The msi claw is a huge letdown so far. Software and drivers are not the only thing msi really needs to fix. Hardware revisions maybe needed to make this worth buying in my opionion. Normally I really try to keep things positive but MSI really should have paid more attention to the finer details that gamers think about and enjoy. I really question the advisor/advisors who took part in the making of this handheld. I have always seen handheld makers love getting community feedback and sending pre release handhelds to users to get feedback on before the final product is made. I have not seen any of the usual sources have a claw prior to release which was very sus from day one.

Maybe they should have released it a few months ago before winter so we could have got more use out of it. msi seems to have just wanted some of that handheld money and saw americans addiction to buying up every handheld without question. They def just made a heater and called it a handheld,

To be honest I've tried Deck, Ally and Go. They all exhibit problems and jank and user experience issues and on that basis they don't warrant the price. The totality of this will eventually kill off the interest in these devices. They just don't have the quality or polish of a console manufacturer.

I mean the Steam Deck is not fit for purpose for games coming out right now, It can't play them well or at all in reduced settings at an acceptable level. The fact Valve still wants $400+ for it is a bit of an insult now. It should be $200 Ally or Legion can do some of these games because of their double power capability. We can moan about unoptimization etc etc but that is just a reality of PC games.@@ToGrimmToWin

Can’t really use Linux or steam os for everyone. The problem is your aaa games use anti cheat software and they aren’t compatible with Linux. Case and point - cod mw3 and tons of fps games will not launch or Open on steam deck nor any Linux. You’ll have to dual boot windows and that’s a pain. Been there before and that’s what pushed me to get my rog ally which I love and was a big step up from the steam deck in fps and latency

I just came across a Claw at my local store and held it for the first time. 2 things that I immediately noticed. First, the thumb sticks felt really good- they were tight, just the right height and felt very responsive compared to the Ally. Second, the shoulder buttons were absolutely horrible to press, not only were they mushy, but my biggest gripe was how they were actually angled. Because of this odd angle, my grip was forced into this very uncomfortable grip position in order to press the shoulder buttons properly. If I did not adjust my grip, then my fingers would be hitting the shoulder buttons at their edges, making contact with the triggers. Just the shoulder buttons alone are enough to put me off from purchasing a Claw. Sorry MSI, but i'll be sticking with my Ally for now

I'm trying to think of how the other handhelds came out to compare. They didn't have the best reviews but I believe the performance wasn't this bad at launch. I remember the complaints being about the stock front end and lack of tuning options. The performance wasn't as good and the battery still isn't amazing but this thing is just awful battery and performance. The frontend seems fine but this thing seems irredeemable. Plus nobody has faith in intel drivers. The design of this is also just a ripoff of the Ally.

The problem with famous youtubers is that they end up being biased shills towards there favorite brands and products instead of evaluating the real thing and being objective just because they are being sponsored. I trust audiophile reviewers way more than famous youtubers because famous youtubers are an extension of the companies as be influencers instead of being objective and showing constructive criticism because they are worried about not getting the prototypes and sponsorships from popular brands. Audiophile reviewers are nit picky and critical because they are more honest than so called youtuber/influencers and the audiophile reviewers on youtube call out the brands and manufacturers on there bs since they are niche similar to wine testers and car aficionados. I'm subscribed to dms and john darko which are audiophiles since they go into details and the pros and cons of whatever products and services are being shown and talked about. They even make recommendations for products that are affordable and they know that not everyone can afford more expensive and high end products but the options are there but are done in ways based on what someone can afford when they are new to the audiophile hobby.
@cppctek
@cppctek 6 ай бұрын
F a c t s ! I agree. People like LIEnus and several big guys will stay far too positive so they don’t loose sponsors. It’s a business I get it but still it’s disappointing when somethings so bad it needs to be roasted and they still spin it positive to make people wanna gamble on it. This was crazy that they didn’t even get one to the big guys though lol. I love watching smaller channels review handhelds because we do test them and point out easy stuff to improve and we’ll help the devs and the community. It’s pretty tight in the handheld space. Audiophiles are the same. I’m a car audio guy myself and I also love good audio.
@OledBurnInKing
@OledBurnInKing 6 ай бұрын
@@cppctekThere are videos that linus can be honest, for example, he mentioned that he is a share holder for frame works laptops. I really like the laptops that frame works are selling since they use standard components and are user replaceable and easy to understand. I watch mkbhd and other famous youtubers because I'm bored or because of any form of entertainment similar to a comedian to capture the attention of the audience. I have a lil bit of more experience with headphones than I am with speakers since headphones are more affordable and easier to store because speakers need places to be stored and set up properly. Where as with headphones it's closer to a speaker like experience being worn in ear, on ear or on someones head. I used to be a bass head and was heavy into bass but now I'm more into accurate and high fidelity and I enjoy playing with audio gear. It's just that being in the audiophile world can be addicting once someone goes deep into the rabbit hole of audio similar to someone that smokes alot of cigarettes and they can't stop the habit because they are already used to it and it's very difficult to get out of. I grew up collecting stuff as a kid and I'm still collecting stuff even to this day that I started to hoard stuff lol 😂.

