Thanks for the cool videos man, Your work is fantastic! I can’t express enough the appreciation and respect for the time and effort that you actually put into these videos to teach this art. I experimented with several kits and basic designs over the years, always fascinated by the art but never happy with my results. After studying your videos, I decided to get some professional dyes and supplies, then Shazam!... very 1st try was the long sleeve with hearts. Came out totally fantastic! Made a couple spiders and pot leafs, impressed all results! Wish I could show you my shirts, thanks again man! Now I’m hooked, ordered case of shirts, new hobby for the winter.

I got into it 21 years ago and it was very secretive at that time, so I did a lot of experimenting to learn as much as I could ... then I started in teaching others through home parties and school events.... I think that is what trained me up so when I felt called 16 year later to share my knowledge with whoever wanted to learn, I started my channel ... I am a shy person by nature, so I felt that I would do a series of videos on some of the basics and then stop, but I had so much fun creating these videos that I just kept going ... thank you for sharing your story with me and I am glad you had success with your projects ✌🏻❤️🌈🥳🙏

I just turned 5😱years old the 8th of April n I’m doing my first tie-dye shirts! Hahaha late bloomer I guess🤷‍♀️so very glad to have stumbled upon your channel! I am learning so much and having a ball! My hubby is not sure where our kitchen counters have gone but is pretty impressed with some of the results I’m getting ❤️thanks to your great teaching🙏! He is not easily impressed. So thank you for making me look good! Giggles I’ve watched so many of your videos I feel like we are old pals hahaha God Bless n please keep up the great work so I can keep it up too ( the movie Roxanne just came to mind starting Steve Martin lol). MrTieDye Wow no wonder your so great at it! You do make it look way easier than it can be but I’m getting the hang of it I think anyways...except the waiting 😩 48hours I have so much room for improvement in the patience department! Lol I do have one probably silly question tho...what makes tie dye different from say like RIT fabric dye? Do they do the same thing, or are they different? I was just wondering?

I really liked the sleeves that you showed at the end. (dark blue or black shirt) Kinda looked like kaleidescope diamonds on the elbow area. How do you achieve that design on the sleeve? Thanks! Love your instruction!

Hi Mr Tie Dye! I found your videos recently when I was looking for ideas for an old one-step kit I found in my house. The results were just meh, so I bought proper supplies from Dharma. I can’t wait to get started! Need something to keep my mind occupied in these crazy times. Your videos are so helpful! I was wondering what I should do if my fabric dries out during the folding process (after soaking in soda ash). Can I continue with dying or is it better to re-dampen it somehow?

wonderful, I am glad to be of help. As for the fabric drying out... yes you can go right to dyeing, but if the dye seems to want to roll off rather than soak in, then I will lightly spray it with soda ash water and then go back to dyeing

What is the benefit of putting one sleeve inside of the other? Can I get the same result by folding the t shirt in half? Also was this shirt done inside out? Thank you ☺️

it helps to make the design even side to side on the front and on the back .... when you fold a tee straight in half with the front side out, then the two half's of the front of the tee has two layers of fabric in between them .... most design are fine, but some, like the spider will show up as uneven ... when you tuck one sleeve into the other then the 2 half's of the front and the 2 half's of the back are together and will most likely be fairly even side to side when dyed ... and yes I turn the tees inside out, first it helps me to straighten the tee because i can easily grab the seams, but the main reason is, sometimes there are tiny specks of dye that do not dissolve all the way and will leave tiny spots on the tee, if it is inside out, then they will most be on the inside of the tee although, I got ahead of myself in the video, it is much easier to fold in half, or center as I call it, a tee before you start tying it, here is my video on the process .... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6q7l6eJhad8itE ......................................... this also separates the front from the back in case you want to tie different things on the front and the back ... I want to make a heart hoodie with a heart on front and back and one on the hood is that possible?

yes it is, but since a hoodie is so thick, I would tie the front and the back heart separately .... and the hoodies I use have a double layer of fabric on them, so I would pull just the outside layer and fold the heart on it .... the thick fabric is harder to wrangle in so take your time as you fold and then I would tie with sinew, but kite string or rubber bands should work also .... I still fold in half but cannot tuck one sleeve into the other ... but you can center it this way ..... kzbin.info/www/bejne/l6q7l6eJhad8itE ... and in the video at the point where I draw a little line top and bottom is where you can just lay the cami down, smooth things out and then line up the front and the back on top of each other and you have your cami folded in half ready to tie something like the spider.... and I do not do anything special to the straps, they just get folded into the rest of the design

Do you dye stuff inside out?

yes I do... sometimes the pencils I use to mark with do not wash all the way out, so this way any stray marks will be on the inside... also, sometimes there are very tiny specks of dye that do not dissolve and they leave tiny spots... so most times these spots are also on just the inside of the tee

I think since the fabric is so thick that I would not put the sleeves together if I was doing a hoodie and wanted to put hearts on the sleeves ...... but I would measure and draw the hearts on the sleeves so I get them at the same place on both sleeves.... then I would fold the sleeves and then center the hoodie and do the rest of the folding ...... then sleeves would be a little awkward since they are not inside one another but you just have to work them around to lay as flat as you can as you scrunch and tie it up, making sure you still have the hearts out so you can dye them... have fun and I wish you success!!
