MSFS 2020 | My Graphics Settings Explained for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 [Updated]

Ryzen 2600x rtx2070 super 16gb ram, settings for Vatsim: -Almost everything on high -LOD and Level of terrain on 60 -glascockpit refresh rate on low -worker density and vehicles almost off The last 3 things are affecting my performance by a lot, after turning those things down my frames increased from 20 to 35-45 in the a32nx cockpit.

You likely need a better CPU I am only running a i7 10700KF with a 2060super and can get away with 50 on all traffic refresh rate to medium although I think it would handle high. Both of my LOD settings on 150. 200 brings stutters and that probably needs a faster GPU.

@@BritishAvgeek Actually, I thought it looked better than the random butcher job I was doing!!...I was wondering what you thought of VR as a replacement for a bigger monitor. I am not sure I understand if VR is working enough in the sim to look at it that way. UltraWide vs VR. Can you even compare those two modes?

@@justingehrls811 not sure - you'd definitely have to have a VR headset to compare the two! I think VR would be amazing for VFR but might not be great for IFR or for long periods of time

If I may suggest, under 'accessibility', you should change ' main colour ' from ' default ' to 'tritanopia'! Not only everybody knows red is a better colour than blue, but is also so much more realistic!!!

Just a headsup for your VR plans. Im also using a 2070S but with a 5800X. I have a Rift S, but MSFS performance is VERY unsatisfactory. Very much the worst VR game I ever tested. So if you want to go that way (especially with a higher Spec goggle than mine), keep in mind that a 30Series GPU might be the only way to get VR enjoyable in MSFS

@@BritishAvgeek there are things I need to go in and adjust like draw distance. Nothing worse than flying over a town or city and watching phase in. It’s a real immersion killer. The clouds are amazing but there is this pixelated look to the at times I can’t figure out how to change.

is it bad if I have got everything on maximum and render scaling and terrain level of detail at 100? should i change some of the stuff to medium and higher my terrain level of detail?

Yeah try to see what happens - keep tweaking and changing until you have it as best as you can but anything you change, note it down so you can put it back if you need to

@@BritishAvgeek yes ofc, but you have your terrain level of detail slightly raised and all the other options slightly lower like your building trees detail and all of that, so do you think its better to have a high terrain lod and all those settings on low, or a standard lod of 100 and all those settings on ultra?

As i don't know how demanding it is for a system to stream, i can't comment on that. Maybe thats the reason for that many medium settings. As i have a similar system i have to comment anyway... Do yourself a favour and push at least the anisotropic filtering to 16x, it affects your viewing distance big big times... it is always worth to set it to max/16 -> and that opinion is not mine alone. I am flying mostly low and slow, so my perspective is maybe a different one... but you definitely missing much details of the grid... with your 3600x you are even more cpu bound, so don't expect to much from AI buildings if you are flying over densly populated areas... longterm i would get rid of that cpu and change the resolution to 1440p as you have much more visual quality as in 1080p. And the best is you can drive 1440p with your GPU and reasonable settings. Greets from munich!💙

Great to hear! I used to have a lot of the Medium settings on High but I found there was almost no difference between the two visually so left it as that as I get great graphics from the sim anyway :) Definitely love your analysis to look for tweaks so thank you!

I feel a bit of a shame you have a better GPU than me I am running a 2060super but on 3440x1440 with lot of settings Ultra some High but I am quite surprised the performance is great although the 2060super won't reach 50-60fps in most places its in the 30s-40s sometimes 50s maybe the cpu.Running it with an i7 10700KF. Overall I think the CPU plays a big role in how this sim will perform.

Yep I'm limited by my cpu significantly at the moment but not because it's not powerful enough... It's just the fact the sim won't use all the cores still. Looking forward to DX12 to see what comes from that

You can get alot more out of this card . I’m at 1440p with all high setting with clouds on ultra ..... runs fine .