So trying all profiles with the stock fan profile still thermally throttled. The only way to keep it cool is a strong manual fan curve. Even after reboots the stock profiles msi set is way too low. There’s probably a reason msi avoided showing temps and including a way to monitor them. My theory is They wanted the fan profile low to hook reviewers into saying that the fan noise is great and maybe they thought no one would look at temps if they didn’t include a way to see it in the overlay lol. Conspiracy maybe yes but some huge huge oversights are at play for sure and it’s prob not int even intentional but it’s quite offensive that everyone I know who has one got the same results and the same temps no matter what unless you set manual curve high

I really wanted this to be good but sadly I think steam deck oled would be the way to go for me. May I ask if you can test how well it performs on dark souls and elden ring? Thank you for doing this vid, it kinda solidified my resolve now as much as I wanted the msi handheld...

Steam deck oled is a great choice but do consider the rog ally with the z1 extreme is not much more these days. I don’t own either dark souls or elden ring so I can’t say how well they play but I don’t think they wil be very smooth. The max fps is better than the steam deck but those 1% lows and stutters you’ll feel are bad. Also the button and controls on every other handheld just feel better. 10/10 I won’t recommend the claw on any terms at this current time

@@cppctekMSI dropped the ball on this one ngl. If they went with the 8840u then I think this would have been a solid pick. Here on the south east asia side, the claw cost around 1k usd after taxes for the 1tb variant... with that amount Im gonna go for the deck OLED which is nearer on the msrp side, the rog ally is a good buy too but I want the OLED experience and Ill try doing stream play with my 4070 ti pc :D thank you for your much needed insight on the hand held space, it really does help alot sir! keep it up!

@@cppctekI bought a GPD Win 3 with Intel Iris XE graphics, even after 12 months, AAA games had graphics garble, artifacts, or lockups/crashes, Never again Intel graphics, a complete abomination. I'd like to know how many people get game bomb outs with this one, I'd certainly wouldn't rush in and purchase it, Even the price point is wrong, there's much better options available. It's a shame, competition helps to drive standards up and prices down but this device seems to be beaten in both departments.

@@cppctek MSI has nothing to do with it. Intel just isn't where AMD is in at moment. AMD is of course much more capable to create an APU because they have a stronger GPU tech with more experience in graphics drivers and Ryzen at the moment is much better at getting performance without being too hot or consume too much energy that allow AMD to create a better balanced APU. You may like Intel but right now they are on the back petal and i say that as a guy who has an i5 and bought an Arc GPU. From the moment MSI chose Intel there was no way they will getting better performance than the Ally. Your i9 in your system right now is consuming much more power and getting much hotter than any top Ryzen chip.

@@cppctek Maybe but from my experience at viewing countless reviews of handhelds and controllers what is bad most of the times is very very relative. For example you said that everything is clicky. Another reviewers actually said the triggers are mushy and have no click. Is all over the place. One guy says the directional cross is horrible, other saying is just like they like it, another saying is not great but is fine etc. So for me when it comes to buttons most consumers even after watching lots of reviews have no idea how good or bad they are. We can only know by trying ourselves because each of you reviewers like something else or get annoyed or less annoyed to a different degree. Buttons seem to be very depended on personal preference. I saw people hating controller buttons i found great and loving others i thought felt horrible etc.

