My biggest wonder was where did all the creativity go? The first episode sucked me in to a show I did not care one bit about with the cinematography and music, the comic book on screen style, but now it seems like it’s turning into _regular marvel show number 6_ with these last 2 episodes (plus the high school drama misses me but that’s prob just a “not the target audience” situation)

What really hit me this episode was…where all the style went? Remember the amazing comic drawings that would pop off the walls? Seeing her imagination run wild?! That was displayed as a key feature in plenty of the trailers, and we haven’t seen it that much since the first episode.

I'm a Pakistani, and I knew from the start that even if a huge number of cast was from the subcontinent area, there was gonna be a good load of misrepresentation, be it funny or not so funny. And the biggest thing the show sold itself was on how it was going to represent Pakistan and its culture, which is not what you sell a Marvel show on. So yeah i think the main problem is what the show basically stands for. Don't give me any representation, I'll be happy as long as i get a good series...well good luck to that😑

Fun fact. The first Marvel female Muslim superhero was a character called 'Dust' (Sooraya Qadir) created by Ethan Van Sciver, scion of ComicsGate, and Grant Morisson. This Ms Marvel was created, in part, by Sana Amanat, a Marvel executive, who obviously has a cut of the royalties every time this character is used. Something to consider when wondering why Ms Marvel is being pushed so hard.

Disney is incapable of hiring good writers. This show is the same as with Obi Wan. It would have all the potential in the world under the right care, but Disney prefers to hire the most incompetent people to do writing for them. Logic seems very loose, dialog is tiring, focus is all over the place, characters range from "ok" to "meh", action is brief and watered down.

I disagree. The series is written by the Belgian Maroccan directors duo Adil El Arbi and Billal Fallah. They made Bad Boys 3 remember and a lot of really good Belgian movies. They certainly are more than competent and capable.

I mean the whole movie kinda just happened, and a day later nobody talked about it. As for their smaller movies. I care little to no about it if the 2 of them can't put together a a TV show that barely makes it over the "passable for TV" quality. I mean, yay, good for them. They probably got a decent paycheck (hopefully), to have another mediocre project attached to their name. So if by your definition, if the show being kinda almost shit not their fault, it just means Disney found 2 dumb-asses to write whatever mediocre shit the producers came up with. The problems with this (and many other Disney+ shows) is that they are just too short. Things they build don't have time to breathe and mature, instead we're speed running thru plot points. Now, I'm not asking for a 22+ episode season, but it's clear 6 episode seasons don't work as well as 13.

Just finished watching the 5th episode of season 1. It was 37 minutes of her origin story, and let’s just say the action, that you’d expect from Marvel, was basically less than 60 seconds. Don’t know how much longer this show can hold on just relying on her origin story, with very little, to no action. I thought watching “Moon Knight” was mediocre, but this might be worse.

As someone who’s been liking the past three episodes for its small scale story, this one has lost me quite a bit. Had potential with how relatable it is for family members to travel home and visit their families. But whether it’s complicating the Clandestine plot with the Red Daggers of Exposition over the mother daughter relationship or it’s the execution of her powers and action, something feels lacking. It’s between a 5 or a 6 for me since Kamala and her mom still hold up this filler lead up to the flashback episode like Moon Knight just had.

As another reviewer said: the 6-part format is breaking this story. We should have had more time with the Djinns pretending to be good, maybe just ask KK for the bracelet (she's naive enough to do it), before trying to kill her whole family. That's now 2 episodes in a row where KK meets a new group that will 'help' her, so I expect KK to meet her greatgrandma next episode and she might help or betray KK (odds are 50/50 now!) There are just too many characters and plot in not enough episodes, which is a shame as this could be a really good series!

Certainly gives me the young adult CW type show vibes with a larger budget, which are quite popular with a certain category of audience but definitely divergent from pretty much anything else marvel has done cinematic wise. So its definitely going to put off some of the established audience Marvel has. I hope it works out like it did for Kobra Kai, the show finds its footing. To me that show also had a few rough patches they had to iron out, and mistakes they still make.

I've thought the show was decent at first, then episode 3 came and I was pleasantly surprised by how emotional it could get. Episode 4 is a huge step in the wrong direction. Kamala randomly runs off with some guy who tried to kill her? She couldn't put a automatic car into Drive, but can figure out a standard within seconds? The action was so disjointed and that chase scene was actual visual diarrhea. One episode the villians are trying to reason with Kamala, now they are just hellbent, frothing at the mouth, and unreasonable. Not to mention they've all gained the ability to teleport wherever is most convenient. With all the unnecessary hate the show was getting I was really rooting for it to be good, but the latest episode is something that'll be hard to recover from.

Daredevil S1 and S3 are both far and away better than most of what I've seen from anything on Disney+ (could just be personal preference) and Wandavision was pretty damn creative/interesting. I also really liked the topic covered by Falcon/Winter Soldier. And the cultural stuff from this show has been genuinely and thoroughly interesting. But the partition stuff isn't specifically interesting to me, really. Maybe that'll be explored more in the next episode but at least so far there's been nothing that has really intrigued me for it. What in the show do you think they did well in relation to it?

