A Rogue Nation? Seems irresponsible but alright. This time around as we continue on through the Mission Impossible saga Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt must do another big stunt, this time strapped to the side of a plane, and butt heads with a super secret evil spy force lead up by Sean Harris' Solomon Lane. With newcomver Rebecca Ferguson joining the crew there's a lot to like in this fifth entry which somehow isn't getting worse. How? Magic I guess who knows. Thanks for watching our Caravan Of Garbage review!

Side fact: Tom Cruise filmed the aircraft scene at Wittering Airbase in Cambridgeshire which is up the road from my parents house (and where I grew up). My dad was watching the plane fly around so technically he was also watching a micro-Tom. My dad might also be in the film as a micro-dad as you can just about see where his house is from some of the background shots when TC is in the air. I just need the credits to include 'A confused looking 70 year old squinting at the sky' and I'll be happy :)

Fun bit of trivia but in order to make the underwater scene look so blue rather than fix it in post they collected a lot of blue dye. It was the most blue dye collected for a film production and that’s why the film had the working title Blue Harvest.

The Mission Impossible movies retain public interest because unlike a lot of other franchises, the sequels somehow get better with each one with the exception of Mission Impossible 2. Every other franchise has been getting hits and misses, too many flops in a row, or only being just barely competent with each instalment, but Mission Impossible just keeps surpassing itself somehow. I think a factor as well is that Tom Cruise is known to be an absolute madman and insists on doing all these stunts himself, especially with becoming a producer so that nobody could tell him no, so it's got both good story and insane spectacle working in tandem, and they just keep finding a way to up the bar, but not become so unbelievable because we know Tom most likely did it.

I do find it interesting how 5 and 6 are the first to actually have continuity that has relevance to the next one, with Ethan going against the remnants of the Syndicate and the leader coming back into play. Also they were the point when they went from being flashy to visceral, and it is something to think there is a real rush with these two in particular in the series (for now.).

I think the whole doppelganger conversation highlights the issue I've had with so many of these "former agents retaliating" plots, which is that I don't think the storytellers involved ever really tap into the antagonist's perspective and then flip it to the other side for the actual narrative. Someone like Ethan Hunt or James Bond is always in the know to some degree, and I'd love to see a story of that style where the protagonist almost thinks he/she is going crazy because their opposite is that good at their job. Things are just happening, items are just vanishing, and even as they're piecing together the facts that someone's working against them, they don't know how any of it's being done because the antagonist is advancing the tech and methodology in real time.

One of my favorite movies in the series. The motorcycle chase scene was so fun to watch in the theatre. The car chase scene that preceded it was also great. It's probably the least impressive irl stunt performed as far as the movie visual goes (hanging on from a plane), that being said it would be seriously scary to do irl so it's amazing that it was done at all. Mad Max Fury Road was released to kick off the summer blockbusters and Rogue Nation was released to close it off, easily one of my favorite summers to have gone to the cinema.

Love Rogue Nation. It's kind of a Cinderella between Ghost Protocol and Fallout, but you forget about them watching it. The opera and the bike chase are great. Ilsa is amazing. Such an effortless strong female character that the rest of the Hollywood can't get right to save their life. And with Emily Blunt in Edge of Tomorrow, there's something about Cruise movies where you get smart capable female characters that don't piss off the audience with ease. You really can't bruise the Cruise. And catching the bad guy in a box while a nice callback to the begginning of the movie is also a nice throwback to the original series where the team usually simply outsmarted the villain by working together.

Disney and Paramount reportedly butted heads regarding the naming of this Mission: Impossible film, due to Star Wars Rogue One also having “Rogue” in the title. But because Disney had come up with the name for its movie some time after the latest Mission: Impossible film was subtitled, Paramount was under no obligation to change it, and eventually allowed Disney to use the title, but only if it didn't promote its film until _after_ Rogue Nation's release. This is why prior to the release of Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, all advertising and marketing for Star Wars: Rogue One featured the working title “Blue Harvest” which was coincidentally also the working title for the original 1977 film Star Wars.

Did you know that when filming the big plane stunt Tom Cruise's internal body temperature fell to 82 degrees Fahrenheit? In fact his body was so cold that his skin actually turned blue which they had to fix in post, which the editors likened to harvesting a great scene from the raw footage. This led to the working title of the film being Blue Harvest, which was also the working title of Star Wars 1977

I love how barely anyone uses the actual names for MI movies... we all have shorthand. As you guys said, the most recent one is "Mission Impossible... the One Where They Fight in the Bathroom." MI5 for me is "the One with the Opera and the Underwater Heist" Anyone else got a mental shorthand?

it's telling that the most unmemorable thing about this movies are just the titles. Clearly the care goes into the actual movie.

This one is my favorite. The whole turbine, car chase, to bike chase is one of the best action sequences ever.

This video needed more wrestling in the 'double squad' section - bit of a Doink Wrestlemania 9 mirror spot, bit of a Bella twin-magic spot....book it.

@@claymathewselevator8121 Yeah I just saw that the other day - a troubled guy that didn't seem to get the help he needed, hopefully it doesn't happen as much in todays wrestling landscape.

Mr Sunday should become the new Aquaman. 16 minutes is just phenomenal. And wearing a T-shirt too! I bet Harold Holt would have been found if he was wearing that T-shirt.

As much as I like the MI movies, I can only remember the first two and Ghost Protocol, and even that last one, I always forget its title and think it's Rogue Nation. As for RN, I do remember the underwater stunt, it kind of gets to me, and some of the incredible car chases and that holding on to the airplane. Watching your review, it also brought to mind the record shop at the start of the movie and the capture of the baddie. But that's about it. So for me, these movies are in-and-out, fun but forgotten, much like Fast and Furious (for which I can only remember 5), but more exciting with amazing stunts.
