Dropping in to say thank you for this video. MSFS blew my mind when i used VR, so much so that going back to "2d" was underwhelming. Even running a 5600x and 6800xt, your suggested settings have eliminated the vile stuttering and occasional flashing i was getting. Just enjoyed a lovely flight over NYC to test and I'm so pleased. VR is such hard work to make perform well without technical knowledge. I used my quest 2 occasionally for a couple of years because it was a bit boring as it is had a bunch of tech demos for games and so just recently I decided to hook up to my PC for the Steam content. It was like pulling teeth from my face to make it run moderately well with a more than capable PC. Why do i need to know what blah blah blah means to make it work well?? Appreciate the video but those VR companies need to get busy making it accessible because lets face it almost NO-ONE is using VR at this point. Software developers are clearly not having difficulties integrating the technology yet players are jumping through hoops to make it work.

Completely agree with all this. It should just. work. Not force the user to download utilities, plugins, etc. then enchant ancient prayers to try to get it to work after tweaking settings and watching 100 youtube videos on how to do it. I completely agree. Hopefully VR will keep getting traction and developers will put more focus on it in the coming years.

Really appreciate your contributions. I'm finding that I can adjust various setting with all the controlling apps -- OVRTookit, SideQuest, Oculus "stuff", etc. -- and I can get pretty good frame rates. However, what I can't get is clarity, especially for glass cockpits and their PFD, MFD and G1000/G3000. For instance that clarity in even the 208 Caravan EX us not conducive to flying. I literally have to bend so far over to get close enough to see what's in the PFD/MFD displays and the labels on the flight control panel (AP, HDG, etc.) are really blurry. One literally need to memorize by location with the buttons are for (a bit to much to ask for this senior simmer). And, taking off becomes difficult because I can't see clearly the speed tape. I wind up looking at the tape so long, or bending so close, that I actually get steered of of the runway. Do you have any comments about the clarity you get and how well you can "see" the necessary components in the cockpit? Thanks.

For me, using TAA and the native resolution on the Quest gives me great clarity. I would make sure you are using TAA and not DLSS which can cause blurry displays.

Also using 90Hz with res slider 1.2x since this seems to work well with all my VR apps. Cant wait to watch this tutorial later today. I’ve currently set up my Q2 at 80hz for Sim Racing (max. Oculus app multiplier) and in MSFS it’s running at 40hz (asw i guess) with tearing image. It’s ok-ish but not fluid as I want it to be. Let’s see… edit: thing also is, I don’t want to change settings in oculus app every time I switch between racing and flying games. Edit: amazing, just last weekend I installed openXR MS tools and OpenComposite app. Let’s see…! 😊
@vrsimpilot2 жыл бұрын
You should be ok at 80Hz, you will just need to shoot for 36fps in MSFS which would be half the refresh rate. So you may need to tweak settings a little more in MSFS and/or OpenXR Toolkit to achieve that. This way, you won't need to mess with your Oculus App settings every time you switch between applications. If you have any questions after watching my settings video, please do let me know!

Put on headset and power it on. Enable Oculus Link from the headset. 5. Take headset off. 6. Launch Oculus Debug Tool and make sure everything looks good (see the settings vid for proper settings or let me know and I'll post them here). 7. Fire up MSFS. Wait for everything to load until you are at the home screen in MSFS. Don't touch anything in MSFS. 8. Press CTRL+TAB to enter VR mode (you will get the double window in your monitor with the VR view). 9. Headset on. You should now be in MSFS VR mode. It will have that gray box asking you to press the key to center your view. I have buttons bound on my yoke and stick to do this. 10. I've only j6st discovered your channel. Subscribed. My system is pretty close to yours, but I'm just getting a little confused with the latest updates from from both NVIDIA and MFS2020.
@vrsimpilot2 жыл бұрын
Hi Julian! Thanks for the interest in the channel and, more importantly, in VR! Yes, there is a bit of confusion with all the updates coming out, so you aren't alone. The NVIDIA update allows some optimizations to be achieved using DX12 in MSFS (and some other things, as well). My recommendation - if you are now on SU10, get the latest game ready drivers from NVIDIA. You can experiment with DX12... you should, actually. But, if you have a 3080 Ti like I do, you may experience some VRAM overruns and get stutters as VRAM runs out. In this case, I recommend just going back to DX11 which runs fine. I'm not sure if Asobo is planning further optimizations to limit VRAM overruns on GPUs that don't have as much VRAM as a 3090 (or the upcoming 4000 series). Until then, if you have the latest NVIDIA drivers and get stuttering on DX12, just go back to DX11. If you can take the blurry texturing that DLSS gives, you can try that to increase frames. For me, that is a no-go. I am pretty happy running the 3080 Ti on TAA/DX11 with OpenXR toolkit. If you have a similar setup and want a baseline, check out the MSFS settings video I have up on the channel. It is what I am using to get really smooth performance out of my system using TAA and DX11. Thanks again for the interest in the channel! My goal is to get as many people as possible running smooth in VR with MSFS and/or XP12. VR is just to epic not to experience in flight sim!!

hi there.. I have what I hope is a simple question, I am very non-tekky! I have an RTX4090 / i9 13900 system running Oculus 2 (72HZ, resolution 3616 x 1840) . Re graphics settings I am running the following settings: TAA, Render Scaling 100, reprojection off, world scale 100, Nvidia latency ON, Global Rendering Quality set to Ultra. When I put the MSFS developer FPS counter I am getting drops into the 30s/40s with a little stuttering ie not completely smooth but mostly around 60FPS. When it dips down, the top part of the counter goes red and says "limited by Thread" - what can I do? I havent touched any of the GEForce settings or Oculus debug stuff yet - this Flight Sim stuff is definitely a dark art!! Would love some assistance! thanks!
@vrsimpilot Жыл бұрын
Hi! Welcome to the world of VR black magic. 🤣 Kidding (sort of). First off - I would try setting up your system like I have in the video. Your system is much more powerful than mine, so you should be getting even better performance than I do. But try using it as a baseline and then you can tweak up from there. Make sure you follow the settings for: Oculus App, MSFS, OpenXR Toolkit and the Oculus Debug Tool. I would set your Nvidia settings back to default for MSFS to start (I only have power management set to prefer max performance).

@vrsimpilot Жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks! I think your GPU would require you to set your settings a bit lower as a baseline. But I think with the right Oculus App, OXR Toolkit and MSFS settings reduced, I think you could do it. you might also consider using DLSS even though the cockpit/flight deck textures would be a bit blurry... you would still be able to achieve smooth enough VR performance.Would require a lot of experimenting and tweaking, though.

@vrsimpilot2 жыл бұрын
Hi and thanks for the question! First, yes! You can absolutely use the mouse instead of the manipulator/VR controller to interact with the sim in VR. Many people do this, in fact. Second - another yes! You can leave the link cable attached so the battery doesn't drain as fast. This is exactly how I have it set up. I purchased a powered USB3 hub to plug the Quest Link cable into because my battery was draining a little too quickly on longer flights even though I had it plugged in to a USB3 slot on my motherboard. With the USB3 powered hub, I have never come close to running out of battery on the Q2 and I have done some long flights or multiple flights/streams probably totaling 6 hours or more.
