Holy shit well played by Antonson, he had Momota figured out it seemed. Just couldnt keep it up. Momota has some work to do :) Very nice game and great commentary as always!

Antonsen gave the biggest challenge to Momota in this tournament. Even the only opponent who managed to drag him to the 3rd set. Nice Denmark (and Japan)!

This match proves Momota well deserved his World Champion title. Momota had tremendous pressure as Antonsen managed to execute the strategies well without many mistakes especially in first set. But, look at how Momota made a comeback here despite so much study done on Momota by the coach and perhaps Antonsen. It will be interesting to see if Antonsen can maintain this consistency. Throughout the whole WC, Momota seemed very exhausted and lacked of the power in his smashes which was why first two sets, Antonsen defenses weren’t penetrated. Once Momota further develops his physical strength like the Young LD, he will be even more lethal.

Danish tactic worked because Momota injured himself and couldn't jump smash, however his fitness still prevailed. Incredibly recovery during the tournament absolutely stomping everyone else he played.

I think what made Antonson great was that he was able to keep calm when faced with more experienced, world-recognized opponent like Kento. Therefore, he could play very steadily, neither too conservative nor too aggressive, in which case, his techniques could be fully taken advantage of. And that is, on the other hand, what Yuqi Shi lacked when played against Kento.

Very impressive by both players.. Antonsens first half of the match was excellent tactically. Very accurate and very smart speed changes. Of course he used back court in a good way as well but the variation in pace was the key for me. That said, Momota will be very difficult to beat. He is very complete and it’s very difficult to keep Antonsens tactic up for 3 games since it requires a lot of endurance, both mentally and physically.
@SuperSasaboy6 жыл бұрын
Erik yeah agree with you. in the 1st match Antonsen dictate the pace of the match while Momota to me look a little bit passive and just following Antonsen direction. it a good tactic to beat Momota, just like what LCW done in the Celcom Axiata Open. however for me this tactic is kind a risky since the player need to spend a lot of energy and resourcess and against someone like Momota who have a very good endurance they bound to lose if they cant win the game in 2 match. just look at the previous match when Momota palying against Ginting and Srikand. both of them win the first match but lose the 2nd match and by the time they need to play for the 3rd match these player start to become tired, lethargic and make easy mistake. even LCW said that if Momota win the 2nd match, then LCW itself feel certain that he will lose to Momota.
@TheSportfane6 жыл бұрын
SuperSasaboy Agreed. But that also tells us that no one really believes they can beat Momota going for too much right now. He is just too consistent and strong defensively to beat him playing aggressively. Antonsen’s endurance wasn’t enough this time but he made it the right way and will probably get more chances in the future to make it even better.

Erik but i kind a uncertain if he can beat Momota when they meet again. Of course Antonsen will use the same tactic but since Momota already experience Antonsen tactic, he will tried everything to disrupt Antonsen pace by becoming more agressive and dictating the pace of the match from the beginning. there is no way Momota and the Japanese coaching team will allowed him to fall under the same tactic twice. For me, i think not only the Denmark coach but also the coach from other country knows that Antonsen and LCW tactic is the best way to defeat Momota is just that it is to risky for their player to used it since they know in term of stamina and endurance, Momota i believed is the best in the world.

AgnesL I believe, it is not enough that the Danish coach "has a plan"?!. Viktor Axelsen simply has a difficult time with the playing-style of Kento Momota. I guess all players have certain opponents, they would rather not meet in tournaments?!!
@ChyeHeng176 жыл бұрын
Having the strategy doesn’t mean you can execute it at the right timing. And also, it’s all about consistency. Momota is one of the most consistent in year 2018. Rarely you see Momota made simple mistakes. And he’s good at adapting strategies.

definitely!!! even lin dan from 2014-2015 would beat momota..but I think today's lin dan vs momota would be interesting cause they have a kind of similiar playing style, more like passive and observant style.. former lin dan was way more aggressive and agile.. simply hungrier
