Lifelong Boston Bruins fan here. I lived in NYC for 20 years and had an apartment right across the street from a bar on East 89th Street, where the boys brought the Stanley Cup around 2 in the morning the night they won it. Unfortunately I was asleep but read about it later. What a great team - and a great win for the city!

It was called The Auction House. Rangers lived there in 94, I was there that night and drank from the Cup. Tikk brought the Cup in out of a cab and the NYPD had their bagpipes there. Night went until 520 am.

And on top of all the points he got that year in the playoffs, Leetch was PHENOMENAL on defense! He also would have had the record for most game winning goals that year had the Rangers not blown the 1-0 Game 7 ECF lead with 7 seconds to go!

Question: Would you rather have lost in 94 with the same team before the deadline but win a lot of Stanley Cups in the years following with the young talent or would you go through with the trades that Keenan made to win the cup in 94 but not win the Stanley Cup since then?
@amazinmets8439
@amazinmets8439 4 жыл бұрын
There's no guarantee the Rangers would have won in 94 or beyond that without those deals. Messier was getting older and teams like Colorado and Detroit were on the rise. Lemieux came back to hockey and he always gave the Rangers problems in the playoffs. It was the right time to go for it. I'm happy with the 1 cup we won. Yes, I think the Rangers could've won at least 1 more, but then again we could also have none. 94 was a magical year and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

@@billjones3497 The Rangers didn't "buy" a damn thing. The players they acquired in '94 - and just prior to - came at a premium cost. The whole "Rangers bought the Cup" in 1994 is farcical. Their two biggest stars on that team were homegrown. Three of their four Russian stars were drafted by NYR (Zubov, Kovalev, and Nemchinov), while Karpovtsev (traded from Quebec) played every game of his rookie season with the Rangers. Rangers overpayed for Anderson, Tikkanen, MacTavish, Noonan, and Matteau. Larmer, Lowe, Beukeboom, Olczyk, Healy and Wells were fair trades. Gilbert and Graves were free agent acquisitions. Obviously, the biggest player transaction between NYR and EDM was Mark Messier. Let's not forget that the player going back in that deal was Bernie Nicholls, who scored 475 goals and is considered by many to be worthy of HHOF status. Steven Rice was a top NHL prospect in 1991 but didn't fulfill his potential. Like I said, the Rangers most certainly *did not* "buy" the Stanley Cup in '94, and paid dearly for that championship for the next decade, which included seven consecutive seasons of missing the playoffs.

It took 54 years to get there with the help of the Edmonton Oilers players otherwise they would never have done it ou and forgot about their coach Glen sather

@@amazinmets8439 the truth hurts?? you lay off the drugs and ask yourself who was on the team before they won the cup and who was on that team when they won the cup and check it with the Oilers roster it was the oilers that won that cup even though they were Rangers

@@glennwolfe6056 Leetch was an Oiler? Richter? Kovalev? Larmer? All played huge roles in the Rangers winning that year amongst other players who never wore an Oiler uniform. That's such a lame thing to say. Trying to discredit a championship? You can't. Accept it. They won. Not the Oilers, the RANGERS. 1940 is dead. Get over it. Thanks.

@@amazinmets8439 I laugh right in your face you just can't accept that it was the old Oilers that won that cup your discrediting yourself you just can't believe that it actually happened did you forget about Mark Messier? Anderson and the rest of them and Glen sather the coach with out them they probably would never won but I'm glad they won doesn't matter they won cup

The 1990's theme being used here was a fantastic touch. Hope the Knicks use their 90's MSG Network theme again for a celebration someday.
