I do really appreciate the question. But I can’t get behind how Raven was seemingly shaming going no contact with abusive people in this generation though. Whether you go no contact (which going no contact & forgiveness is not mutually exclusive) or whether you forgive & keep contact. Either way, you are protecting yourself.

My niece is gay. She came and visited me and said “ aunt Jackie I got something to tell you”. Then she paused. And I thinking something was wrong said “ child spit it out”. She said “I’m gay!” I said Chile I thought something was really wrong I already knew that. She lit up in excitement and said “ For real why you didn’t tell me I was scared you would get mad!” I responded chile that doesn’t change how I love you and feel about you. It’s your choice. I was waiting on you to get comfortable and say it. I was not going to push you into anything you were not ready for. Then I hugged her. So many LGBQT+ ( forgive me if the letters are wrong) have so many people judging them. Listen It’s our job to love people and help them love themselves and their lives. I enjoyed the episode. I love that Mrs. Pat is able to tell stories, state a point, and bring laughter at the same time. You win when you are able to forgive and release the pain.

I actually liked that she shared these stories including asking the abuser who fathered her first kids to apologize and the awful things he said. Cause it shows that though you may never get the acknowledgment or apology you should from someone that did awful things to you; you can still move forward, grow, and gain control of your story and life. This was a great episode, she talks about a lot of dark things and stories comedically-which may make people uncomfortable, but at the end of the day as she mentions: it gives people the opportunity to relate and also talk about these things when they otherwise may not have been able to.

@FocalPointElisa5 ай бұрын
Forgiveness is for you, not the abuser. Using the term "playing victim" is very close to victim blaming. You can be a victim of abuse and a survivor of abuse. Just like you can express your angry and frustration for not properly being cared for, and still live a fulfilling life after harm. Point is, don't let the harm done to you keep you stuck in time. Ms. Pat sharing her story helps her do that. Hope others find ways to get their stories out.
@daniellerodgers64935 ай бұрын
@@FocalPointElisa there’s one thing to have been a victim, but if you hold onto that and look at your life NOW through the eyes of the PAST…that is “playing victim” now. At least for me.
