Brings back memories of the early 60,s ...used to hear them at nightime when i was just a kid (1963 ) quite a haunting sound if the wind was blowing from the West quite loud ...my father worked at Robert Stephensons loco works till 1962 ..the first 37,s came out around 1959 ...think they did some of the first batch of orders . Amazing life for this loco and its still going strong !

Why do the 37’s sound so much better than the other engines with similar power units in v16 or whatever configurations

Fond memories of travelling up to Cambridge from King's X or Liverpool St, being pulled along by a 37. The sound as it roared along and occasionally throttled up will forever be imprinted in my mind.

If there was a ‘King of thrash’ award, the 37’s have got to top of the nominations.

Loved the class 37s always excited to hear them and to see them and what they were coupled to for their journey. I'm sure Network Rail uses the class 37s as well not to sure though.

Are some Class 37s fitted with Class 40 noses, I've seen some that look almost identical. Are they compatible for a start?
@richardharvey72083 ай бұрын
Hi,they are from the same manufacturer English electric, the class 40 was produced first but the design of the class 37 came from its African export model in the early 1960s. Never heard of a class 40 nose swap with a class 37. What’s about now is the second edition with its box head code and central door sealed so they look 40 ish. The bulb nose design actually comes from early American Locomotives. Hope that helps Richard

@@richardharvey7208helped me anyway, I always wondered the same thing. I grew up in the 80s and the 37s were our regular loco here in Kyle of Lochalsh. I love them - we’d walk along the railway line to get to a beach we swam at a few miles out of Kyle and you could hear the train coming from miles away - a warning to get off the line with minutes to spare! I wish I could see some today! Unfortunately, we have those pug-ugly modern Sprinter types that came into service up here around 1989/90.
