@@MrTerry No, he didn't. When WW1 started, Hitler was in Munich at the time. Which Hitler didn't mind since he had a great love for Bavaria, and preferred serving in the German Army. He went to the conscription place in Bavaria, and for some reason they either didn't check his nationality, or Hitler convinced them to have him join the German rather than Austrian Army. Hitler himself said the latter was the case in his "Mein Kampf", but like much, the veracity is questionable. My source is the first of the recent two-part biography of Hitler by Volker Ullrich.

They were given very basic training and sent to hold the line when the offensive stalled at the Marne. The German's refer to this incident as the "Slaughter of Innocents" (the author of All Quiet on the Western Front had a quite similar experience). So here is my theory. Would it be accurate to think that WW2 wouldn't have taken place without WW1? Sure Italy would still have Mussolini, but Hitler seems to have come to power specifically because of the after effects of WW1. With that thought in mind, and while I know this wasn't the only reason WW1 happened, do you think the assassination of archduke Ferdinand technically caused both world wars?
@MrTerry5 жыл бұрын
Technically speaking, there wouldn't be a second war without a first war. However, the causes of WW2 were directly caused by the effects of WW1. If the terms of the Treaty of Versailles were different, and the handling of the end of WW1 in general were different, I think you would have seen a very different post-WW1 era. Would WW1 have been the War to End All Wars though? I doubt it. The Assassination was the spark to a conflict that was likely bound to happen. The nations of Europe were ready for war (see the acronym MAIN - Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, Nationalism). It almost seem inevitable.
@unknowndane47545 жыл бұрын

Involving the avoiding and then joining the military I think it was basically he didn't want to fight for Austria-Hungary because they were an Empire filled with "Lesser races" but he moved to Germany and was more than happy to fight for the German Empire

Hitler left Austria to avoid Military Service in 1913. WWI started in 1914. So i don't know where you get your "he avoided the War" Theory from. But it really doesn't ad up time wise.
@Comintern19195 жыл бұрын
Not quite. He avoided the Austrian Draft already 1909, and he didn't specifically move to Germany to avoid it. Maybe it played a little part, but that wasn't a main reason. But otherwise I agree with you, nothing suggest he avoided the war. In fact, everything not suggests, but almost outright proves he was enthusiastic about it. My source is the first part of the two-part biography of Hitler by Volker Ullrich.
@junnage39124 жыл бұрын
Per wikipedia, “Hitler received the final part of his father’s estate in May 1913 and moved to Munich, Germany. When he was conscripted into the Austro-Hungarian Army, he journeyed to Salzburg in Feb 1914 for medical assessment. After he was deemed unfit for service, he returned to Munich. In August 1914, he voluntarily enlisted in the Bavarian Army. According to a 1924 report by Bavarian authorities, allowing Hitler to serve was almost certainly an administrative error, since as an Austrian citizen, he should have been returned to Austria.” Hitler later claimed he did not wish to serve Habsburg Empire because of the mix of races in its army and belief that the collapse of Austria-Hungary was imminent.

well your mom being a woman didnt really have much recourse to be in publicly elected positions, in a society which is now volatile and in a brink of utter chaos and confusion, coming out from the greatest disaster in human history(until that point) and being blamed on the said society( germany). It is also unclear if your mom had abusive upbringing which led her to believe there are predator(greater men) and prey(lesser men) and in order to not be the prey you have to be the predator.

He didn’t want to fight for a country like Austria-Hungary because of its many ethnicities.
@Comintern19195 жыл бұрын
Actually, there is no proof of that, nothing that suggest this is specifically why, or even one reason among many, why Hitler tried to avoid the Austrian-Hungarian Draft.

@@Comintern1919He was a nazi. Thats proof enough to me
@Comintern19194 жыл бұрын
@@sharik8728 At that point he wasn't a Nazi yet. He wasn't "born" a Nazi, he didn't join the Nazi Party right after coming out of the womb. And even if it's still no reason to believe that over other more likely theories with more proof for them.

@@Comintern1919 Nazi isn't a just a party. Its an idea. He was always extreme right and its natural to him to hate austro-hungarian minorities
@Comintern19194 жыл бұрын
@@sharik8728 What do you mean? Nazism, or National Socialism was tied to the Nazi Party and not a universal word used for anyone Racist. He could have been a Racist way before he was a Nazi, even a Fascist since not every Fascist was/is a Nazi. So no, Hitler wasn't a Nazi before he joined the Nazi Party and embraced National Socialism. There were rather big differences for example between Italian Fascism and German Nazism. No offense, really, but I hate how people nowadays always equal Racism with Nazism and being a Nazi. And I wouldn't say Hitler was always Extreme Right-Wing. It was his experience in WW1 that really pushed him into the Racist and Extreme Far-Right, before he most likely flirted with Ultra-Nationalist All-German thoughts and groups but he wasn't a dedicated "Far-Right-Provocateur" or "Ideologue", at least not from the beginning as you claim. His ideas and ideological was still, in his young years, changing and not yet fully grounded. He even had good Jewish Friends before his rise to power and even made some concessions to them and tried in some way to protect them. All in all, I am not saying the hate for the minorities couldn't have been a reason for Hitler not joining the Army, but most likely it wasn't the only or biggest reason.
