This show taps into something that is unique about the Marvel cinematic universe and is rarely explored. The superheroes are celebrities. They take selfies, sign autographs, people get tattoos of them [IM 3 clip]. So now we have Kamala khan, who is the best representation of a marvel fan on screen. She’s one of us. She cosplays, makes youtube videos, and is a total dork.
This show is going to be a lot of fun.
The opening song is blinding lights by the weekend. The lyrics of the song are about a guy who is missing the person he loves, and seeing the lights of the city makes him feel more alone. He’s surrounded by people, yet he’s alone. This is how Kamala feels all the time. She sees the lights of Manhattan across the Hudson, that home of the heroes, and wishes she could be one of them. But instead she lives here in jersey city [map to show people where it is]
Another way to put it is that she’s blinded by the shining light of her love for superheroes and can’t focus on her current life problems.
The marvel logo has become a stop motion animation she’s made. IN the comics, she writes captain marvel fanfiction under the name sloth baby, and this hobby has been brilliantly reimagined for the moving pictures. Right now she onl;y has 2 subscribers, but in the real world she would have doubled the size of lesser channels like heavy spoilers by now.
This kind of stop motion art project is very similar to the ending credits of the spider-man home movies, which are always visualized as something that a kid could make or draw in study hall.
She recreated the battle at the end of endgame which remains the most important event in phase 4. Nearly every movie or show has been dealing with the repercussions of that movie-and rightly so, like several billion people rematerialized. It;s a big deal.
A few details that we noticed in this opening. Thor has the beard and guu, just like in endgame, Stve rogers goes into battle with a shield that has not been broken. Which makes me think that the public is unaware the shield was shattered, and that the one donated to the Smithsonian is the original shield.
Hawkeye is furing thumbtacks, while wearing the purple suit from his show. Which makes me think that this takes place after the fight at 30 rock, and that the kids really dug his new threads. We also see Valkyrie, who is probably a little more famous because she's the head of state of asgard. In this battle against Thanos you can see that she gave priority placement to female heroes like Scarlet Witch, Okoye, and Pepper Potts in her rescue armor.
[girls get it done from the boys]
We also see this cockatoo, probably a nod to her arch enemy in the comics.
Doug: Who's that?
It’s a mutated Cockatoo with the brain of Thomas edison.
Doug: Okay then.
We also see the F-16 that Carol flew in the movie Captain marvel. I’ve been wondering how so many events of these movies are public knowledge in the MCU, like we see here [wandavision, talk about carol and thanos].
And now we know. It’s because scott land interviews the heroes ona podcast called big little me, by this powered life-a spin on this american life. Notice another one of her videos is about ant-man and the wasp having a romantic vacation in paris.
Then Kamala says this: {I think Thor is secretly a game]. Which he totally is! We saw this in endgame [clip]
I love this opening, because it takes the cosmic scale events in endgame and it places them in a context that regular people can understand. But also, it shows that she is an adorkable geek with a vivid imagination. And eventually, she’ll be able to use her artistic skills to create some badass weapons with her new powers.

I think that Grant Gustin would play a great Mr Fantastic, if the MCU Mr Fantastic is inspired by the original comics version. Just watch Flash season 8 episode 16 The Curious Case Of Bartholomew Alan.

I am soooo glad that you talked about that mirror scene. I have never related more to a character than in that moment. The way she looks at herself, pulling down the top, covering it with the scarf. That mix of kind of anger and shame I guess that this top, a normal top not a crop top, will still invite comments and looks from mom or aunties. The top that everyone wears with no second thought is too short for you. Also, shoutout to the actress who plays her mom. Her acting is so real that it hurts my heart.

Speaking of Green Lantern, Kamala is obviously very creative and artistic, and with how her powers seem to differ from the comics in that she creates energy constructs, which is why rather than just a flat sheet of energy, like when her powers first activate earlier, it comes out as a giant hand. It somewhat reminds me of Kyle Rayner and how his ring constructs have more of an artistic flair.

Ms. Marvel, in the comics, Kamala reminds me of my daughter so much. She's always daydreaming and drawing fantasy images. I connect with the parents in this show as I just want her to be safe and find her place in the world. Except, for me, I always told her to dream big and go for it. I was sheltered when I was a kid so I tried not to shelter my daughter. It's a difficult balance. I'm really loving this show as much as I loved the comics by G Willow Wilson. We watched this show last night together as a family and we were all smiles. I look forward to seeing the rest of the series. By the way, because of the comics, I learned quite a bit about Muslim culture. Quite fascinating actually. The fact that the older women have a lot of influence on their families is relatable to me as I grew up in a hispanic family with aunties and abuelas that had quite a bit of say so.

Same here. In my case it has to do with a strict upbringing and as such I also identify and sympathize with Kamala. The Ms Marvel comics did a really good job capturing that as well.

Best part for me was when they played the song Ko Ko Korina such a classic wasn't expecting that at all. All the songs played were by Pakistani singers like Sohniye I love you by Nahid Akhtar, Eva B's song rozi played during end credits which was lit and then Riz Ahmeds song.

1:55 but she did show Cap using the broken shield just before Captain Marvel enters the fight. so it's more like people didn't know the exact details minute by minute because, you know, it wasn't like the fight was being broadcasted on youtube or anything. 8:42 Zuzu turned off the light. not Kamala.

entire plot feels like a Marvel version of "Turning Red". Both involve a young girl with an over protective mom. Both families come from very traditional families. Both girls have a different life that is different from what their parents see and expect. Both find out they have powers and there is even a conversation with the mom saying "this isnt you" when they get a glimpse of their daughter's true life

Is it possible that her Nani is an Inhuman? Also, after seeing the post-credit scene, I am thinking that Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk) or Matt Murdock (Daredevil) might help her in her cases with the authorities. Looking forward to what the series will bring. Love the graphics in this series and how it depicts a Marvel fan's fantasy.

I wouldn't be shocked if they shift the concept of the Inhumans and the mist back a few generations in the MCU to be honest. So they can still "have" it but not have to do yet another, world wide event that they'd have to reference in every property going forward.

They easily could. But instead of Terrigin mist, it's artifact triggered. So the band triggers her DNA, like they did for her grandmother. Her mom was talking about how they were daydreamers in the car before Kamala starts daydreaming again.

Helps that i played the Avengers game a while ago and got to know the Ms Marvel character.

Did they really forget to put Avenger's tower in the skyline? It's a bit odd that the most iconic point in the MCU's main earth city could have been overooked, considering how often it's been inserted into other projects.

Do you think the reason Ant Man was in the Rogers musical in Hawkeye was because of Scott’s podcast? I can totally imagine Scott portraying himself and cap as really good friends that go way back which might have given the impression to the musical writers to include Ant Man? Or it could be that on the podcast Scott talked about going back to 2012 with cap and iron man so he was technically there when the battle of NY happened? 🤔 I can also completely imagine Ant Man 3 opening with Scott making his podcast and we get hints of what information he gave to the public!

I love this show because it's so original and far from the typical mcu shows on Disney and movies. It gives us the perspective of a civilian into the marvel universe so it gives the show a but more flavor to it. But it be so crazy if this show was in 3-d lol but this show has the potential to be really great with being original and having the greatest visual effects. Great episode one. 👍

the hulk scene with dad was so relatable as a desi child. our parents wants to restrict us , but at the same time wants to live our dreams as per their convenience. obviously since they don't understand, they would end up creating a situation which they think is 100% acceptable but for us it's quite the opposite. we reject it and everyone gets hurt
