I don’t care if white ppl or non blk ppl want to wear braids but don’t degrade and belittle black woman for wearing braids and wigs and then go and wear them and act like u created it
@Prince_the_One3 ай бұрын
I love Raven Symone, she is my childhood, but she sounded pretty ignorant here... Everytime someone brings up the braids conversation, someone always has to say "eVerY cUltUre hAs brAidS" but Black Americans braids and hairstyles are not the same as those cultures, so that's irrelevant. Our hairstyles and culture and style and music genres are all specific to us, we created them and we get judged unfairly for them while other races can copy us and not be judged. That's the unfair part that Raven skipped over because she just wants to "All Lives Matter" the subject.
@theceech3 ай бұрын
@@Prince_the_One exactly. Like us as black ppl are not claiming to have created the concept of a braid and when ppl say 'what about vikings' i roll my eyes. We allll know the type of braid we're talking about. And u can't appropriate 'blonde' hair, there are many races including black ppl who can be born with that...

Raven girl. You are SO effing LUCKY to have found such an understanding, progressive, beautiful & caring person that not only loves her black wife, but genuinely CARES about her black experience enough to advocate for it. LOVE THAT FOR YOU! I wish for the same for myself someday… tuh! 😅

I love the way Nicole so eloquently clocked Raven’s blatant ignorance with the braids convo. Raven is my childhood so I just will always have an allegiance to her. But sis is wrong a lot and on the wrong side of history. People make fun of her marrying white but Miranda sounded more intelligent and woke than Raven here. It’s a mockery for white women to be wearing braids and calling them boxer braids but at the same time black people are being discriminated against for those hairstyles. If you’re black with braids you’re looked at as ghetto but white people are look at as unique and innovative. I will say that I never knew Raven grew up around whites and that just explains why she’s always looking for ways to disassociate herself from the black community. I do hope one day she’s able to unlearn some of her self-hate but she seems so programmed already. 😅

the braids topic... Raven, Gworl.... bffr
@ariellemayaali3 ай бұрын
The topic is hair and of course .. of all the things that can be said, raven jumps right into a controversial topic 😭 not surprised. I also agree with people doing whatever with their hair.. as long as you don’t belittle black woman for it… but idk raven always gave me this pandering vibe. It’s wild how Miranda seems to have more sense when it comes to racial topics but still I can’t even imagine the conversations behind the scenes. It seems less like an open minded discussion and more anti black every time she speaks on certain topics..
@CosmicJournee3 ай бұрын
Raven has issues with the black community because they have sort of disowned her so I feel like she just likes to double down on being “different”. Like she fully understands why black people have an issue with the braids/hair but she’s just not gonna ever be agreeing with the people who she feels ostracized by.
@ariellemayaali3 ай бұрын
@@CosmicJournee a lot of us looked at her different after that “I’m not African American” comment. (Which I kinda understand where she was coming from). I think Raven is perfectly with a white woman and unfortunately her wife has a more nuanced perspective than her. 😅 She’s missing the key point that black hair is still legally condemned. It’s not a closed issue. Mentioning other cultures use of braids and locs is a weak standpoint. Black bodies and specifically black hair are under relentless scrutiny and will be with racism being profitable. Black hair does not have the option of ease once “off the clock”. Black hair is perpetually policed. When anti-blackness is not the undercurrent for all cultures then we’ll talk but for now read a book plzzzzz.

thank you! i was so grateful that Miranda was more aware than Raven on the discussion and why as well as Nicole speaking up. It surprised me that Raven was aware of the BoDerrick issue but not the fact that it was a problem because they tried to call the braids that and not the name that generations of black Americans have been using and calling. Which, I think it was Nicole who brought up the Kim K issue that was repeating.

Ravens hair perspective is clearly just based off the fact that her wife couldn't wear braids WITHOUT feedback. Not that she couldn't wear them, folks just had shit to say. I get wanting to protect your partner(I'm also in a mixed marriage) , however she seems to have lost the ability to fully understand the historical,social and political weight black hair carries for us. Saying that's everyone was wearing cornrows etc erases alot of the historical reasons for US wearing them in this country. Im so sick of the vikings argument.

I don’t think she’s allergic to black pride but more so isn’t afraid to call out some of its questionable traits. Like a son who will stick up for his mom when she’s in the wrong in public but as soon as he’s in the car with her he tells her how wrong she is and why. Raven seems like she’d call out the bad behavior IN public but will still go to bat for the person. I think that’s healthy.

The entire cultural appropriation topic is so big and complicated. Right now I feel like a lot of people cannot voice their opinion because is not the PC thing to say. I am a hispanic woman born in Colombia and raised in the US so I include myself in a “minority” group. I fully understand that there are serious and grave issues that need to be addressed and talked about but I also believe that in some cases, too much is just too much and a lot of the time, the real issues get left behind extremist rhetoric. A perfect example is what PETA did to the animal rights movement. We need to have respectful, honest and sincere conversations acknowledging the issues and the barriers but also allowing for respectful discourse. I watched a video of people on the street being asked what their opinion was on a white woman wearing a sombrero. The only people who thought that was offensive and insensitive were white people.
