be worth it.

I've been all over this segment (compact SUV) as I search for the replacement for my Forester XT. The bottom line seems to be that it is difficult to get everything in one place. Towing for example. The CRV Hybrid actually loses 500 lbs to the 1.5L turbo CRV, and is only rated for 1,000 lbs. If you opt for the Wilderness edition of the Forester, you can tow up to 3500 lbs. The stock RAV4 hybrid tows 1750 lbs. Maybe the Woodland is higher, but you do lose some mpg (ditto the Wilderness, as it's shorter gearing kills highway mpg). If you like some of the all-weather aids, you can't get fog lights (factory/dealer) on a CRV or CX-5/50. Honda even teases you with little chrome accents on the lower grill. And btw, the "go anywhere" CRV Hybrid does NOT have a spare tire, but instead a tire repair kit. Useless if you gash a sidewall or have anything bigger than a nail/screw sized leak. Not confidence inspiring if you use your vehicle for light off-roading. In this price range, most everything is somewhat of a compromise between price, reliability ratings, mpg, acceleration, useable cargo area, back seat room, etc. Apparently the electronic only AWD works fine in the RAV4 (rear wheels only driven by electric motor. A clever idea to eliminate the drivetrain, but when the roads get really slick or mud/snow gets deep, is it as good? Haven't seen anyone really address this.) Right now, the '24 Foresters are discounted (at least in my region) as the '25's are about to arrive. For a similarly equipped RAV 4 hybrid, it is several thousand more. (Comparing the Limited with 032 package) and the payback on gas savings is on the order of 10 years out if you drive 12K per year and use gas at $ 4.50 (regular in my region now). The CX-5/50 are just as sluggish as the Forster, unless you opt for the turbo versions, then expect combined 25 mpg. And cargo space, rear seat space are compromised. So, choose your compromise.

I’ve own two Super boo boo’s. Junk engine design that hasn’t changed much over the decades. When the engine starts to leak oil which is common for these, it drips right onto the exhaust manifold smoking you out in the cabin. My mom has a new one and at 22k miles the engine was totally rebuilt and she did maintenance perfect. I have many friends who own them. Head gasket leaks, burning oil way to soon and rebuilds for them too. While these drive nice and yes the Outback is better, same engine, I will never own another one.

The Subaru Outback XT models are no slugs by any measure, either. I've made fools of several Honda, Toyota, and Mazda drivers that wanted to 'play'.......

The 25 forester is a dissapointment. It use to be a good value price wise. The price increase for the 2025 model is not justified. Theres plenty of 2024 available. Why pay more for the same car. Its underpowered dated dash it just a bad refresh
