Seems the defence, if they get their act together, will get an expert witness to suggest she she suffered drug induced psychosis from smoking Marijuana the day before, that possibly interacted with her medication that was changed a week before to Lexapro (an ssri that banned in adolescents in most countries except the US because of suicide and aggression). It appears that due to this brief psychotic disorder the defence will argue that she didn't recognise her mother, though she was an intruder and shot her. She then texted a friend asking hef if she could come over to see a dead body, note she didn't say "mother". She texted to find out when her father was arriving home, and shot him as she once again didn't recognise him. She ran way screaming in fear.

So was she on or off her meds when she did this? I've heard different answers to this. If she was on her meds, how does one just snap one day, murder her mother, attempt to murder her step dad, and then calls a friend to come see her mother's dead body? Her stepdad has said a few times that he has never witnessed her acting strange like that before and she pretty much got along well with her mom and was basically a good kid and excelled in school, and that neither of them ever feared Carly before this, he stated that everything that morning seemed normal. It all seems a little premeditated, texting her stepdad, asking when he will be home, telling her friend she's got 3 bullets left for her stepdad. On the flip side, if she was off her meds, and she gets acquitted, what happens the next time she goes off her meds? I agree that a lot of those drugs have different side effects, but do they make someone snap suddenly? There is the supposed "secret" boyfriend, was she mad at her mom for not letting her see him, so many different angles to this one. No matter what, a 14 year old knows that killing someone is wrong. What about now, as she sits in the courtroom, is she back on meds, she sees very calm. Not to make light of anyone with legit mental illness, but the mental illness defense seems like it is becoming more of an excuse for bad behavior lately, Being high on recreational drugs is no reason to get away with murder either. Watching that video from inside the home today was like watching one of the Paranormal Activity movies, the way she just goes about her day after killing her mom is very disturbing.

Are they going to go for the Reefer madness defense ? Old folks like me can remember that stupid movie being shown in schools. The kids were fine then they smoke a couple of joints and out came the axes and other weapons and the killing started. They also said if you smoked pot it would be as little as one day later that you would jump to heroin all so funny . I had a brother who looked and dressed just like the poster I had on my wall showing a nerd. That guy bought into that movie and the tale of how just one day later a pot smoker would start shooting up drugs.

The judge is not going to be getting along with the lady defense attorney because shes too argumentive and not in a good way that benefits the child. Shes very caddy and disrespectful! And thats not going to go over well with the jury.
