I remember doing the high side O ring on my 2000 Legacy GT back in like 2006. I did the dye test, found the leak and replaced that ring and it worked decently well. If I had the money or machine to do a full vaccum results would have been better

Haha this is literally the only thing that didn’t fail on the A/C on our 2017 Forrester. Subaru replaced two condensers, one evaporator, the compressor, and one lost charge from not tightening the bolt at the compressor on the hose you were showing. Mostly covered by Subaru, even out of warranty.

I have a Subaru Forester and the AC is starting to act up. I was going to go into the evaporator, very expensive. $1,000. I am definitely going to pop my hood tomorrow in the daylight, and take a look to see what this high pressure hose looks like. Great video

I just replaced my condenser and hoses. Great cold air now. Had the dealership discharge then recharge the 134a Freon. The condensers start to age after 6 years.

yeah actually i had o ring issues on my 2008 hatch 1.5r and loosing refrigerant overtime , the electrician changed those rings and said it is looking very clean ac system on this car , o ring can fail due to age normally and simple fix solved my issues with ac is not getting cold

I suspect my o rings on my 16 fxt as the past 2 years I have had to fill my system at the beginning of the season and it will hold through the season.

Excellent video. Can you make a video on a coolant drain and refill on the BRZ? I did it yesterday without the no spill coolant funnel. Was a pain to get the system bled. Surprisingly, there aren’t many good videos to reference for the procedure. I’d like to try the no spill coolant funnel next time to bleed the system much quicker.

Do you sometimes have to adjust the shims on the A/C compressor clutch on older 2006 Subaru Forester XT Turbos if the A/C stops cooling during idling at stoplights but starts cooling again when driving down the road? My current car hasn't started this yet, but my previous car had this exact issue.

If I can get a shop to discharge the system for me, I was going to do a compressor/condenser job later this spring on my '14 Forester. I was debating between flushing the lines or replacing all of them. At minimum I think this one is getting replaced thanks you that explanation of the potential weak point. Also, did you record the replacement of that rear trim piece below that rear window? I may need to do that on my car to fix the lift gate handle and was curious how brittle it was.

Mines leaked twice, first time it rubbed on the battery and exploded, second time it started leaking after radiation work. Doesn’t take much to ruin these hoses, 90$ a pop

2000 Outback. Checked fuses. Checked relay. Can feel relay clicking when I connect two green fittings under steering column and turn key on. Not getting voltage to connection on top of condenser. Does the ECM somehow recognize if there is sufficient pressure in the system to send power to the clutch. Just can't figure out why no power to the connector. Wire look good.

I've owned over 30 cars in the last couple decades.. motors, tranny's, is what made the repair move expensive than replacement of vehicle. Say what you want I rock buckets... Way cheaper overall. One system that never failed on me? A/c.

Just to explain. I spend 1k 3k on a car with mild issues, i.e some leaks, need brakes ext. Spend another 500 to make safe. I get a year I'm ahead.. you get a loan, spent 700+ a month on payments alone. In 6 months you're 7400 down with top insurance as required by the bank. Probably 10k a year. I've driven everything from sho Taurus to gsr Integra. Fox body's to Supras. A pain in the ass, yes. But not as much as dumping a thousand a month into cars I'll never own. And would regret... All hail the most earth friendly of practicing. Recycling classic cars. I could drive 10 old cars before you pay off the interest on your cyber truck and be greener to earth. The worst thing to ever happen to the car culture is cash for clunkers......

My leak is happening at the High-pressure valve seating. Even if I replace it, it comes right through. I feel like it can never seat properly, just replacing the whole discharge hose.

This car is a decade old with 230k miles on it. As long as no one slams a battery into the A/C line, it should be good to go for a long while yet.

​@MrSubaru1387 sometimes it's not the battery bumping the line. Sometimes the hose gets compromised when u don't discharge the ac during an engine removal, instead u leave it charged and fold the compressor over onto the battery tray. At this point u probably do not need to ask how I know this 😂

If the O-rings have failed, will residue be present around the connection point on the compressor? My wife's 2015 Outback is blowing hot air this spring. I checked the compressor for functionality, and as I was confirming this, I noticed an oily residue around the connection point of the high pressure line.

My 2002 has had a failing compresser for 3 years now. Really no clue how it's still going 😂 I did replace the O rings as Mr. Subaru mentioned, power steering o rings do the same thing on the old ones as well.

Can someone help me please! I have a 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i Premium (cvt). When im in reverse and i coast out of my garage/driveway it makes a high pitch whirr noise, this just started happening last Sunday and it hasnt gone away. The car also makes a thump thump noise coming from the driverside right of the car while idling and i cant figure out what the heck is going on with it. I have 136k miles on it. Thanks!

You can do it with much cheaper tools, you don't need the pro level charging station. There are vids on doing a similar thing using probably less than $100-$200 in tools. You need the gauges and a vacuum pump.
