@@jamieg4254 Kovy was a frustrating enigma, but he was always one of my fave NYRs and I even rooted for the Pens once he made the move to play for them.

Esa Tikkanen was one of my favorite players. He was quite the character.

This is golden. Kovalev thought getting quadruple shifted was a good thing. Esa with his “Tikkanese” I just love listening to him talk and that infectious smile. Never forget those days in the 94 playoffs, great times and some of the best hockey I ever saw played, especially in the Devil series & Vancouver finals.

Looks like he could go out and do a 7 minute shift. Watched a video of that recently. He drew two penalties and scored a goal. Keenan should have tried to teach him a lesson more often.

Like his legendary countryman, the great Jari Kurri, Esa played BOTH ends of the ice at an elite level...both , STILL underrated to this day!!

That's a key element to what made the Tik-Gretz-Kurri line so great, gave Wayne all that space and freedom which he could utilize better than anyone

I remember ESA from his time. In Edmonton a very talented and hard working , and tough! If he wanted to shut you down you were shut down . Gretzky found that out too I remember

Yeah, I hear Gretzky was so annoyed and fed up with Tiki shadowing him, he said his favourite goal would be to score by Tiki's butt the winning goal for Canada in the Olympic final. But think he was lucky enought that when he finished in the Rangers, Tiki was on his side again, just like when Tikkanen 1st started in Oilers. Of course there were still the training games even in those teams they shared :)

Schneider wasn’t on the 94 Rangers, they got him a couple years later. That teams defense was Leetch-Beuke Zubov-Lowe Wells-Lidster (Karpovstev 7th D/alternate w Dougy)
