It's a golden age of 5e alternatives. What I like about this is that I can piece out a lot of great ideas/systems/rules from different sources and put together something that works for me and my players. Currently I'm using a lot of level up: a5e, some of cubicle 7's stuff for character building and travel, and the luck system from Kobold press's TotV. Nimble is definitely on my radar, too.

That's exactly what I'm using; Level up A5E for nearly everything with some frosting from 'A Life Well Lived' for backgrounds and adding in 'Uncharted Journeys' and 'Wondrous Expeditions: Forests' combined with the options in A5E for journey mechanics, and I stole the Luck Points idea from Tales of the Valiant. I picked up Nimble version1 and looking even more forward to Nimble 5E so I can fold some/most (but not all) of those rulesets in to make the game faster and more fun. And I don't have to make the players learn a ton of extra/new systems to play since it's all 5E compatible. Go ahead and bring your vanilla 5E character if you want, or branch out and use a ToV or A5E character instead. You're right; it's a total golden age for 5E alts/fixers/compatible-stuff. :)

@@alderaancrumbs6260 I have taken a glance and it does look interesting. It seems to have taken a different approach but the goal of filling the game out without over complicating things seems to be the same. I look forward to seeing more of it, actually.

I've recently been looking at A5e and Ninble I like the idea of having both a more basic and a more advanced version

As a fellow cypher system DM, it's cool to see you like Nimble for similar reasons.

Something else to point out is, you absolutely can play the nimble classes at the same table as traditional 5e classes. There are simple conversion rules to make 5e classes compatible with nimble, which is great because it gives the choice between streamlined and fast or intricate and free-form versions of their favorite archetypes.

I'm working through this video pretty slow today at work which is the reason for the multiple comments. The way my group has been handling turns is, all players share a turn and can even spend part of the actions points before letting another a player act to then follow-up when it makes tactical sense. An easy example why this is cool would be: All players that want to buff can buff before everyone uses the rest of their action points to attack. This isn't **super** OP, but it incentivizes strategic thinking and keeps all players involved for the entire combat round which is the point of this kind of system. If the player's aren't being particularly forthcoming with their actions, I then fall back to clockwise/counter-clockwise turns to keep things moving. It feels very natural once you get the hang of it, and it's super fast.

I'm considering moving from Level Up A5e for a few of my groups if this game turns out as good as it seems to be, A5e is great, but its crunch is also not for everyone. Nimble 5e seems to make combat super interesting while keeping crunch at a minimum. :)

Thank you for covering this. I had heard about this for the first time just yesterday. I wanted to check it out. I'm pretty all in on TOV at this point but I can always take ideas from it.

I've only read Nimble combat rules, and i think it might be the best iteration of D&D-adjacent combat rules

I spy your first Steamforged Games product on that bottom shelf (as I did in the last video). Thought it was City of Mist for a second, but that has a very different graphic design.

They do, but the players can spend an action from their following turn as a reaction to mitigate damage based on their AC. So it leaves the player an interesting choice where they decide if they want to defend themselves now or do more actions the following turn.

Can a Maul or Greatsword fumble/miss in this game since they roll two dice & the minimum will always be above a one, or can they miss more often because they now have 2 chances of rolling a one? (Sorry, if your words were more clear, but I only caught the data while doing something else & I couldn't figure out where you said it to clarify.)
@MrTarrasque
@MrTarrasque Ай бұрын
If you roll double dice, the one that lands most left is considered the ‘main’ die and a 1 on that tells you you miss. Same with a crit.
@finncullen

If you roll Max Damage then damage explodes - so weapons with a lower damage die critically hit more often than those with higher damage? 25% of hits with a d4 weapon do criticals, only 10% of hits on a d10 weapon?

Exploding damage is bad for game balance, on both sides of the screen. We had really unfun results with Savage Worlds' exploding dice. PC and Boss one-shot kills are more likely.
@TravDadGamer
@TravDadGamer Ай бұрын
you could house rule that you can only explode a die as many remaining actions as your character has. It wouldn't cost actions, but it limits the max damage

Hard disagree! Acing is so exciting. That “1st level” character can pull off that unlikely strike, felling the evil knight. It keeps things from just being “Big math to small math”, with little consequence. Also, SW has a TON of features to tweak, making things more or less deadly.

It's true that we're surrounded in evil conspiracies which are all turning out to be true, but it's hard to see how a 5E ruleset to improve and speed up play is somehow tied in with the evil forces destroying the world. You're gonna have to connect more dots for me on that one. :)
