Lanzarote was fantastic last xmas, everyone was friendly and happy. They especially enjoyed my 4 year old son saying Feliz Navidad to everyone he could see. We enjoyed it so much that we have booked tenerife for this christmas

Scotland is exactly the same - from Skye to the NC500 - tourism has had such a negative impact on our country. We've started to licence AirBNB ... it's scary at just how many there are. Also, when it comes to buying, locals can't compete with money coming from the likes of the south of England. We really do need better, social, housing.

Thanks Dave for a very informative video. We've been coming to Lanzarote, Playa Blanca, since 2011, our next visit will be the end of March to celebrate my 70th. And it will be our 24th holiday here. (Palmeras Gardens). We read a lot on line about 'new conditions' that may be imposed upon us, some common sense and some total rubbish. We love Lanzarote and nothing will stop us enjoying our time In paradise. We respect the island and the locals and do our best to recycle and conserve water etc. We will be back in July with our grandkids in a villa and are looking forward to the good times ahead.

Currently in Gran Canaria and can only echo comments about the pleasantries received while here. I was somewhat apprehensive about media coverage but with the exception of one negative graffiti I saw in Las Palmas, I can recommend visiting. When I compare visits to France and Belgium I found the hostility shocking .

Fabulous video. We go to Gran Canaria more than any of the other Canary islands and there doesn’t seem to be any issues there. The tax in Mogan GC is a ridiculously small amount and if it helps I don’t see any problem. Many other countries impose a tourist tax and have done for many years. paid 40 euro in Ibiza a couple of years ago for a week in a 4 star hotel. people will pay if they want to travel to these beautiful places. Even Edinburgh is contemplating introducing a tax.

It is dave beautifull..heritage town..that castle gorgeous but when it's lit all .up at night it's magical..no anti tourisem here 😅😅.oye when ever you get over..castles opened at weekends ..during the week.if you can bring your drone over the castle it blow you away..won't be long now for ypu and Jack's trip in March.. my sister and hubby spent there honeymoon in Egypt when they went on excursion to ciaro..there was about 6 armed guards protecting the tourist...so davie be very carefull..on your adventures..be safe keep your wits about you at all times..I hope all is sorted in Spain.. look forward to your next video..as always.cheers dave ❤❤ collette from trim

Renting out a holiday home isn’t the problem. It’s those that buy properties purely for profit. More and more companies are buying multiple properties. Get rid of Airbnb. That will be a good start.

@@LewieLeway This is bullsh%t and you know it. The workers would live in them which is the whole point of their anger. It's the same all over the world, holiday homes wreck local communities. I'm from the UK and it's exactly the same problem here, locals driven out and their communities ruined. The only way tourism works is if the tourists stay in hotels. The moment you open up holiday homes and airbnb's, rents and mortgages sky rocket making everyone that isn't a landlord poor. It's a horrible system that should be banned worldwide, and I say this as a landlord. Our local council recently started closing down airbnb's and already rents are down 40% from 2 years ago. The cheaper properties are being snapped up by families who are moving back into the area.

There is a so,union to the side where the rentals are not authorised. The government can do as is now the case in the Uk. Get the likes of AirBNB (but to be clear it’s the fault of the owners not really AirBNB) to have to report the incomes of rentals to the authorities. They can then check the properties are registered correctly and also go after the tax of the income. As for the side of renters not being able to be evicted quickly. This isn’t much different to same quandary in the UK. Eviction requires involvement of the law and is a lengthy process. I think this process needs to be made slicker. However in UK the landlords can also terminate a lease with a months notice, once 3 months has elapsed. This too is wrong as it gives too much power to the landlord, don’t know if this is the same in Spain. There needs to be a more middle ground so the rogues who don’t pay are evicted quicker and the good paying tenants have reasonable protection. As always well presented video.

The locals are targeting the wrong people. It's not the tourists that are the problem, it's local landlords renting out their properties to tourists. All they need to do is ban holiday homes / airbnb's and then the tourists would only stay in hotels. This way, the Islands get to keep their tourism economy with zero effect on the local housing market. Sure, British tourists aren't the best behaved, but they are still spending their money in the economy which supports local businesses and jobs. Bad behaviour is a policing issue, and that could be solved with on the spot fines. Trust me on this, you don't want to give up your tourism economy, it would be suicide.

I thought to rent your property you had to have a tourist licence... if so ... whatever governance hands out the licences is to blame... giving licences in areas for normal Spanish to live should have been a big NO.
