I really wish some of those privacy OS would organize and pool their resource into one big force rather than be splintered across dozens of version. You got Lineage OS, Graphene OS, Pine OS, Pure OS, Lune OS, Postmarket OS, Sailfish OS Kai OS and now Calyx OS (plus all the dead ones Firefox OS). All great privacy focused OS. all have fairly low adoption rates and very limited selection of supported devices, sure some of them are android and some are pure Linux which is probably an unbridgeable divide but even if only the android ones unite I am sure they'd be able to put up a much more serious competition to google.

For specific devices, there's postmarketOS, which is a Linux distro for mobile devices, with a variety of user interfaces. That said, it is very hard to port to, because all of the drivers for the cameras, modem, WiFi/BT chip have to be either open-source or be developed from scratch. For devices which are full of proprietary drivers, Ubuntu Touch is significantly easier to port to, mainly because it can run on the stock Android kernel, and use its drivers. If by any chance that is difficult, porting LineageOS is easier because you can use the stock drivers for the device.

I see this as a hit and miss at the same time due to about 80% of saved data like Samsung locks or even certain saved passwords and not logging into an account is definitely different for people to get used to again as a boost sales rep (descent one) I'd say they're way ahead of their time. I still pray this launches to make my job 5× easier right but honestly it's definitely going to be hard to navigate for those people who have years of experience with the basic android system and Google services,again not wishing bad on the company because I believe if one eats everyone eats. 🙏 praying for their success 🙌

I think Huawei should us Calxy OS instead of Harmony OS as it will be almost similar as Android and they also use the privacy feature in advertising to encourage more people buying their phones. This may regain them their old or new customers who are looking more a privacy phone and who had bought a Huawei phone in past in just a couple of years.

Huawei is run by the Chinese Communist Party, any advertised “privacy feature” is a trick. I can guarantee that a Huawei phone has much more telemetry being sent than any other Google or Apple phone.

I'd be curious to know what is involved in porting this over to other devices the way LineageOS does; given some of the recent moves by Apple, etc. I can see this becoming more and more popular an option particularly for those working in commercially sensitive fields, having privacy concerns for their own personal wellbeing, etc.
@skywz3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically I would assume you could, but it would be worse than the Pixel versions most likely, due to a) not having the backing of a dedicated entity to provide confidence in longevity and b) pretty much every other modern phone requiring the boot loader to be unlocked before installing another OS, which the Pixels do not. Ironically, Google phones are the easiest phones to de-Google

@@davocc2405 I have no answers. You need the drivers for that devices combination of hardware, installed into OS, Almost all the mobile processors are based on ARM and its standards so the software should work (probably they have interoperative layers before the software execution level for that) and a software package that runs all the hardware like one that handles NFC, the cellular radio and dialing, camera, sensors, etc. then package it up as a ROM to be installed on the device. Knowing how to and how to do it on Android's Linux base... that is where the work comes in and why not every joe and jane average is doing it.
