Taog's Hangar SA315B Lama in Microsoft Flight Simulator!
Let's take a quick look at the Lama and discuss the quality and handling of this much anticipated addon. All of the interior views were captured from the VR mirror on the Varjo Aero VR headset. All exterior views were recorded from the native replay tool in MSFS.
This video is not for instruction, it is for entertainment only :)

Interesting video👍🏻.... but turn down the volume on the "back"ground music audio channel... and add a tad of volume to your voice audio channel.
@Belatu42
@Belatu42 9 ай бұрын
I enable the CC option just for that reason. I actually find that the engine noise is what drowns my voice out, and it’s much harder to normalize than the background music. Audio will always be a struggle, but I’m improving :)

Great review, have had this since launch and completely agree with you on all of it. I'm a sim pilot as opposed to an actual pilot, but I feel we're thinking along the same lines. It's great having proper helicopter reviews on KZbin from someone that knows what they're talking about 👍👍

Another enjoyable video - I like your style, and I hope you will make more of these. A question about your VR view, and I am not a VR-user yet... I'm not quite sure of the right word, but it seems your view is a little abrupt, or jumpy, or lacking in smoothness. Does this bother you in the sim? Or does the brain and the eyes compensate for it? I use TrackIR head tracking, and I am able to smooth it out a bit. Are you able to do something similar in VR? Or is it just not necessary?
@CCitis
@CCitis 9 ай бұрын
I use the sim in VR exclusively. It is smooth, as long as your system can run it in VR smoothly. That jumping you see is just the recording. VR helis are a game changer.
@Belatu42
@Belatu42 9 ай бұрын
It’s smooth when viewing it in the headset. The video also exaggerates the movement since it is zoomed in and cropped to fill the widescreen format. Videos don’t do VR any justice. You have to experience it to truly understand. It’s a game changer. It’s really like being in the cockpit.

Hi, thanks so much for your videos! I’m just starting out with helicopters in msfs and beginning to see what a steep learning curve it is. I’ve watched your videos on both the Taog’s Hanger Lama and Nemeth’s Schweitzer and like them both but am wondering which would be the easier (?!!!) for a beginner to handle. I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Best regards, Pete.

Hi Pete! Thanks for the feedback! I would start with the Lama over the Schweizer for addons. The Cabri G2 that is free with the 40th Anniversary Edition is the best place to start. Hi, thanks for your helpful thoughts and the three great training videos! I’ve started with the lama and fully realise there is a LOT of practice to be done. No problem, I’m many years retired and have time and am very happy to learn 🙂. One thing I’m finding helpful with the lama is having the antenna enabled in the EFB … it sits right in front of you and is super-helpful as a sighting aid. Thanks again and please keep the videos coming. Be well. Pete.

Since you are my reference as a real helicopter pilot, can you tell me what would be the most realistic sidestick settings for flying helicopters on MSFS? THANKS! PS: I find your music a little too loud for your calm, pleasant and relaxing voice ;-)
@Belatu42
@Belatu42 9 ай бұрын
That’s a tough question. I find that placement is what matters to me most for realism. You need to have your joystick between your legs so you can rest your arm on your leg and use fingertip control. It’s also best to remove the centering spring. @PGatcomb has a good video on control setup for short throw controllers. I use a Pro-Flight Trainer Puma 1:1 control set. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4iqmpeKZbNoa8Usi=m4Twn0eAmFms3Eh4

Bonjour! Good morning! “Too much sensitivity” in pitching is not characteristic of this helicopter, even if this stability remains delicate in reality. This phenomenon of pitch sensitivity remains for me the main fault of Taog's nevertheless excellent productions!
@Belatu42
@Belatu42 9 ай бұрын
It's much improved for me in the V1.1 version. I'm using 1:1 full size Pro-Flight Trainer Puma controls, no curves. It feels pretty good now. I need to run it through some circuits, steep and shallow approaches and some quick stops. The Alouette III feels really good in these maneuvers, I'm hoping the Lama does as well.

Cool helicopter. I've been practicing a lot in the bell 407 how do you slow flight without tilting the helicopter too far forward when you're coming into land. I struggle with that. When I tried to move to the helipad it's very difficult to control

Thanks for the feedback! It all depends on my mood when I’m editing the videos. I may do some without music if I can get a reliable setup for recording voice in realtime while I’m flying in VR.

@@Belatu42 I just like to add my comment...I would like to see your next video without music to see if there is improvement. You have a nice calm soothing voice to listen to, but the background music and the engine noise were a bit too much to hear your speaking some of the time. Since the sound of the engine is a must have, maybe give it a try without music. I realized you mentioned above that one can use the CC option, but I would rather watch you fly than read subtitle. Nevertheless, great flying as usual. Cheers!
