I’ve been using this app for a few weeks now helping the developer make it better and better. It’s so good, for VR and PC mode, that you have to wonder why Asobo didn’t have something like this in the sim by default. BTW, the developer is continuing to refine this and further enhancements are on the way.

I’m a convert, I didn’t think initially it would be worth the effort of running it with my 4090, but the ability to top out at 400 TLOD in VR when I’m at a few thousand feet (with the amazing views that gives) without having to then worry about it being such a resource hog when I am flying low level, makes such a difference to the flying experience.

I just tried this and I agree it is awesome! I completely agree with you that many of us, myself included get hung up on high graphics settings, and then struggle with stutters when flying low to the ground. Just as you said this eliminates that issue because the scenery looks stunning even a few hundred feet off the ground and anything lower than that where the TLOD gets pretty low. I’m not focused on the terrain anymore anyway, I’m looking at the runway, concentrating on landing with a nice smooth frame rate. Absolutely loving this. I discovered the tool a few days ago and I would say that since I mostly fly gliders close to mountains & ridges at relatively low altitude, say between 500-2500 feet AGL, I prefer to set a higher minimum LOD and also disable TLOD Min on Ground/Landing as otherwise, the tool will constantly be adjusting TLOD under 2000, thinking you are in preparation for landing. So now, it only adjusts TLOD based on current vs target FPS. Of course, it's all a matter of what and how you fly, and what kind of hardware you have too! Thanks for the review, as always! MajorDad

Just flew Heathrow to London city in 787 locked at 35 fps and was BUTTER SMOOTH !
3 ай бұрын
Yesterday, I had an interesting experience. Started up MSFS but it never was able to load due to some Xbox Live connection issues or whatever. Resulting in MSFS asking me to put in the game disc...sigh. So, quit out of MSFS and started the Xbox app to make sure I was logged on. Once successfully logged on, I started MSFS again and this time it successfully loaded. Once I was finished setting up for the flight which I always do in pancake mode, I put on my Varjo Aero and switched to VR. I immediately noticed how something just wasn't right. I got a very erratic movement when moving my head/view in the cockpit and at first, I couldn't figure out what was causing it. Since nothing changed on my system since last flight when everything was fine. Then I realized what has happened and the fix was ever so easy...when I had to quit MSFS the first time due to the connection issue, AutoFPS closed automatically with MSFS and I didn't think of this. Meaning when I started MSFS the second time, AutoFPS was not running. When I realized this, I started AutoFPS and moments later after it had some time to establish its connection to MFFS, things were back to normal again with silky smooth movements in every direction when moving my head. This was quite amazing to see actually how much of a difference this awesome tool does for the smoothness of the sim. Even with a beefy PC. Made me appreciate AutoFPS even more and now I know what to look for should it happen again 🙂

Hey Steve … Q3 4090 .. still a fan of ASW because if not ASW at 45 fps I don’t get the same butter smooth of ASW … but this app won’t be effective of course because ASW is locking fps and when it drops it’s got to be a big(ish) drop and sustained before LOD adjusted. (Even at 1% deviation). So I use the other app from this dev (DynamicLOD) which is AGL based. Happy flighting ! 😊👍

Looks like a great tool.. and for free! Will be trying it out for sure. As a suggestion and out of curiosity.. what would happen, if using the expert settings, you kept nudging the minimum TLOD up, would it eventually break whilst trying to lock 45fps? Could this potentially be useful to dial in to a higher TLOD possibly at the expense of cloud quality or vice versa?

Sorry, Medium clouds in VR is just nasty.... I can run Ultra and can accept high but anything less I wish I had the ability to control. OLOD is also important and lacking in 0.4.0 hoping to see it return thus I am keeping 3.7.1.... If you want a no fuss means to assist in 45FPS target which is beyond acceptable for VR, without doubt use this version. For the Quest 2, I do recommend Expert Settings TLOD Minimum 75 and TLOD Maximum 165..... DLSS Ultra Quality (look up how to do it with Nvidia Inspector ass best way to do it with best result) and FOV .85 will also enhance your FPS and visuals....

@@ResetXPDR Thank You for working on this.... The Min/Max on clouds would be awesome to have and separate complete profile(s) with all settings being changed depending on if monitor/vr/other situations.

@@brittanymcguire7996I'm trying to keep this app simple. There is a DynamicLOD_ResetEdition mode that provides more flexibility with custom settings.

Unrelated question: I'm done with my Reverb G2, hopping to get a better quality headset, but I'm not convinced about Bigscreen or Pimax yet... Waiting for a more reliable company to upgrade I think... That said, do you think the Quest 3 would me a nice cost effective upgrade while I wait for a better product? Do you think It wold offer a noticible difference in quality over the G2?
@VRFlightSimGuy10 ай бұрын
While the Quest 3 won't be quite as sharp in the centre, those pancake lenses are fantastic and you will love them, especially coming from the Reverb G2 with its small eye box due to Fresnel lenses. Ideally you need a decent GPU to get the most out of it. But overall, it's a superb headset (once you get a few accessories, which I have made a video about) 👍

I run a 3080Ti... Not able to use frame gen unfotunately but I get decent results with the G2. Gonna check your video! Tnx !!! @@VRFlightSimGuy

Hold on, 45 FPS? That sounds rough for VR. Does it not make you feel ill?
@VRFlightSimGuy10 ай бұрын
Half of your refresh rate FPS is key. So 90hz / 45fps, 120hz / 60hz. This wouldn't work so well in fast paced games, but for flying, it's a good compromise, otherwise you'd need to use motion reprojection.

@@VRFlightSimGuy I run at 80 but have to stick to super remote locations if I want to keep high resolution lol. I'll try half and see how goes, thanks!

TLOD at 50 is really just too low Imo. I cannot see how you can have a nice experience at such a low level.

It looks pretty good in this video at pow level don't you think? Later, you can see my TLOD goes up to 170