Yeah it’s bad lol. I haven’t seen any Nvidia powered handhelds planned for this year or any time soon. All we’re going to get is either Intel gpu powered or amd gpu powered. The ryzen refresh chips are coming but they’ll still be using the same 780m we have now in the ally so there won’t be anymore gpu handhelds likely launch anytime soon. It does have vrr variable refresh rate so when your playing lower fps games it feels smoother they say but it doesn’t feel smooth like it should. This handheld also has the worst buttons I’ve ever seen in my life. Who did they consult on the buttons ? Fisher price ? lol. Thanks for the comment brudduh! I’ll keep an eye on something spicy that’s worth buying so stay tuned and if something pops up worth buying I’ll def make a video about it and all the thoughts I have. We gotta push these manufacturers a little to give us better stuff rather than just slapping a name on something and thinking people will buy it. Maybe last year but not this year. People are wising up and strapping the wallet down

Because we all are. Watched most every claw review and everyone’s mad because there were so many oversights that could have been avoided if msi had consulted anyone in the handheld space for opinions. They made so many questionable choices and oversights it’s unheard of for a company as large as msi to have this big of a let down. Performance wasn’t even the biggest complaint because we know drivers can improve

Yeah, I was worried it would be kind of a turd. The price point wasn't exactly impressive either. The one thing I thought it had going for it was Thunderbolt for external GPUs unlike the Ally and that GOLRAM craptastic permanent open slot called an XGU port. I only call it a permanent open slot because there doesn't appear to be anyway of making an adapter for it, and as much as I would like one of their XGU docks, no way in H**l I'm paying 2k for it. I can't help but think that Asus laid off the stupid juice for a minute and made a simpler dock with maybe an upper mid range GPU that didn't have a 4 digit price, they sell the ever-living bejesus out of them. But I'm sure that stupid juice is just too tasty for that to happen. Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I HATE that thing. I'll stop ranting now. I do adore my Ally to no end. I also picked up one of those HandheldDIY rear panels on your recommendation. I don't know how much of a difference it makes as far as cooling goes. To be honest, the temp drops I have noticed may just be due to the added thermal mass of that chonker pad they have back there. I haven't had a chance to really give it a major marathon run to see what happens over long play sessions. But it does sure look pretty. Fits every bit as good as the OEM, for sure. Love that thing. But it is a bummer they really screwed the pooch on this thing. Especially if they forgo external GPU support via Thunderbolt. Maybe if it were significantly cheaper and they really got on the BIOS/driver updates. But this isn't going to cut it with the Ally out there, even with its flaws. There's also the Deck 2 lurking somewhere down the line as well. I have a feeling this may go poof a lot sooner then they were hoping.

Agreed 100%. If they drop the price and get the performance up it maybe worth it to over look the wonky buttons but combined it has the flavor of a turd sandwich

Do you think it may have a fair chance to compete to the excellent AMD handhelds after MSI decides to update the heck out of it, that’s if?
@cppctek
@cppctek 6 ай бұрын
Performance wise there a small chance if they do a bunch of work plus intel put in work but it won’t fix how really bad those buttons feel and the fact that it’s not easy to upgrade the storage like the other handhelds. If they revise all the buttons plus that it would be a big win but that’s extremely unlikely they can get it all done without hiccups. The ally has such a better button set and triggers
@roderickmorales
@roderickmorales 6 ай бұрын
Wow that’s sad, very valid points, MSI should’ve created a better handheld package, use more premium components, and going intel as a cpu/gpu to power this thing (sorry but AMD it’s much better here) was a terrible choice, not to mention it has no easy way for upgrading the ssd. It does look nice though but this device it’s more expensive than the amd competitors, and yet the performance it’s ludicrous, it overheats, it lags, and it also shows artifacts in some games… What was MSI thinking?!!
