@@AverageConsumer-uj8sm An aperture between the light and the paper that's translucent instead of black could help affect the brightness. Especially of on the outside there is a very thin black film over the blue paper eye. Meaning internal light is required for the blue to be visible, but barely any at that. I'd try the test myself but I have no real knowledge on the electronics or side of things. I can deal with mechanical stuff or post processing, but I just could not learn much in my required ECE classes.

Absolutely fantastic! It looks great! definitely put a smile on my face I will say I did prefer the digital screen for an eye more than what's in Mk III just made it look more real. the only other thing I can think of to improve the performance of Wheatly would be to make his body able to pivot on the pole he is attached to rather than being static. I think it would just add that bit more extra life to him But that's the only feedback I have I think it's absolutely gorgeous! Being a collector of life-size props I wish this was a collectible coming to market. Keep up the fantastic work!

You probably won't see this, but the way you subtly put in that sponsor was fantastic. On other youtuber's comment sections, there would be many people who talk about saying "oh their sponsor was so smooth!" And when I went to check it often wasn't very smooth. Yours, however, takes my personal record list. Out of the near-millions of videos I've watched, you are the record breaker for just how creamy smooth your sponsor was. The only reason I noticed it was because of how smooth it was.

I've been thinking for a while that coming up with a way to convert the animation data from a 3D animation tool into servo controls would be a brilliant way to achieve more natural movement in animatronics, since it's ultimately all slides and pivots in both cases but animators are able to create movement that feels more natural.

THIS IS THE COOLEST THING I'VE SEEN IN MY LIFE!!! Sir, you have my infinite respect! Your attention to detail seems to go largely unnoticed by folks in the comments, which is a shame. You have managed to capture the most important part of Wheatley's design, which is the emoting! The genius design of this robot allows for incredibly smooth, quick, and game-accurate motion that I thought would never be realized in the real world. I cannot tell you how much joy it brings me that my favorite childhood robot, deemed to be impossible to recreate, has been made real. Like, it is just bonkers how much motion it has! I was thinking the same idea, but for Wheatley. I was thinking if there is a Portal themed attraction somewhere, there can be an animatronic of Wheatley who can talk and reply back to guests, and there would be someone hidden away doing Wheatley’s voice and controlling his movements just like donkey in universal studios. I don’t care how much it costs I want to go to that attraction and talk to Wheatley!!!!!!!

Man, it's amazing that he can flip his eye around 360 degrees like in the game. Crazy. Absolutely astonishing. Love how his eye flashes as it does when he talks in the game.

Amazing. I think it could use rotation about the thing it is mounted on - in some of the animations from the game, you get "nodding" expressions and I think that could really improve the animations!

Woooaaahh, this is so cool!! Wheatley is one of my favorite characters and it's awesome to see him brought to life like this! I know his crazy range of motion in the game is not in any way realistic, but you managed to get so close to that, that's crazy! I could totally see this used in like a high budget movie, the quality is so good! I really love the aperture shutter on his eye, that just adds so much to his expressions, and your puppeteering skills are great, he feels so alive, haha, I love this

What happened to animatronic Glados? You probably said the reasons why you might not work on it for a while or never work on it ever again in an older video but I’m curious, What happened to the older prototype?

Good thinking simplifying the eye. I’d recommend having the colour and the mask on separate layers to reduce light bleeding through the black.

Perhaps the aperture laboratory and testing facilities made a better place for sound like in the games, compared to some guys house?

I'm just gonna say it now. Imagine how amazing of a use case this would be for AI. Weathley is literally an AI, and if you had enough processing power at home and knew how to train a model on how Weathley expresses himself non-verbally, how he puts words into speach and how to translate that to the individual modules, you could make yourself a real Weathley home AI. This stuff is possible today!

I don't know how difficult this could be, but it could be possible to have ChatGPT or a similar AI text program control Wheatley by putting movement commands like "suprised" or "angry" (which would prompt preprogrammed movements) before lines of text that would be fed into an AI voice generator. This way, Wheatley might be able to respond to you talking to him in real time! Just an idea, love the build!

This is the most accurate looking one you've done! I love the motors making the hiss when they move, gives it all just that detail aswell and brings it so much closer to feeling the way he does in Portal (I know they just make the sounds but it just feels too satisfying to hear em and not comment on em)

Holy crap, this has really come a long way since the first iteration. I never would have imagined the speed and level of precision in movement you achieved with Mk. III, it's honestly mind-blowing. Throughout this series though I've been curious about your decision to exclusively puppet Wheatley manually, instead of programming the servos to play a set animation. It certainly brings some life to his expressions, but I imagine there is a limitation to juggling all 11 servos in real time, so I've always wondered if he's missing out on his full potential. I'd love to hear your thoughts on this, but regardless, congrats on this amazing build.
