You go straight to the point, no BS at all. Brilliant review, thanks! Agree 100% regarding the fans spinning even when machine is close to idle. Looking for a windows alternative to my MBP13 which is dead silent in most situations. Tried at least 5 laptops now, about to give up. Why is it so hard for windows-based laptop makers to keep them completely quiet? Even the 2020 XPS 15 is so noisy.

Love your review bro. You touch all the relevant areas for me. Keyboards are so much overlooked, I dont know why. I am a heavy office user and sure to my keyboard requirements i am super stuck. Lenovo has that far left function key which serves no purpose for me. In stead it becomes problematic when hitting shortcuts in office. MSI has mushy keys n thanks to your review i now know that I can’t even switch off function key. Xps appears to be good but then for a huge price there is a risk of buying s wobbly mouse track pad. One laptop you're forgetting to compare it to is the Zenbook 15 (UX534). It's about the same price, same GPU and it has 4 core i7 instead. On my hunt for a good portable laptop with some gaming capabilities, I ended up on the prestige vs the zenbook 15 and the only reason I chose the zenbook over the msi is the lack of stock for the 1080p version of the msi prestige in my country. I think a 4K screen is too much and brings more trouble (less battery, shitty scaling with multiple monitors, multiple complications when gaming) than benefits.
@1650million5 жыл бұрын
The Zenbook is a nice machine, mainly limited for its lack of TB3, which means you cannot connect an egpu with a powerful card in it, thus limiting your chances to play demanding games with it, once you get home.
@vlt965 жыл бұрын
@@1650million yeah, the lack of TB3 and USB-C charging feels pretty cheap, as it's just not that future proof. But it really depends on the person. Personally, I have a gaming PC at home, so I only need that GTX 1650 to do some casual gaming while visiting my parents over the weekend or the holidays.
@1650million5 жыл бұрын
@@vlt96 It´s understandable, in your case, but mine is the exact opposite: I have an aging gaming computer (where I can no longer play demanding games) and I refuse to upgrade it, since I find the TB3 a much better solution, more easily upgradable, and which doesn´t force me to have my data in two separate machines. And I also love the idea of being able to recharge my laptop if I´m traveling, just by using a power brick, or even working in the middle of nowhere. The two main reasons why I don´t pick the Asus over the MSI, quite probably... :D

I've had this laptop for 2 days. It is indeed terrific and better than I thought, even regarding build quality (very little to no bend / flex). The chassis color is on the darker side (I was worrying it would be a lite, plastic-like metal but it is not). Screen is amazing and colors are both accurate and well saturated. I find I love mat display. Personnaly I find the keyboard great. The main issue I have is with the fans. They are not loud at all. BUT they are always on, which means the laptop is nevern entirely quiet. This should be easy to fix ! Also, the trackpad is probably on the better side for windows laptops, but I find it less precise than the XPS 15's. The hardware part is great. It's very smooth and confortable to use, it's clicky but tight, and you can click on most of the surface. However the cursor alwars moves a few pixels too far after I stop draging my finger. So, in short : Please update software fixes to turn off the fan with they are not necessary and improve the trackpad a bit. I've read it is possible to "hack" the Dragon Center from MSI to install it on this laptop and change fan profiles, but I was unable to launch the software. If anyone can provide some tips about this, I'd be interested.

I was not able to install dragon center either. Bought the laptop at launch, and the fans were constantly whirring. i recommend you take a look at the p65 creator-1084 over this as an alternative if you're looking for power. it has the 9750h processor though the other specs are similar: 4k screen, 32gb ram, 1tb ssd. keyboard layout and air vent setup are slightly less stupid. hugely better graphics (RTX 2060 instead of GTX 1650). in my opinion build quality is slightly superior. price recently dropped from 1899 to 1499 on amazon. i have one and it is functional most of the time. no matter which you get i recommend installing throttlestop if you are comfortable tampering with it. hopefully that's useful to someone
@hyedefinition10805 жыл бұрын
This laptop is lighter, CPU is more efficient and at least equals 9750. The trade-off is the better graphics vs lighter weight. Different people will have different conclusions. I bought the 4k screen laptop for $1450, added a 1TB SSD (1.5TB total) and a 32GB ram (40 TB total) module for ~$250.
@irlporygon-z69295 жыл бұрын
@@hyedefinition1080 i already mentioned the tradeoffs i took note of (keyboard layout, vent blowing directly onto the screen for some reason, build quality? not sure but it seems at least slightly worse on the prestige) aside from the weight. from what i've seen the cpus are by and large quite comparable and i didn't imply that would be worse, when i said power i was mostly referring to graphics. also one major, major advantage the prestige 15 has over the p65 which i didn't even remember to state is that updating the components in the laptop is vastly easier, since the motherboard in the p65 is flipped, which was a pretty stupid manufacturing design choice with effectively no benefit to the end user. in my opinion the weight difference will be rather inconsequential in a laptop bag, but that's not really my point. all i said was to just take a look at it as an alternative, as for some people it will likely be a better value.
@irlporygon-z69295 жыл бұрын
@Bubz of Steel well of course it depends on the person, but as i said, in my own opinion it's not that big of a deal. i'm sure if someone found that to be a major factor they'd take that into consideration. the only reason I brought up the p65 is just that someone else might want to know about it, i am neither recommending nor criticizing either choice as that really depends on what you want out of your laptop.
@irlporygon-z69295 жыл бұрын
@Bubz of Steel i feel like you just want to start an argument at this point. personally i got the p65 because the weight difference didn't matter to me and the price was still right in exchange for the graphics card that is literally >2x better + superior build quality + a host of other much less important reasons, and at the time i wasn't sure about the processor though from what i can tell now that isn't a huge deal. if you don't value that tradeoff over the weight and therefore disagree with the decision, that's absolutely fine, because i bought the laptop for my uses and not for yours.
@irlporygon-z69295 жыл бұрын
@Bubz of Steel i don't really have an opinion as to whether or not you or anyone else _should_ care about the p65, but _I_ don't care about the fact that you think that "no one looking to buy an ultrabook does." that may be the case or not, and i won't claim to know, but i chose put the information out there, appreciated or not. you can continue to engage with me all you like, but this discussion is going nowhere.

