I handed a joint of some Afghani to George Thorogood at a concert in 1978 he was playing at as he stood on stage in front of me playing his guitar , he took a hit did a backwards flip came back up without missing a beat handed the joint back to me . I motion'd to him to pass it to the rest of his band , so he said we'er taking a short break and he left the stage when the song was over of coarse about maybe 10 minutes later they came back out on stage and said this ones for Oregon " THE GREEN STATE " came back over to me while playing his guitar and passed what was left of the joint which was a little over a quarter of it and gave me a nod with a big grin . George is a really cool dude .

Here's a little bit of something to listen for: At about 14:20, when he starts naming off what he's listening to on the jukebox, the licks that Elvin Bishop is playing are actually in the styles of the people he's naming off. It just goes to show how good that guy is on guitar.

He’s sweating so much because being under those lights is hot. And the “story” part is part of the song, I’d suggest listening to the album version, as he customized the song for the location here and I assume other live shows, so you can hear what it’s supposed to sound like.

Agreeing with Brian, modern stage lights are different, especially since LED tech came around. Stage lights between the 60's to the mid 90's were crazy hot, so there were a lot of sweaty musicians. Now that doesn't mean it wasn't a booze and drug filled bonanza (it was), just that it was usually the venue making them sweat, not the coke lol

I had the pleasure of seeing him decades ago. It was really kind of strange because unlike most rock bands he didn't have any of those mind blowing songs like Free Bird or Stairway to Heaven, you know what I mean. But he and his band had more fun than I had ever seen a band have. And it carried over to the audience. I also heard several interviews with him on a local radio station and he always came off as very humble.

Mr. Video! George is a bad ass in R&R! George invented rap that don’t rhyme. He started in early 70s. Very heavily guitar jive boogie style. Kind of tongue in cheek lyrics. Great concerts with a lot of drunk people. He sings a lot about drinking. In 1982 his Bad To The Bone album and singles really defined his rock identity. Just a fun guy that makes fun music. Btw... the sweating is from the lights. Above the concert stage, there is a whole city of lights and there are lighting technicians up there making sure the light are focused on the singer, or a guitar player doing a solo...etc. Now it’s preprogrammed and they have huge fans on stage to keep them cooler. I’ve been in front row, it’s hot up there. We could feel it off stage. Thank you ❤️

Talking about your life and your struggles. Music is universal and don't let anybody tell you different. It is one of the ways we can all relate by listening and trying to understand. Love it.

So the guitarist played with what's called a slide. It's usually made of brass, or glass, or ceramic, or some other metal. Its allows you to slide up and down to different notes. Popular in blues music, slide guitar is a pretty different technique than normal guitar. If you want to hear what others can do with this style, check out people like Justin Johnson, Robert Johnson, Ry Cooder, Duane Allman, as well as George Thorogood himself. He's a pretty cool slide guitarist.

This is such a great song. I always liked ole George. Considering this was the 80's, there's certainly every possibility he was on coke, but the fact that he's sweating doesn't really mean anything. Stages get really, really hot. Between the amps and the people and the lights, you're going to sweat. And that thing that looks like a socket wrench is a guitar slide.

Great as always man and to answer that question about why they sweat so much, it's because the show lights make it really hot and this was filmed in the summer to begin with. The lights are really hot, if it's 85 out it's 110 on stage.

Oh man THANK YOU for hanging with ol' Lonesome George. His band is the Delaware Destroyers -- that's who he referred to. He was alllll over the central east coast in the 80s and my friends and I partied down listening to him. He's all about the live shows -- saw him 3 or 4 times, every one lots of improv and sweaty fun. Kinda can't listen to him now since he's so boorish about women but lots of memories!!! Thanks again!!!

I'll tell you right now from being on stages many times myself you can just stand there and you will start sweating when the lights are up light that. Stage lights are very powerful and you will get hot and sweat under them. And spotlights are like being under a god damn heat lamp. I've seen many people collapse from overheating on stage for that reason.

I got to see George Thorogood and ZZ TOP at the same concert in the early 1990s. I can't wait until we can have concerts again. You look like you have a good time when you go to shows. "By this time, George is wasted." 12 shots and 6 beers will put the heaviest drinkers to sleep. It's a blues song from the fifties George and the Delaware Destroyers put a funky party spin on when they were a bar band playing 5-6 hours a night.

Your right! He didn't give a shit what people thought.. I met him in Philly the night before that show. So humble. Not a fame seeker just a guy who wanted to play guitar. Still got my backstage pass. Great memory. Thx

Used to play shows and do theater... The sweating is real and due to all the stage lights + the crowd of people producing a ton of body heat + adrenaline from performing. ❤️🎭

This band was one of the opening acts for a Rolling Stones concert I atteneded in Los Angeles along with other opening acts of J. Geils and Prince. George rocked the whole stadium and this was one of the songs he did along with Bad To The Bone. It is hot under those lights and who knows how many other songs he has already done that night. Stop being a buzz kill, let him have his drinks.

Why is he sweating.... it’s a Fourth of July concert, probably outside at some fairgrounds. Also this is a late in the show maybe even an encore song, so you are seeing him AFTER over an hour of up tempo performance

To get a true Blues sound you need a classically designed “hollow body” or “semi-acoustic “ electric guitar and those things are big and heavy. Blues played on a modern solid body electric guitar just isn’t pitched right.....
