Twisting wire why not use a pair of Pliers?
@RIPPER334
@RIPPER334 6 жыл бұрын
wefreebefree Since most of the "twist" on the wire breaks off at the end any way, a normal person with a pair of pliers could have that wire twisted and cut in less time than it took him to load the wire into the bit/nut/whatever-that-was... And would be near guaranteed to be stronger, since manually you could control how many twist make up the "knot"... With your analogy of using an impact vs a tire iron, you would be doing a more efficient job, and faster with the impact... That's not exactly the case with this drill "hack"... In fact, all three of these are pretty useless. Spend half an hour grinding bolts and rigging up a hole saw... That would cut that a multitude of times easier and faster... And cutting and grinding a piece of tubing, when a drill bit would make a near instant holes in that leather... Only a simpleton would find any benefit to this video... Which is ironic since it would be much simpler to use the tool designed for the job.

luny .... that's just too easy come on admit it, you know deep in your heart you want to spend half an hour making a device that entails ruining a perfectly good drill bit whilst using the 500 dollar welder you had go out and buy to do it ...pliers are for whimps!

So, I click on the thumbnail because the tool looked intriguing. What could it be? A winding tool? Some weird new tool for something that I might find useful? Nah, it's a dull less effective hole saw! Not to mention that it would take more time and effort to make than going to the store to buy one! It isn't a "hack" if it is less effective in use and more wasteful to make.

I have a life hack for getting a drink of water. It involves a power drill, a custom bracket, 3 four inch bolts welded to the custom bracket. Then you go out to the backyard and start drilling down 500 feet to get to the water table. Make a custom cup from leftover cat food cans and 500 feet of telephone cord you cut off from the power poles on your street, then lower the cat food can down to bring up refreshing water 4 oz at a time. Or you can just go to the kitchen sink with a cup.

Hammer and chisel does OK. Use a narrow chisel for the small holes. Or you could make the punch with a tube and file on the inside, then just hammer it through the leather.

Clever but I wouldn’t have used wire to hold a sapling to a stake as it will cut through the tree as it grows unless you intend to use a larger one 6 or so months later.. When I was working with cast iron etc I would go through an immense amount of drill bits so I taught myself how to sharpen them on a spinning grind wheel which also was a bit of a buzz and past the time more.

Why turn a tube into a drill bit? Why not just get the right sized drill bit? Why make a hole saw out of three bolts, when you could just use a hole saw? The only hack I saw of interest was the first one for twisting wire, but I wouldn't twist it until it broke off, because there aren't enough twists left for it to last long term. So I'd just twist it down and cut it off with a 1/2" tail. Also, couldn't I just tighten the wires down into the drill chuck itself?
@YoungTeeke
@YoungTeeke 6 жыл бұрын
tube to drill bit - to drill through leather , normal drill bits will twist the leather and tear it up. those were clean cuts in the leather. 2 - why use hole saw out of 3 bolts? because not everyone wants to blow $10 or drive 1/2 hour to store to get the right size hole saw, just to use it one time. I agree the wire tie was cool
@TheTomco11
@TheTomco11 6 жыл бұрын
teekeman1 he essentially made a leather punch and then put it in a drill. A leather punch and a hammer does the exact same job with much more precision. As for the hole saw out of 3 bolts, it doesn't make a straight hole so why bother?

That first one is an awfully expensive way to twist wire. And breaking the wires off that close to what you're trying to hold is a good way to have the wire come undone. A nice pair of linesman pliers costs no more than that drill bit, and does a better quality job.

There is a safe tool for each of these home made torture devices that accomplish tasks easier and cheaper (than wasting my time making something for the next Saw movie)

That first drill and wire one... YOU DO NOT LET THE WIRE TWISTS BREAK OFF! THAT WILL BE SO WEAK AND IT OPEN UP!!

The first one... just stick the wire in the drill chuck without a bit. Just as fast, and no need to waste a bit.

The only one that makes sense is the tube tapered to punch holes in leather but I would not use it in a drill. I would use a mallet especially since the leather plug eventually will jam up inside the tube and will slow you down when having to remove it from the drill to unplug it. Using a mallet at least allows you to push out the plug with an awl or similar tool before it fills up. By the way, I repair/replace snowshoe straps as a part time job and often use leather or webbing and sometimes my adjustable hand punch just is not tough enough to punch the hole. Also using a drill would not be safe on the webbing.

the first one. if you keep twisting the wire until is breaks, you lose strength in the wrap and it can come undone much easier.

Breaking off the tie wire so it barely overlaps creates the weakest connection. Toasting a drill bit and a nut, also having to use an arc welder, to do a worse job than you can by hand.

yeah, right ... cutting the wire so short will make the tight unreliable ....also such big holes on this collar will make it weak ...

so if you have all the tools to make these drill "bits" wouldn't you probably already have all the real tools for these jobs like a leather punch a hole saw and a wire twister, which are all common and inexpensive tools
