I found this video very informative. I appreciated you showing real life examples on how when importing your FP from Simbrief the waypoints can get messed up. Even though it looks like you made mistakes it was to show us how to correct things when something goes wrong. I find that very refreshing. Sometimes, watching these KZbin videos everyone is so perfect and you never really learn what to do when you mess up. This was a great video and keep them coming!!

im new to this, bought msfs 2 weeks ago and been training only with the salty 747 into amsterdam, i got no queit the hang off ils, im ready to go for the next step, can you do a video on a approach and landing without ils? ( it is funny, i skipped this vid first to 19:50) not knowing where you depart and where to land, but i do reconize some waypoints that i passed on my flight from aruba to amsterdam, so i know where they are)

@@TheSimPilot wel than msfs need to step up their game big time, salty is still ahead. I found a shop that sels the panels for boeing 737 and airbus 320, and somewhat payable, i got some thinking to do, stay with 747 but not with the right panels, or go 737 airbus with the right panels. 😁

Did you cycled the flight directors? That's one of the things and during climb check your speed if you're close to dusk speed AP will disconnect pitch doesn't to accelerate and re engage AP. These two are the common things I have seen.

For the most part it should be the same. FMC has changed little bit. Honestly I haven't flown the salty mod in ages and the development is very slow. Default 747 after the avionics update is better in my opinion.

It's normally the GPS position however if no position is available due to limitations of the default aircraft it's ok to use the last known position or airport coordinates.

Do you have Salty mod installed? If not you won't be able to turn the switch. Standby power switch is INOP in default 747

there is a fuel issue when you run numbers from Simbrief, i ran an Oceanic crossing yesterday 03-0402023 Melbourne YMML - Nadi NFFN and my fuel numbers were out by heaps, otherwise there was also an issue with engines 2 and 3 cutting out more than once during my flight, but i like what i am seeing from this mod so far.... I think for the salty 747 you need to match your block fuel on simbrief in the standard fuel page of msfs. If you press request it will put in what’s in the tanks as of that time. Meaning if msfs only put in 20tons it will put that in, even though simbrief says more.

This might be true, native weight and balance of MSFS is not really easy to understand and I am not sure how developers are working around fuel cvalculations. I need to re-visit 747 it's been a while and it has received some updates eversince.

@@TheSimPilot yeah I had the exact same problem as the person commenting. I requested simbrief data and it gave me way less block fuel than in the plan. Turns out I had to manually match the simbrief blockfuel in the fuel page on msfs. Maybe salty will implement a similar system to FBW etc. where you can import all the fuel and payload into an EFB.

Not sure Salty mod is not progressing well for the past year and I started using the default 747 after it was updated by working title. In my opinion the default 747 is superior to salty until PMDG releases their 747. Maybe give the default one another try.

That takeoff was of course not realistic at all as you said, but you should mention that after takeoff you should normally follow the flight directors until A/P is turned on.

That's true until AP is engaged pilot is responsible for flying and navigating. Also as far as I know AP can be engaged after passing the Thrust Reduction altitude. Though each company has different rules on when to engage AP.

Great tutorial!! I noticed you missed the 9999 on the metar. The 9999 on the metar is a reference of visibility😊 so the visibility at TNCM at the time was greater than 9999ft....so full visibility.

What is the thrust reduction altitude and do you have to reduce thrust manually? I have noticed A/T doesn't do anything until I switch it off and then back on airborne. Thank you.

Thrust reduction altitude is where you reduce the thrust from toga to climb thrust. It defaults to 1500 ft above ground in 747 if I remember correctly. A/T should do it when you're above 1500 ft AGL.

@@TheSimPilot It depends on the NADP you are flying, NADP1 is Thrust Reduction at 1000 feet Acceleration at 3000 feet, NADP 2 is climb thrust at flaps 5 accel at 1000. These are ICAO, not manufacturers logic. If you have any 744 questions feel free to PM me

Look for the switch marked with ATHR or AT can't remember but it's on the AP panel.

When I do free flight, there’s a pointer in the sky of where I need to land. When I get closer to the airport my plane is way off center from the landing . How do I fix this? I’m assuming I use my compass but not exactly sure how to read. Any help thanks.

I believe that is the marker for the airport itself not necessarily the runway. Are you trying to land visually or are you using any instrument based landing procedures?

@@TheSimPilot Im new to the game. But I'm having some trouble lining myself up to the runway. I tend to overshoot it b/c im going too fast and not lined up correctly w/ the runway. I'm using the digital marker b/c sometimes I can't see the runway from my elevation.

@@markbrunache648 I understand, lining up an airliner with runway is quite a task. Maybe try watching some videos about instrument approaches or try smaller planes first. That would be my recommendation. Or try the landing challenges to practice.

For other airplanes usually you have to configure the amount of trim according to its weight and I saw a tutorial for the 747-8 in X-plane that there is a figure for the amount of trim but I didn't see that for MSFS. Hi Peter, Salty simulations updated the 747 to separate it from default 747. If you have the latest version installed old 747 liveries are incompatible. Here is a link to all compatible liveries. You probably don't have the mod or it's not installed properly. Salty Simulations B747 mod is what makes the IRS switches operational.

There's no TOGA button in the MSFS 747. It is located behind Engine 2 and Engine 3 in the real aircraft. Maybe I forgot to mention that in the video.

@@TheSimPilot most airlines use 3&4 and then 1&2 (see also KZbin with real 747-8 's) Note also:the 747-8 has an automated starting sequence, meaning you can pull the starter switch, and then immediatly click the fuel cut off switch, you do not have to wait for the engine to spool up
