Ignition performance - Its the key to getting the most horsepower and reliability out of your engine. Modern engine designs have done away with the venerable distributor in favor of distributor-less ignition systems. To help bridge the gap, MSD’s Direct Ignition System adapts V8 engines designed to operate with a distributor to a Coil-Per-Plug system. MSD’s DIS conversion kit allows you to take advantage of the finer levels of ignition control helping you increase power output, improve consistency and reliability.

Basically coilpacks for an old engine. What I've been wanting to do to my 460 project work truck for quite some time. Better combustion, possibly better sound as well.

Do you have a kit for the traditional pontiacs 350-400-455’s ? Or how can it be adapted ?

This is exactly what I’ve been waiting for! My problem is, they thought of everything except when it comes to mounting, you’re on your own! This is where MSD is unable to relate to the consumer. Plus it’s an opportunity for them to make even more money; I would buy the valve covers to fit this system.

@@basketballcory2 that’s the whole point of my comment, I don’t want to build stuff for an ignition system that I’ve already paid $1250.00 for. Sure I have the skills, materials, and tools but I don’t want to spend the time to fabricate something that msd could make and it would look better and allow me more time to work on the fifty other things I have to do to my truck. Think of it like you bought a house but the foundation is not available and you have to build it yourself.

@@aldente3585 ever hear of a manufactured house? but you have to also remember everyone wants something else and too many resto mods want everything hidden. you mount it the way you see fit because its your car. some people like their ignition parts on the firewall for some dumb reason. most people buying this would be paying someone else for the install anyways so its their problem in the end. but the guys that build their own cars already have a way they want them mounted so adding to the cost for a bracket that ends up in a trash can wasnt a smart move on their part so they didnt make one. personally ive really been thinking about piecing the whole thing together myself as it would be a ton cheaper. you could easily run a reluctor wheel on the flywheel or crank pulley/balancer you could use on on your cam the sky is the limit really. and basically delete the distributor as a whole. all you need in the hole for the distributor is a cap and a geared shaft to spin the oil pump. you could do a dry sump but i dont trust electric motors enough. belt driven also works but also prone to failure. but i like simple and easy to source parts as i drive my builds and i like to be able to get parts anywhere i go even if i very rarely need them its nice not having to order and wait 2-4 weeks from manufacturer only if its not on back order. get your welder out and tack a couple nuts on your valve covers and its done it was a whole lot faster than whatever crap bracket they would have sent that broke 3 weeks later and melted the coils anyways. there is no way they could sell the kit if they had to r and d every possible top end combo for fitment to produce a kit that was universal. believe me id love to live in a world that we were sold plug and play products with no hassles involved but i also do enjoy making things work the way i intended because rarely are my use cases what a product was intended for also usually a hassle using whats supplied. yeah sometimes it makes life more difficult but it also makes it alot more fun in the end result..

So I have a 455 Oldsmobile with fast ez efi 2.0 with the fast distributor. Will this work with my system? I also have e6 and e92. Is it better than that setup?

Why not get a TFI module relocation kit, much cheaper. Explorer set up works and can be converted to coil near plug also but only as a batch fire like the coil pack

yes, just use the gray tach output wire and splice to crank rpm sensing (purple wire adapter). after i installed and started for the first time the sniper cut out because it couldn't sense crank speed.

The edelbrock pro flo 4 system has its own programmable ECU and support for single coil ignition system only. Say its possible to disable ignition control in their software, could this easily be used in conjunction as a "piggyback" to run DIS?

Well-being to the camshaft via the gear and I believe it has a sensor for the crank somehow inside, but this is what I’ve been told I haven’t actually seen it

This is a LEI (low tension) ignition system, there is still a distributor...

Yeah but at low voltages the cap and rotor will last forever and you will never get cross firing or other difficult to diagnose problems.

It's a piston engine ..lol come on why do you think top fuel cars are taking the engine apart every run? Do not need to buy this stuff it's a piston engine..lol come on.. 😂 new one coming out it's a strong as a lightning ⚡ burns your plugs rite up..lol come on guys I can take a stock Mopar distributor lock it out run 9$ with stock coil..lol I done it theses guys are in business to sell new stuff same as new phones tv like a TV if it's 1080 120Hz your good!!! Rest all Bull!!$$$ next tv will be a bubble 4k 8 k come on I read the human eye can't even see in 4k ..lol my 15 year old Sony Bravia looks just fine 40 inch runs day and nite I have big new tv 4k Phillips but bought for size not 4 k..lol....be back to black and white soon .lol point is they must keep making new crap to feed the constant unessary demand for stuff you don't need