I am a little bit worried about the usb c connector too, some reviewers said it does not click tight and the charging head wobbles a little. I also read about the hinge problems of msi laptops in the past (even affecting the newer gs65) and quite scared of this also. I wish msi improve their build quality and charge $100-200 more that would be perfect, why i feel like they really dont care about build quality at all, many of their laptops have build quality issues. Dear Josh. I really appreciate your video but I would like to complain about my experience of using MSI. I would describe MSI in 3 words - poor quality products, tardy customer service and irresponsible action. I bought an MSI Prestige 15 on 28 September 2021 from an authorized reseller in Cambodia. After using it for 1 week, the screen started flickering, so I brought it to the store for inspection. They fixed it by changing the screen and updated software. Later on, in January 2022, the screen just suddenly fell off its frame, so I brought it to the store again. They sticked the screen back to frame but the flickering screen became more severe. This time, they said it was because of the motherboard and they asked me to keep my laptop there again for the replacement. It seems like they don’t know how to fixed it and I kept requested for changing to a new laptop for like months but they don’t want to do so Finally they agreed to swab to another Prestige 15 for me. However, they said that they need to send it back to the factory to request for a new one. So far, I haven’t received the new laptop yet. it has been like 2 months and a half (from 03 January 2022 - 15 March) since I have to undergo excruciating pain in dealing with studying and working without computer. I have been trying to reach out to the international MSI via their international customer service by sending three different emails (tickets they call). They said they will forward the issue to relevant department but so far there is no action AT ALL. It is my first time of using MSI, and I am utterly and bitterly disappointed by MSI Cambodia and MSI International for their inaction. To those who want to buy this laptop, stay away from this brand because your time and money is very precious.

I can't figure out how to get this into a proper HDR mode, there's no "play HDR games and apps" switch under windows HD Color theres only stream HDR and even that doesnt seem to actually be HDR even using edge the videos even with "HDR" showing in the settings on youtube aren't HDR in reality....anyone else notice this?

it is clearly not a gaming laptop but a content creation laptop then why there is not a full size sd card for reading photos and videos from cameras ? does not make any sense (it is not a 13" it is a big 15" chassis how could they fit a microsd but not find the extra few mm for a full size sd ?

Hi josh! i bought one prestige 15 but the ssd came in two different slots. I have 1 TB of storage but in different slots. In the box it sais that it is configured in RAID but when I enter to the BIOS this is not an option. Do you know something about that? Thanks!

In your opinion which one better for editing photo, video, 3d, lenovi y545 or msi prestige 15? Thanks
@TheGamerDiZ5 жыл бұрын
If you're editing photos and video I would go with the Prestige because the screen is perfect for the workflow. However, for any 3d rendering I would go with Lenovo because it has a better gpu. But the Prestige's gpu is no slouch, but as long as you have the patience for rendering 3d I would still go for the Prestige since it has the better screen.
@yogahanung23515 жыл бұрын
@@TheGamerDiZ so, what if you do some stuff above, with non 4k screen on, do you still choose prestige 15? Cause in my region, prestige with 4k screen is too expensive.
@TheGamerDiZ5 жыл бұрын
@@yogahanung2351 I would, the 1080p screen is still the most color accurate and brighter. If ur mainly doing the things above, and not gaming heavily. I would get the Prestige

Compared to Lenovo's keyboard, how different is this one?
@JustJoshTech4 жыл бұрын
If you are asking to compare with a ThinkPad. Thinkpad keyboards are much better
@CaptainFlips4 жыл бұрын
@@JustJoshTech I said lenovo as I've noticed that they have very similar keyboards across all of their devices. The reason why am asking is beacuase for the past few months I've been looking for laptop and I got extremely hoocked on this one but I must have mist you saying that the keyboard is problematic the last time I watched your video. Would you say that it's something you can get used to as I can't really test it out. Btw I hate Apple keys.

Sory but, dont you think fan out on the wrong side because warm air hit the screen and its very ridiculus

Which thin and light gaming laptop has the best battery life?
@JustJoshTech5 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately none. At best 4 to 6 hours if you have a high end card like 1660 ti and up. Honestly best balance of battery life and gaming is probably Surface Book 2 still. That has a gtx 1060 and great battery life
