Your videos are so good! I have no questions! You have answered them all! I've done only seven tie dyes with sweat dripping down my head. Every one of mine looked fantastic except one (my sister still liked it)...but you learn from your mistakes. I was unable to tie the spiral easily but this tutorial has given me more confidence. First, I was trying to tie it with rubber bands and I needed kite string. Then, I would get so far, lose my direction and scrunch the rest (it looked JUST ok). My final and well received tie dye was super easy. I fan folded the whole shirt from the bottom, slapped on those rubber bands and used 2-3 colors. I let them process and bam they were gorgeous. One of my relatives wanted a tie dye peace sign on her shirt. That's how I found your excellent tutorials. I'm soaking 3 shirts in soda ash right now to attempt the peace sign! Thank you so much! ✌

Here is a video on how to mix the dyes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXfNY2tviZt1jMk Also, if you are using fiber reactive dyes, is the tee shirt 100% cotton??, these dyes do not work on polyester and did you use soda ash?? ..... Soda ash is what activate the Fiber Reactive Procion Dyes, another name for it is Sodium Carbonate. You can find it at one of the dye houses, or you can purchase locally from a pool supply store, or in the laundry isle under the name Washing Soda, just be sure to check the label says 100% Soda Ash. Thank you for helping me become a better artist and for helping me color a small, southern town with PRIDE 😄 I thought the bulk of my dyes were accidentally thrown out when I moved last year so I ordered another 14 8oz containers of Dharma Dyes only to find ALL 46 colors I have (I forgot to unpack them from the trunk of my car 😬) So... I'll ABSOLUTELY have color options! 😂 I'm excited to do various "flag" colors with light/dark versions of each color on either side! Thank you! Thank You!! THANK YOU!!!

I've got an experiment going! I did the usual spiral wrap like you did here. BUT... I've applied purple, fuchsia and turquoise blue in that order to the outer section of the "pie slices". Then I applied fuchsia to the inner sections of the purple slices, turquoise blue to the inner sections of the fuchsia slices and purple to the inner section of the turquoise blue slices. Then I flipped it over and did the same thing in the same orders. This palette usually gives me a nice mix of the original 3 colors of fuchsia, turquoise and purple, plus a nice sort of royal blue, a pretty magenta and a violet that's a little different from the original purple. I' thinking that this application may give me a "Color Shift" spiral-- but we shall see! I let my work batch for 24 hours. It's setting now, so tomorrow afternoon will be the reveal!
@meganmcgowan57983 жыл бұрын
Saturday afternoon reveal... and it turned out SO COOL! It did produce a great color shift with each element of the spiral having 3 colors-- turquoise, purple and fuchsia, or some combination of 3 mains and/or secondaries. I used kite string to tie it off and rubber bands instead of fabric marker just to make the slices. The white rays are razor sharp (as best as they would be with this brand of dye, the one I constantly rag on), and the inner spiral sections are almost a solid line running around through the segments until the spiral widens out, and they slowly separate into the typical color blocks aligned parallel to the direction of spin. Wish I could share a picture after it dries! This is really, really nice with LOTS of color and well placed small pieces of white, just enough to add some shine and pop to the color. It's freaking awesome!
@MrTieDye3 жыл бұрын
WOW ... that sounds awesome... I love to experiment and the spiral gives so many options.... I have played with the shifts in color lines.... I do love what I do ... and I got my training by working in the schools with the kiddos for the last 16 years... gotta be laid back when you have 25 kids standing at your table :-) .... as for my rinsing/washing .... I start by rinsing in cold water to rinse away the soda ash for about a minute, then I turn the water up to warm and rinse more while I remove the ties ... I rinse for a few minutes until the water starts to run semi clear, then into the washer which has hot water and synthrapol soap already added ..... here is a video on my whole rinsing /washing process ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmGwkKGpqbCeoK8 thanks again and you are welcome!! Keep on Dyeing Rainbow Warriors!!

Thank you and yes I love it to, and you can mix up more colors from the ones you have, you can make lighter shades by adding a bit of mixed dye to a bottle and then filling it up with water ... and you can make some browns by mixing yellow and purple, or orange and green ..... I think I am going to add dye mixing into my Wed LIVE video this week

Thank you Mr. Tie Dye! I made my first ever shirt 3 days ago and it looks amazing. I made one based on the rainbow scrunch video, and now my goal is to make a spiral. I did have one question. I sell screen printed shirts on Redbubble and I want very badly to tie dye one of them, but I was unsure if the dye would hurt the screen printing. Is it safe to tie dye a shirt that has a printed design if I turn it inside out and start with lighter colors in the center? Thank you again, and I love your content!
@MrTieDye4 жыл бұрын
You are welcome and yes I have dyed many tees that have screen print on them... I cannot speak to all screen printing, but the one I have done were fine, sometimes there was a little bit of staining... and some that had a very light design, i would avoid putting dye directly on, or I would use a light color. BUT, for the best looking screen print, it is best to dye the tee first and then add the screen print if that is an option.
