You guys are giving me such LOTR nostalgia right now. The love and care that went into those movies is so evident in every element of the filmmaking, the extensive behind the scenes extras, and both the regular and extended editions are beautiful and complete films in their own right. (TTT extended ftw though-- Boromir flashbacks!!) You can tell how much everyone involved cared about the project and about putting out an incredible product... And it's sad to know that trilogy's forever going to be connected to the rushed nightmare cash grab that is the Hobbit films.
@alonsoarana5307

Greatest trilogy of all time; they've aged like fine wine, minus some shots of CGI but by God, like you said the love and soul they poured into making three beautiful fantasy films. This to me is the unironic Holy Trilogy (sorry Raimi fanboys those films don't even come close to the masterpiece that JRR Tolkien created). I would take this trilogy over every single franchise out there and I love my Star Wars, I love my MCU, but none of them are anything compared to LotR

The part in the Watchmen director’s cut that made me love that version even more than the original is the death of Hollis Mason - the original Nite Owl. It’s poignant and tragic but it’s the way he would have wanted it. In his final moments he got to relive his youth as Nite Owl. He died by the warrior’s code and he probably wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.

The director’s cut of Army of Darkness and the producer’s cut of Halloween 6 are both pretty good but the Robocop one is definitely my favorite. Also, I hope they eventually release an extended cut of Revenge of the Sith because the original cut before the theatrical cut was like four and a half hours long

I was hoping they'd talk about Army of Darkness. The weird thing is that both versions of that movie contain both good and bad things (and in the commentary for the director's cut, there's a scene where Raimi says he prefers the other version, so fuck knows why he included it). The ideal version would be a mix of both cuts. For instance, you really need to keep the original ending with its classic "Hail to the King" line. Perhaps you could follow it with the other ending, so that the first ending is just a dream.

It depends really. Some cuts are just xtra scenes with non finished CGI, some it’s actually extended movie (LOTR, BvS) and then you have unprecedented cases like the Snyder Cut where it’s an entirely different movie. The real deciding factor it’s whether these scenes have meaning to the theatrical release and actually improve the plot

Spider-Man 3 Editor’s Cut!! It reshuffles some scenes around and adds in some new ones. The first important one changes the “butler reveal” at the end of the movie. Instead of being sloppily told what happened to his dad, Harry looks at a graduation photo of himself, Peter, & MJ and cries. Another scene entirely changes the symbiote’s function in the story. It makes it seem like Peter is an addict suffering from withdrawal without the suit, and he’s freaking out a little bit in his apartment. He finally goes to the black suit and smiles eerily at it; you can faintly hear the symbiote make a noise to him, too. Cool stuff

Yay for all the cuts. Its great to have different takes on a movie just from a fans pov. I appreciate all your research into these cuts so I have a vague understanding on the one to dedicate my time too. But seriously, Good stuff! Keep it coming. I'd love more in depth dedicated caravans of garbage just on different cuts but I imagine I'd be one of the few and it's kinda redundant if you've already done the that movie and you covered so many in this video. Anyway, Keep it up chaps. Love your work!

I've found that the Extended Hobbit films communicate the intentions of expanding the story better than the theatrical cuts. The main difference is an entire subplot with the rings of power that got completely cut, along with more foreboding of Thorin's descent into madness and lots of nice character moments. Lots of fleshing out of the world which puts the Lord of the Rings into more context for non-book fans like me. Plus, I don't get the comparisons to the Star Wars prequels. Disappointment is a subjective thing of course but if we're just talking movie making craft and acting . . . I don't get it.

Sucker Punch is worth a watch, honestly I wasn't into it at all in theaters but was much more able to get into the plot on second viewing. It's definitely better visually than plot wise, for sure, but the movie works pretty well if you follow it from start to finish. The conceit of hallucinations/day dreams allows Zack to put literally whatever he wants on screen and that allows for some stunning visuals, but the plot holds it together pretty well. Sure it's no Watchmen, which I personally think will rank up high with the best CBMs over time and probably even transcend the genre for some. But it's still pretty good!

LOVE lotr. Love the extended cuts even more, even though the theatrical cuts were (nearly) perfect. I highly agree that all the lotr special features are amazing, if you love the movies--same with the commentaries. You can really feel all the effort, love, & (hehe) fellowship of the cast & crew. The Hobbit, though? I don't want MORE Hobbit... There were two movies too many as it bloody was! During the final filmed scenes, the wrap party, the end of production of lotr, you could really feel the emotion behind the end of that 10yr journey. Everyone was crying, hugging; the love showed so clearly in the final product. The Hobbit, though? Nothing but a frustrating rush-job. Seeing Ian McKellen's heart break at how soulless the production was isn't something I care to see more of... As the only returning actor with more than an extended cameo aside from Orlando Bloom, he must have had such high hopes for Jackson & expected a similar united passion project. He loved the effort behind the practical effects in the hobbit houses & action, & broke down filming the Shire party scenes where all the height differences would be done in CGI without most of the actors even filming with him. We all know it's not entirely Jackson's fault; he never wanted to do the Hobbit, but after Del Toro had to drop out, I guess he felt obligated & almost instantly regretted it under the studio bullshit/crunch. What a waste.

@@Vandreren83 Theatrical cut leaves more up to interpretation, director's cut adds the philosophy of time travel book excerpts so that Donnie's actions make a bit more sense with that context...But then again, a major theme of the film is whether or not Donnie is losing his grip on reality and going insane, so having that confirm early on that Donnie is fine and it's just the world he's in that's fucked up kind of spoils that in my opinion. I think the director's cut is a more accessible film, but not necessarily a better one.
