That metal tube is called a Slide, used for Slide Guitar. They most always either made of Metal or Glass. All those guys he named, they are all old Black Blues Guitar Legends. I think this song is an old John Lee Hooker song. All those guys are the OG originals. Rock took the blues and changed the beat, lyrics and attack, but the good old basic 12 bar blues is the root. You should listen to George play this from the studio version too.

@@GonzGunner Saw him with Butterfield at the Fillmore in San Francisco, 1969. He killed it, I think he was maybe 18. He took a wild, three-chorus solo on one tune, absolutely flying, and one of the horn players had to pull him back before he started a fourth.

You never heard of slide guitar? Well you said you didn't know anything about guitar. The thing on the guy's finger is called a slide. It's a staple of blues music. But I like "Pinky Pipe," so now it has a new name. The people he's naming are all Blues Legends. You have to check them all out! Muddy Watters "I'm Your Hoochie Choochie Man" is the song he mentioned from Muddy Waters. Please react to that one. God bless you, my friend.

So I'll amplify the note that the thing on "The Bish"'s finger is called a "bottleneck" and the style is called "slide". For a masterclass in slide guitar I can point you in no better direction that Mr. Elmore James. Elmore James was an innovator with his guitar technique and influenced generations of Blues, Rock and Country artists. Country superstar Bonnie Raitt did a cover of James' "Coming Home"; Stevie Ray Vaughn does an amazing cover of his song "The Sky Is Crying". Those would be good songs for you to check into if even only for your own personal enrichment. As you've seen in the comments the names that "Lonesome George" was tossing out there are some of the most influential American musicians who have ever lived. The Rolling Stones took their name from a Muddy Waters song. Muddy Waters is one of the founding fathers of Chicago Blues. John Lee Hooker has similar status in Detroit and is considered one of the most influential Blues guitar players of all time. ZZ Top's heavily bearded guitarist Billy Gibbons (aka The Rev. Billy G) pays homage to Hooker in both his playing and his singing style. You should check out John Lee Hooker's version of "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer" just for comparison Hooker recorded his version in the mid 1960's. Thorogood would have been about 15 maybe when Hooker's record came out. I could wax poetic about the late, great B.B. King** for days but I'll keep this brief by just saying that he has so much passion and soul when he played that even the spaces between notes could say more than some rock & roll 'shredders' could say in a lifetime. "The Thrill Is Gone" is one of those songs that any music fan should listen to at least once in their lives. The song "When Love Comes To Town" by B.B. and the Irish rockers U2 (written by Bono especially for B.B. King) is an absolute banger and a half! I'm listening to it as I'm typing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/imKqfXd9nrF4asU I love the story of how B.B. came to call his guitar "Lucille" and in the 80's the Gibson guitar company issued a B.B. King "Lucille" model based on his customized personal guitar, Hey, just out of curiosity what does "LFR" stand for? . (**shorthand for his nickname "Beale St. Blues Boy" from when he was working at a Memphis radio station, his real first name was Riley)

Respectfully, you gotta get caught up. That's a chrome slide on his finger and it is required to play "Slide" guitar. They are frequently made from beer bottle necks and it was invented by black folks down in the Mississippi Delta. They would literally drive nails into the wall of their shack, out under the porch, and wrap some wire around them and stretch them out, twist 'em, make 'em tight, and then rub on them with their pocket knife while they sang and plucked the wire. THAT sh*t needs to find it's way into "Black History Month". All the people he shouted out to were black "Bluesmen" that we white folk are still tryin' to learn to emulate (or appropriate, depending on your politics)