Thats why in the comics and in this show they always lead with the representation and depiction of Pakistani culture first and foremost. You could remove the superhero stuff easily from this plot and just replace it with Kamala is an aspiring comic book artist with ADHD and her traditionalist parents want her to focus more on her studies and be a more conservative Muslm and voila dont even need to be a comic book show . Because as said; the actual action is meh in this show because the focus is off. Its always been a self insert vanity project for Sana Amaanat to push identity politics because she came from a comic book company Virgin Comics that went defunct after 2 years which was specifically created by Deepak Chopra and Richard Branson of Virgin for that very same representation in comics; showcasing Indo-Aryan/Asian folklore into comics but they went under and had to go bankrupt, move from NY to LA, rebrand, and Richard sold off his assets, and with that came a lot layoffs incluing Sana Amanat, so she was scouted by Marvel after 1 year of experience and pushed to a high editoriial position because Marvel was trying to chase what Virgin started.

The issue with this show is it's plot; the style, dialog, character chemistry was what kept me interested up to the second episode and 3 and 4 have disappointed me as the positives I've mentioned can only carry and maintain my interest for so long...if this series was longer maybe I can be more open-minded with the pacing but it's really making me worry how the quality has gone down.

After this episode I really felt like they had butchered the source material, They don't understand why the ideas and scenes they are borrowing work and they utterly fail att recontextualising them into a new theme. They are just doing a much worse job at exploring the themes that were so well explored in the comics without adding anything new.

This whole episode was just weirdly edited, some times the camera was just focus on Kamala for way too long (Like when she first ate spicy food and she just blankly stares at the camera for like 2 minutes), it just felt like they forgot to put in the great edits that the first two episodes had. And can anyone explain how they broke out of that Supermax prison which was an island in the middle of nowhere, how did they get to Kamala in the same day!? And no exactly where she was while she was currently in a secret base??? Don't even get me started on those janky powers of hers, she literally only uses them as footsteps, a platform to catch herself from falling, and a ramp -_- And all of the fighting scenes just seem phoned in.. Idk I'm starting to lose interest but it's nearly over already,might as well finish it. The episode was a easy 3/10 for me

I can forgive the unoriginality of her move-set because she doesn't exactly know how to use her powers- she's still figuring it all out. I'd imagine it would be real tough coming up with new moves on the fly with such little time to train and figure out what her threshold is, afterall it's only been a few days and it probably took her a day or 2 just figure out how to make and sustain those platforms. I still don't like the "hard-light" powers she has though, I feel like her comic book powers would have been a better stylistic choice.

I know. On the opposite spectrum, this season (season 4) of Stranger Things is 9 episodes with many of the episodes being over an hour long, with episode 9 being almost 2.5 hrs long (to be fair, they could've trimmed the fat on that one to get it closer to 2 hrs). Also, none of the episodes were full on filler ones. Even the first two episodes still had quite a bit to further the story lines, and the full on story focused episodes had bits of filler just to mix it up. Disney seriously needs to take a page out of the Duffer brothers' book.

My issue with this show is simple: it's 80% shoving random cultural shit down everyones throats, and 20% plot. I don't mind a cultural show. I think Shang chi did a great job of bringing culture into the plot. But that's the key: into the plot. In this show, it's ten minutes of the main character wandering around a bazaar in Karachi... Ok, why? Then we had another scene where her friend wants to be elected to the board of that local mosque....what does this have to do with anything? Then we had another scene where we got a history lesson about the British colonizers...... For what purpose? The show runner of the boys said it best when he explained that he won't be over the top just for the sake of being over the top. It has to tie into the plot. This show needs that mentality BADLY.

I feel at odds on this episode cuz on an objective lvl this episode doesn’t work, from the weirdly out of focus fight scenes, to the sudden appearance of the red dagger, and introducing a bunch a new characters. But on a purely subjective lvl I think I enjoyed this episode the most, learning about partition, going to your parents country of birth it works for me because it’s very similar to my experiences as a second generation American going back to my family’s roots. The episode oddly encapsulated that with the cousins, it’s like your in a place you don’t know with ppl who are your family but are still strangers to you. To us of course we don’t know shit about these guys their literally strangers to kamala too(they might’ve talked on the phone or whatever but it’s not like she’s living with them). Like this episode hits hard for me cuz it really is like that when you go back to the place of your roots, it’s a completely different world but you sorta feel like you should know it more intimately( compounded by Kamala’s grandmother who tells her a buncha stories about her family). As corny as it sounds it’s like discovering a different side of yourself. So for me even if some aspects of the episode don’t entirely land it still got to me. Straight up made me emotional at parts

I tried, guys, I did try to watch this and check it out. I couldn't get through but about half the first episode. It just didn't hit for me. I didn't much like the Captain Marvel film, too, so maybe that's why this didn't quite hit for me. I thought the story was ok, initially. Young person wanting to be into all that stuff, wanting to go to the con, being a bit of an outcast...all that is fine. I dunno. I love superhero stuff, sci-fi, Star Trek, Star Wars, etc. It's just that I don't like where all these things are going. But, I really do love your reviews and content stuff.
