MSD 6AL INTALL ON A 22R

Hey 84yoder - I wanted to say thank you for this upload. You are still the only person on all of YT to explain how to do this for a 22r motor. I am planning on doing this to my 22r which is in a 1975 Toyota Celica GT. This video will help me mega tons when I do, so hats off and kudos to you good sir!!!

Great video man you are a legend... Also had a question if you have a stock tach was wondering if you can use the same MSD tach output wire and connect to the OEM input wire

@@drishy94303 thank you. An I’m not sure. I believe if I remember right not 100% sure but u have to have a tach adapter. Msd sells one but don’t remember the part number

And do you have to run your factory tack to that box in order for it to work?????

Is there a difference if is a 22RE? and I have an after market tach.

Jasson Aldana it should be the same but if you want to keep the factory ignitor then you will have to buy the msd tach adapter bit if you do it like i did you should be fine just hook your tach wire to the tach signal on the side of the box

So I have a87 22re and no aftermarket tack ...do I still use the same method???? Is says I have to get some msd resister to get 12volts to the box and fuel injection system but your video pretty much just showed me how to bypass that correct?

I’m not 💯sure I have never installed one on a re. All mine were carb. But I’m sure someone has done it. I know I have to have a msd tach adapter for the re but idk what it does or for.

Hey! Very helpyful video just wanted to know if you need tachometer, and if so where do you hook up that one wire that comes out of the msd the box which I believe is the green wire you said?

Yes correct an I had an after market tach. But u do not have to have one

What u mean. If u look online u can find the diagram on which loop to cut for how many cylinders

I have the MSD 6420 and have no power coming out of the red wire to coil . Any ideas you can help with ? Thanks

The little red wire on my was 12v switched power so when u turn the key on it sends power to the box

It was the comp magnum 280s .455 lift 283 duration 110 lsa. I got rid of the truck about a year an a half ago it was a good improvement compared to the stock one

I do not unless u can fine the factory tach signal wire. But if you have a fuel injected 22re u have to run a tach adapter an everything should work right

I got my box hooked up and it started yesterday and this morning then I hooked everything up with actual connectors and I’m not getting a signal from my distributor to my msd box. Any ideas?

monsterman866 may try to swap the wires or check power or ground wires

agie Bautista on the efi it should hook up the same way but not 100% positive. As long as all your wires are right. And all of your power and ground wires are hooked up on the box itself it should work

Someone did this to my 22r with a fastball igniter but the rewired into the distributor with 3 wires

I think u said it reversed, green goes to negative (white) and purple/violet goes to positive (red)

I don’t think I did. Mine ran perfectly fine hooked up this way. Some of them may be different but this one was fine

@@84yoder yeah i agree there's not much info out there. i based my information on this pdf www.jegs.com/InstallationInstructions/100/121/121-6425.pdf on page 4 the color codes say "The Violet wire is positive (+) and the Green wire is negative (-). When these wires are used, the White wire is not"

@@ninja_slothsracer right. White wire is for points which these trucks never had so u use the other 2 wires. It took some time. I hooked it up an it worked so I left it alone. Toyota wiring can be complicated cause everything passes theu something else

Your talking about the msd 6al-2.. same installation

6al-2 comes with a 2 step..the 6al-2 box is $50-$60 more than this 6al.. to add a 2 step to this 6al the 2 step costs around $90-$100.
