BUT, my favorite way to remove color is with Out White Brite ... it comes in powder form and can be found in the Bleach isle at the store ... it removes more color so I can then add color back in and it just needs to be rinsed/washed ... no need to neutralize anyways, I am glad you are having fun ✌🏻

I like that you gave the clear advise on bleach stop. I watched another video that didnt mention it so I added the need for it in the comments but he insisted he never found it necessary.....well, ok, I tried. And I too don’t continue to leave bleach on a shirt that is resisting colour removal. If I want it white I just try different brands till I find one that bleaches white instead of amber. I have the experience of making a beautiful mutli-bleached and dyed shirt using the bleach stop each time and still by the time I was finished all my processes it disintegrated in my hands 😞

Thank you for your amazing videos Mr Tie Dye they're amazing. I was just wondering, how many t-shirts can you bleach stop using one mix of the hydrogen peroxide solution? Do you have to change it after two or three or can you use it for 10+? I want to get a big batch of reverse tie dyes done but I've got no idea how affective it is once it's been used to stop a couple of t-shirts.... Again, thank you so much for your videos

Love these and all your vids. Re-watching the bleach ones and had a question. Would it be better to soak in Bleach Stop before rinsing since during the rinsing process it might be possible for diluted bleach to stain the places we want to keep dark? This way we deactivate the bleach right away. Have you tried it that way? Thanks :)

Thanks Mr. Dye. This and all of your videos are informative and inspiring. I have a question about the bleach neutralizer. I’m planning to use this technique as a craft project at a family camp out in November. There will be anywhere from 5 to 20 people doing this. Do you have any sense how long the hydrogen peroxide solution will last? For instance, how many T-shirts can be neutralized in say a two gallon mix? Thanks! I enjoy your videos very much!

you are welcome, I am glad to be of help and love to inspire people ... as for the bleach stop, I am not sure... I have only made a few tees at a time .... you can have a few bottles on hand and make a few buckets of the bleach stop and just rotate after 5-6 tees just to be safe I know some dyers just pour some peroxide right on the tee where the bleach is .... but one thing that will make the bleach stop last longer is to do a quick rinse of the tee before you put it in the bleach stop

Hello, Mr.TieDye! If we can't find any bleach stop, can we use 50/50 on bleach and water to lessen the harmful effects of the bleach? I love your videos!
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 4 жыл бұрын
I usually dilute my bleach to 50/50, but you still need to neutralize it, or over time you will develop holes .... Hydrogen Peroxide is one of the things I use to do this and explain it in the video but I recently found this info with one more way to neutalize it ..... Anti-Chlor: use 1 teaspoon (4.9 mL) per 4 cups (950 mL) of water.[4] Bleach Stop: 1 ounce by weight (30 grams) per 1 gallon (3.8 L) of water.[5] Vitamin C/Ascorbic acid: Crush up 4-6 tablets and add the powder to enough water to submerge the fabric. Hydrogen peroxide: 1 part hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts water.[6] www.wikihow.com/Neutralize-Bleach

What if you dye tie dye over the spots where you bleached.. do you still have to do the bleach stop?
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 5 жыл бұрын
yes... the bleach will will continue to 'eat' away at the fibers if it is not stopped/neutralized ...... I have done some where I tied it, bleached, rinsed, bleach stopped, rinsed really good, added soda ash and the dyed .... so it can be done, but the bleach stop is the most important step and should not be skipped

Is it possible to bleach dye through a dabbing method? Let's say you wanted a small section (a square) of a tee to be bleached, is it possible to simply wet the tee, dab the area you want bleached, let it sit, and then rinse to achieve similar results?
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 4 жыл бұрын
yes you can... in one of these videos I use toilet bowl cleaner that has bleach in it and it is a gel so it does not spread much.... but I would still neutralize it after you are done bleaching it as rinsing and washing is not enough to stop the bleach from eating a hole in the fabric down the line .... kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzuqUum7wx4njWkcy_HI10P-o

