I've ordered the same panel as you, my current GS63VR 7RF stealth pro has a 60HZ LP156WF6-SPB1 display, good viewing angles and good contrast is about as good as it gets, the 25ms response time, 60hz refresh rate and 6 bit colours are what put me off. Definitely can't wait to get the new display!

Hey Total, Cheers for the video! It turned out to be somewhat beneficial. Around a month ago I installed a Sata SSD and the exact same 8GB crucial stick that you had in your video. The one thing that has stumped me in relation to the ram is the timings. Since they're all off my GL62M really doesn't enjoy having the second stick in and the American Megatrends BIOs doesn't allow me to fiddle around with them, What do you do to get around this problem? Thanks for your help :)

SSD is the best first upgrade you can do, it makes everything feels snappy, quick power on, etc etc, never use original windows that comes with the laptop, search "Windows 10 USB Tool" Setup a USB and install windows that way on your new drive

i am considering to upgrade my MSI GV62 8RD can i add an 120hz IPS? the screen recived some keyboard scratches and i know, i have to take care if i switch the screen for preventing scratches, but the TN panel when i work on it is horrible, i want an IPS display for my constant moving on school and switching position, and the 120hz will make it smoother and i play some older titles so i dont mind if it's a 1050ti, i want to enjoy borderlands 2, War Thunder, CoD BO2 running more than 60fps, is it a good idea to pick an IPS with 120hz or should i stay with a regular TN panel?

These laptops use standard screens, if your OG screen maxes out at 1080p 120hz then it should be using 30pin eDP. If you are worried, find a seller than offers free easy returns maybe one on prime, incase it doesnt work for you

yeah i have one of these vacuum robot sounding f'ers too.. not to mention it is heavy as shiiiit and the keys get dirt beneath them really quickly... also I dont recommend trying to overclock it because it will melt...

Just one thing, is the slight yellow tint normal in a tn display to which however the way you calibrate it, it will never go away? Try reinstalling the driver, when I first installed the screen, the profile from the previous screen was on there so it didnt look right, if yours looks good then you can just leave it as is

Do you know if there could be a 3rd hdd in this laptop? I noticed that the rdx model has the hdd placed on the motherboard where the rex model has no sata slot soldered there. If someone soldered the sata input slot as the rdx has, will it function? Both laptops use the same motherboard i think.

Try going to device manager and reinstalling the display device. This works if your device doesn't have a bios whitelist only though (i.e. Some Lenovo models)

If you installed your display driver it should automatically switch to 120. If not go-to your display settings either in windows or the gpu software and set it that way.

Yes, because then you will run in dual channel mode, which means faster data being moved in and out of memory which removes that bottleneck.

@@TotalKommando well, I’ve got the screen upgrade on the way (it’s for a dell 7577, so got the Innolux N156HHE-GA1, which is an identical screen I believe?) and also managed to get a really good deal on a refurbished stick of identical ram to the stick that’s already in there (Samsung 16gb) on eBay from a seller with high feedback. Will probably never use 32gb, but hopefully things will be feel a bit more snappy! Great video, fun to watch and has led to a nice upgrade to a 2 year old laptop too, thank you. Yes you get a nicer brighter more colorful and responsive fasy screen. It's great even if you don't get 120 fps in games. Because your desktop will be very nice to use.

It’s 30 pin. Search KZbin, amazon and eBay for n156hhe ga1. That’s the model number. I have a dell 7577 and am looking to upgrade next week. Important things are the screw locations, pin count and obviously screen size. From there it’s just making sure the seller doesn’t having a bad dead pixel return policy and making sure drivers are up to date afterwards so brightness changing works Edit: never mind, model number is different, although i don’t think it makes a difference because I saw a dell 7577 upgrade video where they put this screen on it. They correct model number to search for is in the video title

If its an M.2 SSD and its a cheap one, it may not be good to use for a system drive, and can only use it as a data drive.

1:27 Dear god I cringed so hard. I have a full desktop, but the Acer nitro 5 was on sale for $439($470) after-tax, so I got that for when I'm not home, or in bed. It was the AMD variant, and thankfully it can at least run WoW decently. The entire system was rather eh at first, but another 8GB stick helped a lot(had got the same stick as you actually). I do have an extra 840 evo laying around, but it's only 256GB. The screen that came with it is pretty awful, colors are OK, viewing angles are good, but the response time is a ridiculous 30ms. THIRTY. I'm pretty sure most TV's now are even faster than that. Hopefully, this panel doesn't come with dead pixels. I bought from an amazon fulfilled vendor so in case it does, I won't get fucked and told to piss off if it's less than 5 dead pixels.