Hi, do you wash the shirt in soda ash and spin before the rest of your process. I'm confused if you use soda ash soak for a shirt you are going to bleach dye.
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye 3 жыл бұрын
no, if I am doing a bleach tee, I just wash it and then pull it out of the washer and tie it up while it is still damp as it is easier to fold that way.... if I am going to add dye to it, then I will soak in soda ash after it has been neutralized and at least rinsed, but most times I will wash and then soak in soda ash and then add dye ..... BUT, more recently I have found OUT and Rit color remover and both of them work so much better than bleach and no need to neutralize : kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzuqUum7wx4njWkcy_HI10P-o

I have not found a brand that goes to white using bleach, BUT, with Out White Brite, I have tees go to a very light tan color... and with OWB, there is no need to neutralize the tee when you are done bleaching it... just rinse very well or wash and then you are ready to tie-dye it ... here is my full Discharge Playlist : kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzuqUum7wx4njWkcy_HI10P-o where I demo OWB as well as Rit Color Remover, Decolourant and Bleach (I also show how I neutralize the bleach in each of the 3 bleach videos, though one change, I now skip the rinse and just put the tee right into the solution when I get the color I want)

Hi there, just curious to see if you know: is the bleach stop you mentioned the same as soda ash?
@MrTieDye
@MrTieDye Жыл бұрын
No it is not ... a Peroxide Solution, or the bleach stop from dharma are meant to stop the chemical reaction from the bleach, just rinsing is not enough to stop it and you could end up with holes later on if the tee is not neutralized Soda Ash is what activates the Procion Dyes ... so if I am going to add some color back into the tee, then I soak in soda ash, then add the dyes just in case it helps, here is my Beginner's Playlist to give an overview of Tie-Dye and the various components : kzbin.info/aero/PLMEtBqB2BzuquDrHsqxbv8LdFkaIyy3wo

@MrTieDye Жыл бұрын
I have done it many ways ... this one I left it just like this .... other times I will remove color and then, neutralize the bleach, then I rinse it very well, soak in soda ash and then dye it and then sometimes I will remove the color, then open it up, rinse it, neutralize it, then wash it ... then soak in soda ash and then dye it .... there are no set rules on how to do most tie-dye things... BUT, with Procion Dyes, the main rule to follow is to have the dye, cotton and soda ash all together before you batch it .... but most of the rest of the process is optional and gives slightly different results when you remove color and then want to dye it dyeing it while tied up, you are coloring the pattern that you removed color from.... in this case it is a heart and that would be easy to re fold and dye.... but other complicated folds ..... BUT, if you un tie the design,then re tying it will put a color pattern over top of the color remove pattern... I hope that all made sense

i picked up 2 fat squares at wlmart last fall to try this ...... i thought they were cotton..... i folded one in December and just getting to bleach it now..... hmmmm well, the bleach looked like it was just rolling off the fabric..... i had washed it, it was dry. so after 20 minutes i filled a tub half bleach half water and soaked it again..... i hope it does something the way the bleach acted on the fabric im thinking NOT 100% cotton

yeah it is weird how the bleach does not work on some fabrics .... I usually start with my tee or fabric barely damp... so I do a pre wash, spin out and then tie it up while damp and add the bleach, this helps it soak in rather than run off ...... if you have something tied and it is dry, you can try spraying it with a bit of water... or you can dunk it and then spin it out .... I hope you next try goes better

@@MrTieDye you are kind Thank you. I didn't give up. I realized i was using splashless bleach. . I luckily found a different bottle of concentrated bleach in the basement and tried again. i applied the half water half bleach on the fabric and it soaked in much better. i let it sit for 20 minutes.... then in a pint of peroxide in a gallon of water for about 40 minutes . It was pretty bright orange and black but its my first try so next time i guess i will leave the bleach on longer .
